I have had my Motorola W377 for around 3 years now & have had excellent service from it, It has a lovely clear screen, & if its a very simple & easy to use phone you are after, choose this one.

I have highly recommended this to friends, & they all love it. Thank you Motorola.

Besides all the problems mentioned below, I recently encountered a problem which seems to be a bug. This week I missed a call. When I looked in the missed calls log I noticed that the date was January 18, 2000 (!) This phone is absolutely rubbish. I cannot understand that a company like Motorola actually sells this rubbish. I'll never buy a Motorola ever again.

I barely use my phone & it's often just left switched off. But I needed it today. No battery power. Charged it till it said it was battery full but it's still not working. Bit annoyed that given the fact I haven't used it that much it's broken down now. It's a nice design, the functions suited me alright. I just wish it has a tech manual & was still working :- (.

This mobile is very slow in texting & changes the words unbelievably. The camera is poor & the memory is poor too. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone except those who are looking for a temporary phone. I bought it 2 months ago & I am already planning getting a Samsung J700. I would have expected more from Motorola.

It does what I want it to do, & for the price I got it & how much I use it, it does the job quite well. However I am sure if I texted more I would get very annoyed at its speed. I sometimes have to wait a few seconds for it to catch up with my texting speed. Another thing that bothers me is that I can delete any of the built in pictures, of which are taking up valuable space that I'd much rather use for other things like games, which by the way can't be added from a computer. I've tried downloading Java files for it, but they don't understand it. It does the job of a phone & texter, but any more usage that you would want from a phone I'd pay a bit more.

ABSOLUTE RUBBISH. The only thing going for it is the low price!

Texting is a slow, laborious trial & messaging is no better. The camera is so below average as not to be worth mentioning & unbelievably you can't even download images
to your PC!

Battery life is second rate bordering on ridiculous so I only use this as an emergency backup now, even then I have to ensure its constantly charged.

Finally the menus are simple. Simple. Simple, offering very little extra.

My rating for this phone. 2 out of 10 (Works & is cheap!)

I got it as I had a Motorola V3 which I really liked until the screen kept switching off. Only need it to take calls & occasional text messages so didn't want to pay the earth for a new phone & specs appear quite reasonable. After easy V3 texting is a pain & it is too easy to touch the wrong button. Battery life is virtually nil, fully charged at 9am then phone switched itself off, battery totally flat, at 4pm, only managed one short call & a couple of texts! Feel really letdown.

Putting in 8MB of storage is just taunting, it should have a microSD slot, but the FM radio is sweet. I've yet to see how the battery performs over longer periods.

It knows pretty much everything I need it to, although the menus are a bit clumsy.

My biggest gripe is that it's not supported by Motorola Phone Tools (5.17d), & has no driver for MS ActiveSync to talk to, meaning no phone book transfer.

Full Marks from me in ALL departments, OK, the texting is the quickest in the world, but I am OK with that, wasn't really worried about a megapixel camera, I am not out to impress anybody, the style of the phone is great, it's my first flip phone, the radio is AWESOME with a great clarity, & being Digital it shows you the station you have tuned into as well as scrolling text of info along the bottom, which I was impressed with, ten years ago this phone would have cost hundreds of pounds, some people have come to expect too much from phones, I only need my phone to text & call & receive, I am not too worried about video cameras, multi megapixel cameras, this phone delivers what I Require, I am VERY pleased with it, only had it less than a week, but, would recommend it to anybody. Also its TRI BAND so I can text my family in the various countries they live, including Canada, Jamaica, Holland, America. If you require to impress your mates then get a contract phone, if like me you just want a no hassle phone that delivers great quality, then the Motorola W277 is the one to buy.

This is a great phone when it works. I've had the phone for 8 months & in the last 4 it has started switching itself off & crashing out. It is very frustrating when you have to be on call, I check the phone just in case I've missed something & it has switched itself off. Switching back on again takes some doing, the battery is fine, the phone is fine, there must be a bad connection somewhere. My previous phone was also a Motorola & it started doing the same thing after a year or so. I can't afford to miss calls so I am going back to a more reliable Nokia.

The phone is rubbish. I had a V325 CDMA phone in the US (which was much better but not the best phone I've ever had) so I got a V377 with O2 here. But this is an extremely cut rate phone.

- Size & weight are good as is the surface texture. It feels good in my hand.
- the manual is basic & doesn't show you how to customize anything.
- the USB is nice because I can connect my computer to the files on the phone without any driver software as I'd need if I used the USB. I was able to set it up fairly easily & put on a custom ringtone. Unfortunately it isn't documented in the instructions. Go to the (poor) Motorola website to find out how.
- When retrieving a number from the phonebook you have to scroll thru all the numbers to get to the contact you want rather than entering the person's name.
- I haven't been able to find any way to get my numbers off my old phone onto this one as you can't upload numbers to the phone thru the Bluetooth link & the phone isn't compatible with Motorola phone tools which I could use to get the numbers off my old phone. I guess they didn't think about users switching from a CDMA phone to a GSM phone but they should since Motorola is an American company & they still use CDMA over there.
- There is no missed calls log.
- the FM radio is nice.
- the battery life is excellent when listening to the radio but I haven't made any long calls on it because of the usurious rates O2 charges.
- Doesn't have voice recognition which I'd much rather have than mobile Internet which I'll never use anyhow.
- Motorola's user interface is terrible. This is no change from the previous ones I've owned. The old Samsung I had years ago had a much better interface.

A couple of little niggles. Bought it when my Samsung E600 finally gave up the ghost, because I love the funky design & I am not interested in using my phone for an MP3 player, TV, video recorder etc, just want to text & call with the occasional foray onto the web. HATE the way Motorola predictive text works. Samsung was much quicker. As somebody already said, it takes the phone ages to catch up & by then you've got to reverse to correct your mistake. Also would have preferred the clock to display when the phone is closed, & some little light or something to prove to you it's switched on. The keys are small, but the only problem I have had is that when I go to press the left hand soft key I keep hitting the Web access button & then suddenly find myself connecting to the net. However, I only really use my phone for calling & texting, so it is fine & I REALLY love its appearance. I've got the pink one which I think is really cool.

I wasn't looking for bells & whistles phone or a tiny phone or a clever phone. All I wanted was a good basic device mainly for texting & the odd voice call. My Motorola V220 had seen 5 years excellent service but was starting to play up so I went for the nearest modern equivalent I could find & chose the W377, BIG MISTAKE. This Moto phone is an enormous step backwards as far as I am concerned. The keyboard is totally useless for normal sized fingers & I am forever hitting the wrong keys or two keys or no keys & the arrow key ring needs a sharp pencil to use unless you have elegant fingernails. The text response is painfully slow & I am often two words ahead of the screen which is a nuisance if you've hit a wrong key & need to then go back & use the awful arrow ring to correct. Compared to the V220 this phone is slow & cumbersome, texting has become a nightmare & I am taking the phone back to try to exchange for a better designed unit more like the V220. This time I'll try the keypad & make certain my digits will operate it & make sure the text I start will be finished the same day.

As a user of previous Motorola I find the software on this phone to be terrible. They have changed the function of the centre button (one in middle of directional arrows) so that it is not longer the OK button, but now is a secondary button. This is just awful, & not same as other phones from Motorola.

The main menu is not mapped to keys, so need to move the directional arrow to each. After taking a photo you must store it from a menu, requires three clicks & a scroll to take photo & to save it. This type of poor interface design is continued throughout the phone.

Overall I would not recommend this phone for anyone. The design of the case is nice, but the terrible user interface makes it impossible to use.

Great for first few months, but then battery needed to be charged every few days & I only use the phone for emergencies. It has now started not holding charge & crashes as soon as it's charged.

Maybe cheap, but my other cheap phone had more features & a longer battery life. On my way to buy a replacement.

I bought this phone recently as a straight forward basic back up phone. I have the silver & grey version which looks very smart. I particularly like the standby & talk time of about 8 hours. The games selection are quite good, especially the Sudoku. As far as the USB connection goes, I would have hoped to have been able to add contacts directly to the phone via my PC to save time & effort, unfortunately good. If you need more specs or performance, well just spend five times as much.

Hi, To add pictures to your phone from PC you need to plug the PC lead into USB lead & attach to charger point on phone. Your phone should come up with connect phone as storage device press yes. If your mass storage does not pop up then go to my computer & double click on MS DEVICE open what you want to add I.e. Pictures sounds & just drag whatever you want into the blank space. When done & this is really important go to your tool bar & click on the little green arrow button, should say safely remove hardware & click on this & hay presto your song & pictures will be in the additional storage device. Be warned though it will only hold 2 songs maximum at a push! Hope this Helps.

No instructions so I am sure I am not using it to capacity. The main problem is trying to connect the phone to the PC. Despite purchasing a phone tools CD (total waste) I have spent hours contacting T mobile, scouring websites & communicating with Motorola to try & sort this problem. All to no avail so for me it has been a total waste of time & money.

Bought this as a basic phone for my mum, which is great.

Having spent some time disabling options & setting up all number etc it can be easy to use, Mum can answer calls, close calls etc just by opening the flip top, one number dial those (few) numbers she needs etc.

HOWEVER, getting to this point was a nightmare! No instructions worth looking at, even the latest phone tools from Motorola doesn't even connect to the phone, just appalling! Hence the usability of 20%.

The instructions are just totally off target one does not need detailed instructions with a large picture to say press the green button to make & answer a call, yet no instructions at all on how to connect to a PC or single key dialling!

HOW to SET UP SINGLE NUMBER DIALING (It took some time, but here's how to do it).

- Set numbers up in contacts & using the Speed No set to say 2, ALSO Store to as say Phone. Most of us did this but it didn't work so here's the trick.

- In settings, Initial set up there is an option for 1 touch dial, this option must be set to where the numbers are stored, in this case the example in 1 above sets it to quick dial number 2 in the phone, so this MUST be set to phone!

That's it! Simple, but it takes some finding.

Now can someone tell me how to download a picture of Mum's cat from the PC to the phone?

In reply to question about loading songs I have found it hasn't got big memory so for instance if took a few photos you will find less space for songs. Mine will allow about 2 medium size MP3 songs or 3 short ones providing only got about 3 photos on it which is disappointing. I don't like the fact it won't accept WMA files either. It would be better with memory card slot or much bigger memory as I would love to load more songs onto it. If anybody else has had same problem & figured it out, I'd love to know! I have previously left a review for it when I couldn't figure the Bluetooth out, which glad to say I now have!

Hi John, I've just bought one too, & quite agree about the instructions being rubbish! It is really poor that there is no additional help on the Motorola website. I have reached the conclusion that there is no speed dial (except for press & hold 1 for voice mail). What there seems to be instead is a Speed No, each of your entries in the contacts list seems to get allocated a number, you then type the number followed by hash, & that brings up the entry.

Here's a couple of other things I've found out by trial & error in case it helps others, the key thing to find is the Personalise menu (from the main menu), choose Home Screen, Home Keys, this enable you to tailor what you can access directly from the front screen using the arrows & buttons. This enabled me to put the Radio on one of the top buttons for easy access (the radio feature is great, I have to say).

Another good one, when you are in Contacts, press the centre button to bring up a control menu, then Setup, View & you can then choose to have each entry appear only once (rather than once with home number, once with the mobile number, again with the work number, etc, which seemed ridiculous when I first started using the phone). For texting, the 1 key seems to remember what punctuation you used recently, so it is a quick way to add apostrophes. The zero key changes between upper & lower case, the hash key changes between predictive text & normal entry.

Anyway, once I'd worked out the above, I've grown to like the phone much more! One gripe which I haven't been able to work out, there doesn't seem to be a way of adding words to the dictionary for predictive text. Has anyone worked that one out? !

This phone is lovely to hold, clear buttons which are very hard to get now days, well spread which helps when texting.

This is by no means a top of the range phone but let's be honest you don't need much on a phone just the capability to phone & text, a little disappointed with the memory as I always like to add my own ring tones & theme, & be able to change the wallpaper to something a little more interesting, although this is possible the phone can only hold so much data. Other than that if all you need is a stylish phone to text & call your friends then this is an ideal phone & I would recommend this phone to anyone. I love it.

One other thing, the easy start booklet is very limited with information, luckily for me I owned a RAZR before so I pretty much knew how to use this phone before I brought it as all the features are pretty much the same, Motorola need to add a manual for new users, to make this phone more user friendly.

JS, just press the 1 key wherever you want an apostrophe, e.g. For can't key in can1t. I am old fashioned too! :-)

I've had this phone nearly 2 months & I love it. Battery life is great, I am an average user & I can get 5 days out of it. My Samsung D600 had to be charged every 3 days with the same usage. Lack of video & flashy camera doesn't bother me, but the 2 or 3 photos I've taken are surprisingly good quality. Reception is great even in the local blackspots & call quality is excellent, I often have to turn the volume down during calls. Used the loudspeaker in the car & can hear & be heard OK. The icon display is very useful & was the main reason I got this phone. I was sick of having to press a key to see if I'd missed anything! I also think the phone is good looking (got the grey/silver version) & a few friends have said it looks pricier than it is.

Only bad point would be the very basic instruction leaflet. Not great for anyone who's not used to mobiles & doesn't have access to the Internet to learn about their phone.

Favourite features, FM radio (though you need ears like a giant to use the free headphones) & a full version of Tetris. If any one finds the battery is letting them down DO NOT RETURN TO STORE!

- Remove battery & SIM card.

A good value phone for the money. Well designed, nice feel, & easy to operate with keys that are large enough to press without too many misfires. Clear audio & easy to adjust external volume keys. The USB facility is a definite plus downloading & uploading is quick & hassle free.

On the downside, the screen could be a little larger, plenty of room if the Motorola logo was moved elsewhere. FM radio? A more powerful camera would have been better. I am not a fan of predictive text & was disappointed to see that, unlike the V235, the ordinary tap mode does not auto complete frequently used words.

The quick start manual was not much use, but I have found that most of the phone's features are similar to the W375 & there is a more comprehensive manual for that.

Overall verdict, Very good.

Bought on Virgin Network for £39.99 including a Motorola Bluetooth Headset H350. I too received an unwanted SIM joining pack so I am waiting for a jiffy bag to return the SIM for a £10 refund. I am wondering if they send these out on purpose in the hope you may pass them on to another potential subscriber! Great stylish phone, if only I could work out how everything works. I've contacted Motorola & Virgin & Motorola tell me they have not produced a user manual for this phone. They suggest taking a look online at the instructions for the W375 which they say is similar, pathetic! What would you do if didn't have easy Internet access? So I can only give 60% for usability, I just don't know how some features work! The Getting Started Leaflet provided is inadequate. I am sure in time I shall be very satisfied with this phone but I am not impressed with the lack of detailed information..

I love the phone, but do have one problem, which is when I connect to my PC & try to download a photo to the phone, it just sends it back to the PC. I have phoned Virgin, who I bought it from & Motorola. I have a job reference number & am waiting for someone to come back to me to see what the problem is. Hope someone can help.

Absolutely splendid phone.

Bought from Virgin mobile for £39.99, but they included a sim card (unasked for) so that's £10 refund; & there was a £10 air time voucher in the box, so that brings the phone down to an amazing £19.99!

A couple of months ago I upgraded from an old Motorola to the Samsung J600. What a mistake! Nasty stroking keys, cheap & flimsy feel.

With the W377, I feel like I've come home! Yes, I know that sounds cheesy.

Bought this phone for £25 yes £25 including a FREE Bluetooth device. Not that I'll be wearing that much, who wants to walk around looking like that!

Anyway, I wanted a PHONE to make PHONE CALLS on with a Voicemail, & that's exactly what I've got. Job done.

There seems, however, to be some moaners out there. If you want a decent camera, buy a digital camera. If you want an MP3 player, buy one or an iPod.

& as for texting, oh please! Spare me the thumb twiddler's wasting their lives away. They've got a PHONE in their hands, USE IT!

Stop moaning folks, this is a neat phone at a great price. Not bad looking either, thanks Motorola. It'll do for me.
