By the way one of the comments said no speakerphone but there is one buddy. Just fiddle around menu a bit. THIS IS TOLD BY THE MANUFACTURE. IF you OR ANYBODY KNOWS HOW TO USE SPEAKERS WHILE CONVERSATION please DO LET KNOW OTHERS.

The W220 is the worst phone I have ever had! It doesn't even have Bluetooth, a camera or a video recorder! That's why I am going to get a new one, the Samsung W900i, that has all the features I need.

I got this phone about 6 months ago & I am already bored with it. It has almost no memory, it can't even hold one photo!
The overall design is OK & it is very easy to use. 6 out of 10.

Hi, I bought this phone to replace my Nokia 3310. It's worth for its FM effects. It is a best phone for starters & greatest disadvantage is you have to open the flip every time & you can receive but not send picture messages & ringtones.
It is a nice phone for the money paid.

I give this mobile phone 100% as a budget mobile phone. If you want more, then look elsewhere. It has all of the basic phone features & texting.
I was buying this phone for my Dad (77) & my Gran (102). I wanted a basic phone, with a long battery life, that my Dad could use in an emergency. The Motorola W220 is the best I've found for their needs.
For occasional & most important, emergency use, the long battery charge & lack of power draining features are ideal. Also, the Pay as you Go Virgin deal means that £20 put on the phone today, will still be there when they need it. &, finally, the clamshell design will prevent the old folks from accidentally dialling the emergency services.
To be honest, I wish someone would produce an even more Basic Phone, but until then, I commend the Motorola W220 for what it is. Well done Motorola!

I've been using this phone since September 07. W220 is a cute phone. Cheap & with FM radio forms a nice buddy. It also has a basic browser. You can download wallpapers & polyphonic tones.
Best part of the mobile is its led based call & sms indicators. You don't need to go to the phone. Different coloured blinking light tells you that you have a missed call or sms even from a distance.
Its stereo FM radio app, gallery, the basic menus, shortcuts & ability to change wallpaper layout are good points.
But its messaging service is odd. Unlike basic Nokia's you don't have separate folders, draft folder, proper delivery reports & messages status.
Its speaker phone is restricted only to radio & isn't loud enough. You cannot change FM channels through earphones. Need to open the flap each time you change channels. More over presets limited to only 9 channels.
Strangely one can download.amr tones but can't be set as tones, one can listen to it though in the multimedia section. Regarding changing time, it can be done from initial setup option.
Apart from these cons, the phone is easy to use, plays the FM stereo radio best in its class, refreshing change from the same Nokia menu structure, display more customisable than similar Nokia's.
Size & looks are the coolest aspects. Fits in jeans pockets easily & it's reflecting black surface looks sleek.
Just a more functional sms software, speaker phone, ability to change FM channels through earphones would have made this perfect.

Reading some of the previous reviews I was absolutely dreading my W220 arriving this week but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! I think for the cost of this phone you get a very good bargain! I actually prefer it to the RAZR which I found a bit of a naff. The plastic it is made of isn't what I would call cheap, I've had a few phones this last year which cost up to 4 times more than the W220 which were made of much cheaper looking plastic. It doesn't have a camera or an MP3 player but then so what, it's a phone! I've downloaded about ten nice wallpapers through the WAP facility & some funky ringtones too! I recommend this phone for anyone who doesn't want all singing all dancing, it's a better bargain than a lot of the cheap end Nokia or Sony's at the moment!

Got this phone a month or two back to replace my beloved Nokia 3310! Didn't want Bluetooth or a camera, just a phone I could make calls on & send texts with. It does the first fine but as I can't seem to turn off the morons predictive text feature (I have followed the advice on here about the hash key & it doesn't work) so it's going in the bin now.
An instruction book that was more than one side of an A4 sheet might have been nice. This is the second Motorola I've owned & this is as rubbish as the other one. Looks great, absolutely awful to use.

This is a great phone it was cheap if you just want a phone it does exactly that can't believe all these people who say no MP3 no camera no video capture didn't they read about it before they bought it I knew they wasn't on this phone. There is one thing the write up says a speaker phone is there anyone who knows how to get to it I have gone through every possible menu & still can't get it. I have a Motorola already & it just comes up as soon as you make a call. If anyone has found it could you please explain how to get to it.

I have had this little man for about one year now. He still has a lovely face, albeit no body. He has served me well, functional, unassuming, polite without boastfulness. He is not a businessman, but prefers the quiet indoors, reading a book or cooking. Lately I have been a little bored of his presence, & thinking of a new updated model called KRZR K1. He's younger, fitter & has an integrated camera feature unlike any other. I am concerned though I find this new guy very attractive, but will he work well long term? I guess time will tell.

I have been using this phone for the last 4 months as a replacement for a V3 I lost last May. It was only a temporary solution. A fair one, but it has some cons.
1. No outside screen you can't see who is calling so forget the 'flip answers the call' function.
2. No 'contacts' memory management I.e. Cannot store many numbers under one name, it just stores numbers & names the old way.
3. Scratchable, very (lots of rubber & low-cost plastic).
It has one major advantage: great radio performance & another one: it is cheap. Design wise it is good, but a bit archaic.
Buy it if it is offered for less than 30 Euro's. (I was given mine for free).

Good little phone. Does what it says on the tin. But here a strange thing (or is it? ): I bought one of these some months ago from Wilkinson's for £29.99 on Orange Pay/Go for my partner, but he doesn't use it anymore. As an experiment, I put my O2 Pay/Go SIM in it. & it worked! My old Nokia was beginning to feel the strain, so the Motorola W220 is perfect for my needs, at no cost, really.

There is design defect in the W220 model. If the phone is kept on the back, where the incoming ringtone speaker is fixed, then hear a very feeble incoming ringtone but only see the green light flicking. The matter becomes worse when the phone is kept on a pillow or the bed mattress or a sofa set cushion. You cannot hear any ring. We are required to keep the phone on the upside down so as to hear the ring tone, but in this case we do not see the green flicking light. This is a very serious design defect & I feel that I have made a silly mistake in buying a Motorola W220 hand set, instead of buying a Nokia set.
Can the Motorola Company do something to solve this basic design defect?

I think the phone is okay, but it's quite out of date. The screen is small & could do much more if Motorola tried. Another thing I don't like about the design is that it looks like it would snap if you poked it. & the battery cover slides off all the time.
They should have an exterior screen too instead of the coloured logos because they are quite pathetic.
It was very easy to use & get used to though.
All in all it's a good phone but I wouldn't get it again.

Recently I was searching for a folding, slim, decent, small in size, long talk time mobile phone for everywhere use; not many features but essentials. Motorola W220 is that phone. At a market in Dhaka among hundreds of cell phones, I chose it without any delay. The phone I was looking for. I have the black one.
- Soft Rubbery touch feeling.
- Small, slim folding mobile phone.
- 600 phone book entry.
- 6 hours talk time (yet to check but not bad.
- Good battery life.
- Affordable price with essential features. Not too many features which we do not use in busy daily life.
- Many features but low price.
- Flash colored signals (call, text & miss calls).
At a glance, a nice affordable decent phone. Which I was looking for. Thanks Motorola.

I prefer my Motorola V200. I am not a features person but I miss having a camera, speakerphone & being able to personalise calls with ringtones/pictures. The MMS facility doesn't work & I can't download pics, read MMS or ringtones although the WAP seems to work fine. I don't like the fact that text message alerts are limited to 5 sounds which aren't fantastic & it comes with a small selection of unimaginative ringtones. It's a very basic phone & perfect as a short term replacement or for someone who doesn't want anything fancy.

Tips to share: If you want to stop the radio, simple unplug the earpiece & it will return phone to standby mode.

Selma, RE Time settings.
You could take out your sim wait for a minute & put it back in again. Once you switch on it will ask you to confirm/alter time setting, or.
Go to menu, settings, Initial Setup Time & Date, change time or change date. If you can't see Change time or change that, it means you have a tick on Auto Adjustments.
High-resolution as above. Hope that helps?

It's OK, love the design, great looking etc
However, I managed to start & get on the wap for Orange, & it is terrible, worse than my last, 3 year old Orange phone.
Can anyone tell me if I have done something wrong as the wap has no colour at all like my old one & limited links. The description also said games & ringtones could be downloaded which so far seems untrue in my case. When I try it just goes off on a tandem. I also do not seem to be able to buy wap extras.
If you want a basic phone for calls, texts & the added extra of a radio this is for you but for anything else I would look elsewhere.

Like many, many others I had problems with MMS pictures & WAP access but eventually I worked it out. All I had to do was log on to the hellomoto web, then 'operator settings' & then click on MMS &/or WAP & the settings are immediately sent to your phone & your ready to go!

This is a great phone except for one thing - the predictive text is really slow. If you do a lot of texting & have become pretty fast at it then you will have to slow right down in order to type a message successfully into this phone - it just won't keep up otherwise. The non-predictive texting is fine but it's a disappointment that the predictive texting just doesn't cut it, as writing a message has now become a much longer & more tedious business. Apart from that problem, it's a simple, user-friendly, cool phone with a nice sleek look & feel to it - I would recommend it to anyone (providing they didn't want to do too much texting! ).

Motorola got it right with the W220. I got this phone after I got heaps of money for my birthday: it cost $100, & is with Telstra Prepaid.
This phone is designed pretty good. Most people who see it mistake it for a RAZR at first. The RAZR is of course I classic design, except it is sooo wide. The W220 is not wide.
I've dropped it about 20 times (once while the lid was open & facing the floor! ), & it has never taken damage. When the lid was open, it shut itself before hitting the floor. I don't know whether that's luck or good design.
It doesn't have many features compared to other mobiles. The prepaid phones on sale in Australia are all 2G, so it's an average phone for this category. I think Motorola could have done themselves a favour by putting Bluetooth & a camera in.
The W220 is way easy to use! Other people complain that Motorola's are difficult to use for people who haven't owned them before. That isn't true though. Just read the manual for about 5 minutes & you'll be fine.
Overall a pretty good phone.

I find the phone very stylish, I own the all black one which is very good as I love black LOL. The only unfortunately daunting if you don't know what you're doing. To finalize the phone is your basic what it says on the tin is what you get & what it does & for the price you can't go wrong really.

This is a very sleek little phone, it does what it says on the box & looks cool. £30 ! Very good price. Did have a bit of a problem getting the settings to make the MMS/Internet work. Looked all over the Internet & went back to the shop with no joy. It took 4 phone calls to customer services Vodafone 191, 3 attempts to send the settings before they arrived! When they did, I saved them & it worked 100%. Vodafone did refund the cost of the calls (25p flat rate), so I am happy.
Hope this info saves time for anyone with the same problem. Rock-&-roll.

@Brite: It doesn't have loud speaker, I have seen some reviews saying it has. But it doesn't.

It's an excellent phone for the price, stylish, sleek, does all that you need it to & no more, thank goodness! I was reticent about changing from Nokia's (had several over the years) but it hasn't been difficult to get used to & I have managed to figure out how to get WAP access at last! As others have said, O2 couldn't help because the model is so new, but I've just logged on to the Motorola website & clicked on 'operator settings'. A few clicks later & WAP is working no problem.
Hope that someone else finds this useful.

Mike: Yes you are right, phone looks great, but it is a bit slow. You can get some more performance out of it when typing sms's if you turn off word completion.

Both myself & my husband have the w220, we just wanted basic phones, & that's what we got. We can't fault them. For the price - £40 inc £10 airtime what do you expect! No good moaning that they don't have cameras, Bluetooth etc at that price! All in all they are fantastic, & look really good too.

Is there a hands-free speakerphone for this model? Some say there is & some say not.

Like many others before me, all I want is a phone that phones (& the occasional SMS) PERFECT! I do sometimes miss an external screen (for clock), & I haven't yet figured out how to set the menu to list rather than icons but that's the only gripes so far.
Looks sleek & stylish, feels expensive, build quality is excellent & the new keypad beats the awful Motorola foil ones hands down. Battery life is excellent (more than a week if I switch off at night). If you're after a phone, this is it!

A Most Beautiful little phone for the person who simply just wants a phone to use for calls & text messages. Though it doesn't have Bluetooth the style & simplicity make up for this.
Love it so much. 10/10 from me.

Okay guys, I know a lot of you here have fallen head over heels in love with this phone but I have a few grievances.
I bought this sleek looking phone from O2 a couple of months ago, & the good news is they knocked £10 off the price for me, so I got it for £35! Good so far.
Then I started using it regularly.
Predictive text on this phone is absolutely useless. It doesn't tend to remember words as a Nokia would, & the sensitivity of the keys is not good. It takes I'd say around 60-70% longer to tap in a text message than on any other phone I've used.
In fact the entire phone is a very very slow machine, something I'd put down to the low sensitivity of the keys.
The battery life is ridiculously low - mine has to sit on charge roughly every other day - & I don't use it an awful lot.
But probably the worst problem with this phone is this: Should you drop it onto a table it somehow dislodges the battery & shuts itself off. A lot of us have a habit of dropping our mobiles onto pub tables or bunging it in our bags etc. If you do this, it will turn itself off & render itself practically useless until you turn it back on again. Also when in the middle of a text message, if the screensaver comes on, it wipes the message completely away. Annoying if you have to leave the message to do something else.
If you want a cheap mobile because you are stuck, or because you want your phone to look like a prop out of knightrider, get this right now.
If you want it for regular use, forget it.

Bought this phone a couple of weeks ago & love it. I didn't want anything fancy nor a camera etc & this phone fits the bill. Not been very technical can anyone tell me how to get predictive text back? (Where the book sign & letter A come at the top when texting) I had it on originally & it was brilliant but by messing about I've lost it. Despite following the instructions I can't seem to get it back!

Brilliant phone. Very neat & clean. I have switched from slvr L7, didn't like it looked like a driven frog, this one is smaller (not thinner) & better.
No extra features like MP3 player, camera etc. (which I didn't use at all in L7), so it has everything a good phone should have.

I HAVE HAD MANY PHONES OVER the YEARS, BUT MUST SAY THIS IS ONE OF the BEST PHONES I HAVE EVER HAD. UP TO NOW I HAVE USED Nokia'S BUT FEEL Motorola HAVE WALKED ALL OVER THEM IN RECENT YEARS. I JUST LOVE the FINISH ON THIS PHONE (ALL BLACK) & the THREE ICONS THAT LIGHT UP ON the PHONE, DO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A TOP OF the RANGE MODEL. BATTERY LIFE IS GREAT, SIGNAL GREAT & RADIO FIRST CLASS. WHEN MY FRIENDS SEE THIS PHONE THEY ALL WANT TO HAVE A LOOK AT IT. THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED WITH the Nokia'S. A FEW OF THEM HAVE GONE OUT & BOUGHT ONE. I GOT THIS PHONE FOR £29.99 WITH £5 OF CREDIT ON Orange. IT HAS NO CAMERA, OR Bluetooth, & IS ONLY DUAL BAND, BUT I KNEW ALL THIS BEFORE BUYING. ALTHOUGH IT DOES NOT SAY IN the MANUAL, the HEADPHONES FOR RADIO CAN BE USED FOR hands-free. IT HAS A MIC & CONTROL BUTTON ON the LEAD. ALL IN ALL A GREAT BUY. LOVE IT.
