Motorola V550 Review

The Motorola V550 is a fun & fashionable mobile phone which is sold on a Vodaphone network only. The phone comes in a very appealing blue & silver coloured casing & with a clamshell opening mechanism. The V550 looks similar in design to the Motorola V600 & the Motorola V545 which are all highly desirable & compact clamshell mobile phones. The phone comes with 5 Mbytes of internal memory which allows the user to store their precious photos & video clips. The overall size of the Motorola V550 is 89 x 49 x 25.3 mm & it weighs 123 grams which provides a good feeling & solid handset.

The V550 comes with dual screen so that the user can have the pleasure of viewing the time & date without opening the Motorola V550. The external screen shows two lines of text & has a very effective blue backlight which compliments the blue coloured casing. The internal screen provides the user with a 65k colour screen with a screen resolution of 176 x 220 pixels.

The phone comes with an integrated VGA camera feature which has a 4 x digital zoom to ensure a clear & focused photo is captured. The user can record video footage & playback video on their Motorola V550 very easily. The user can enjoy downloading video, watching video clips & news or sporting highlights. The phone comes with a picture identification feature which allows the user to add a picture to each contact in their phone book. The user can have much fun with the picture selection & even select silly photos to go against their friends or family.

The phone comes to life when it rings with the MP3, polyphonic & monophonic ringtones. The user can use the built in Motomixer™ remixable MIDI ringer software to create a sound of their very own. The phone comes with voice activated dialling & a handsfree speaker which allows the user to have a conversation over the loud speaker rather than holding the phone to their ear.

The Motorola V550 comes with messaging services which include text messaging (SMS), multimedia messaging (MMS), instant messaging & email. The multimedia messaging allows the user to send a text message complete with a picture or photo & with sound. The user can send & receive multimedia messages to any other MMS compatible mobile phone user. The user can send Vodaphone postcards to their friends & family to show everyone what a great time they are having & what they are doing.

The pre loaded games on the V550 include wakeboarding™ & golf master™ games which are highly playable & fun games. The user may choose to download other games of the choice which is easy to do.

The phone comes with good connectivity which includes Bluetooth® wireless technology & CE Bus connection. The user can connect wirelessly to other Bluetooth® compatible devices which includes a Bluetooth® headset, PC & laptop. I have had this phone for 6 years now. I know I need a new phone, which I am getting on Saturday (I don't know which phone to get! Ahh).

People have given this phone such bad reviews I love my phone. I admit I had to get it serviced once because the video camera wasn't working but when I got it back the voice recorder did not work & hasn't since.

The battery life is great it lasts about a week maybe more?

I know NOBODY rates this phone since there not making them anymore but I need help I don't know what Sony Ericsson to get for my bday! HELP!

P.s I love this phone.

Bought the V550 about two years ago (call me old fashioned but remember the days when things used to work longer than a couple of years! ). Whatever you do, don't try & use another Motorola charger which appears to be compatible, (from a phone the next model up) to charge it. A steady demise will occur. I had been used to Nokia, where this doesn't seem to be a problem. With Motorola, apparently the chargers are model specific? the phone was damaged & wouldn't charge consistently afterwards.

Also, over the last week I have noticed a volume issue. Can't hear people when they call (& yes, I've checked the volume levels & settings! ). Bluetooth also not great, since new. All in all, the phone was good for a short period, but don't buy one second hand, I would say.

I've had it for two years now & it's been fine, a few minor setbacks as the volume adjust button no longer works & the 2 key is now quite faulty as I have to press it harder. But all in all it has lasted me well & I am getting a new fone soon. A good, reliable phone!

If it's a choice between this phone & a tin can TAKE THE CAN. My wife had 3 brand new handsets & one handset was at workshop twice all in the space of 18 months. It has all the appeal of a nice phone & some nice features but beware of gremlins, a missed call & no-one rang, changing speaker volume, turning itself off & poor microphone pickup. Enjoy the tin can without the hassle!!!

This is a good phone for the price, & it is easy to use, but with all the Motorola phones the Bluetooth is not that good! I think Motorola would be perfect if their Bluetooth was stronger.

I have had the Motorola V550 for almost a year now & it is cracking phone. A really compact & reliable phone & it's easy to operate. I don't use my phone every day & don't use all of the features but I am very happy with most the features I use on this phone.

Battery life is not up to much & I gave my V550 to my younger sister. She is happy with it & loves the camera & ringtones. Not my ideal phone but it suits a 13 year old girl.

I had the Motorola V550 before I got the Motorola PEBL but that is another review. The V550 was a low priced phone that served a purpose but it was not one of my best buys. The battery ran out very quickly, the sound quality was poor, the camera was blurred, but for the price what did I expect? It was a good budget phone & hard wearing, never gave up on me.
