Motorola V220 Review

The Motorola V220 comes in a very sleek silver casing & this phone has a perfectly smooth, sophisticated feel to it. The V220 is a feature filled middle of the market mobile phone. The design & styling of the V220 are very close to the Motorola V547. The V220 includes a high quality integrated digital camera complete with 4 x digital zoom. The built in camera is very simple to use & brings the user much fun. The high colour screen makes each & ever photo extremely clear & brings a totally fresh feel to each snap.

The picture phone book feature allows the user to allocate a photo for each caller in the phone book. Every time the V220 has an incoming call a photo of the caller will be displayed on the screen for the user to see who is calling in photo format instead of displaying a telephone number. The V220 comes with some excellent embedded games which include Hungry Fish®, OptItOut® & Photo Editor®.

Motorola V220 Mobile Phone Open View
Motorola V220 Mobile Phone Side View

The Motorola V220 comes complete with polyphonic ringtones, MP3 ringtones & has space on the phones memory for the user to download many more ringtones from the Internet. The MOTOMIXER™ is a piece of remixable MIDI ringer software which comes included with the V220.

The user has the flexibility to add the FM stereo radio headset which is an optional extra. The V220 also includes a mobile phone tools software which allows the user to communicate & keep themselves totally organised.

Have had BOTH the sliver & Black versions PERFECT for a second phones, I LEAVE the expensive one at home that's what I do its basic & brilliant just what's needed when seeing mates in pubs & clubs while the more expensive mobiles safe indoors. Mum loves hers it's for making calls or texting absolutely perfect if car breaks down it's therein glove compartment. The only thing I've had to do is get new batteries nothing else.

Remember the camera on this phone was new so was digital cameras back then, so give this mobile a break the V50 was before this one that to was TRI BAND was so basic BUT worked & yes I still have that to in mint condition boxed & it still works :).

To be honest, this isn't a very good phone. Its camera isn't very good. I think the layout is pretty good.

This phone is great for a first phone or for someone that can't use most phones & likes to have the basic ones (like my Dad!) If you want an easy phone to use then this is the one for you!

This is a really cool phone, it doesn't look too modern or anything & the features are really rubbish. I have had mine for YEARS & it hasn't broken or failed me once, even after being dropped on the ground, rattled around in my pockets & it still didn't break when I threw it against a tree to see if it would break, I did that because I was bored of it & I was getting a new one. It is very reliable & I am going to miss it when I get my new phone. I think it would be great for a first time phone as it doesn't have many good features & the camera is rubbish! I love this phone & would definitely recommend it.

I have had this phone for about 2 years now & it's not doing badly. A great phone if you want the basics. Texting & phoning but let's face it, it doesn't do much else. The camera isn't very good. No megapixels & after the first 6 months it went downhill. However, I do love the design of this phone & personally, I think black is the best. It's really easy to use & is quite small so pocket friendly.

I would definitely recommend this phone if you're buying it as a first phone, but if you want one with some more hi tech features e.g. Bluetooth, 3G messaging etc. Then this isn't the phone for you.

A very hard wearing phone & reasonably priced. I would keep mine if I didn't want a better camera, I am going for the Sony Ericsson 890i now :).

I am overall fairly satisfied with this phone for what it is! To be honest it is my partner's mum's phone, & this is the perfect phone for her as it does all it needs to do for someone like her! What I mean is that she isn't someone who wants to bang out tunes from a mobile, so as long as it does what she needs it for then all is good!

There is one query I have though which I hope someone out there can help me with! She is really annoyed that she can't play the games on it!

When you enter the games menu it says that there is 'NO INSTALLED MIDLET SUITES'. I have absolutely no idea what this means so I am hoping someone can help!

Someone please help. So I can get her off my back (LOL)!

Phone was quite good but it is getting a bit old now. It doesn't have Bluetooth but it was good for its time. Practically it was indestructible dropped it 15 stairs, it hit 12 but still intact. I accidentally stood on it while I was running, only a little scratch. In the last few weeks it has started to play up. It has started to go ballistic when it gets a message. Sometimes it does not receive or send but gets messages in a big heap. It is ugly but it served its purpose well.

I really like this phone I have had it for 2 years but my mate knocked my coat out my hand & the screen went off & know it hasn't got any picture I can turn it on & off & I have sound big help & I can't answer or call (how practical) this is a perfect phone as long as it's not dropped I am now going to get a Nokia 7373.

Oh & my v220 is a pink & it is very nice if you like them but he screen is tiny & it has no Bluetooth very poor camera & it's not very much in fashion hope this review help & don't let me put you off if you are devoted to wanting one I will list some good points, very basic & easy to use very loud sound nice & practical no messing about down to the point nice ring tones cheap.

Overall very easy & pretty but I want one with Bluetooth & video & camera & MP3 it sounds a lot but there worth it you would be surprised what you can get for your money now day.

Easy to use. This is a simple phone with not too many features, which is great if that's what you want.

This is what I wanted until recently, when I wanted to use Bluetooth & missed it on the phone, but until that point I was very pleased with its battery life (over the last couple of years), ease of use of features & of its incredible durability of being constantly dropped so that the battery has flown off & it still recovering to be fully functional again (a definite plus if you're clumsy as me or get that way on the occasional night out!

So, my vote is to buy for simplicity & durability, but not for advanced technology.

Good usable phone if you don't need Bluetooth battery still good after 3 years, camera seems to got less sharper but could be me getting use to better on a newer phone.

Happy when I brought it & still was when I sold & succumbed to the lure of a shiny new model.

The only moan would be the ring tone kept getting changed to silent with the buttons on the side no being lockable.

Not to impressed that Motorola seem to disown it now & you need to search the site for what little support they still offer.

This was my first phone, I got it when I was just 13, now I am 15 & it's still in perfect condition. I am getting a new phone only because I am changing to contract on another network. Wouldn't change if I didn't have to.

Great clear calls, easy to text, got a few games, some nice ringtones. It's not great for somebody who wants new high tech features but it's great for someone who just wants a basic phone as it's very easy to use. It makes a great first phone for a young person.

I have bought many phones during my professional life. The Motorola v220 is one that gave me the most satisfaction. It has excellent sound quality, a great speaker phone. The camera is not to compare with the newest 1.3 mega pixel high price PDA phone.

The 640 x 480 image quality is similar to older 1990s Desktop computers but is more than descent enough for a tiny phone like the Motorola v220.With a 4x zoom camera, it have equivalent strength to many early 2003 digital cameras.

My profession requires me to make frequent travel inside North America. At that time I was with Cingular but many states in the Middle West doesn't guarantee reception with that provider. I love my Moto v220 so much that I didn't want to buy a different phone for local provider.

I needed then to unlock it but Cingular was reticent to give me an unlocking code. I can understand their decision, I was for more than 3 years in contract with them & always a good payer. After insistence, one costumer service agent suggested me to get a Cingular unlocking code card on eBay. These cards are often provided my big cellular company like Cingular, T Mobiles & they have the logo of those companies. So it's perfectly legal because they are sold by those very same companies.

My only regret was to purchase those unlocking cards for $35 on eBay, because I discovered that Motorola V220 was very easy to unlock with a software & regular USB cable (include with the phone)if you want to do it yourself. If you don't have that cable, it is sold less than $5 dollars at any electronic stores. Furthermore the unlocking code for the v220 is all over the Internet for free & you don't need any cable. Without doubt in mind, I recommend that phone because if its price versus qualities.

I am not sure if it's just my computer but I can't connect it to the computer it just won't work. I have the wire to plug it in which I had to buy myself & now it says it needs this CD that I don't have! It is alright as a first phone but I wouldn't recommend it to someone who wants more from their phone. It is very basic & doesn't even have Bluetooth which I was a bit cheesed off about.

I loved the style of this phone, so compact & easy to use. The camera was very poor, but I suppose alright for the price. I don't use the phone so often, but after a year the battery would not hold its charge. I took it back to carphone, where it was repaired free of charge, but when returned it would not charge. I was given a replacement reconditioned phone, which lasted about a month & then the battery would not charge. I think this is a hardware problem with the design of the phone. Neither of the cameras functioned for long & I found the screen difficult to see in sunshine, or even outside in daylight, so could only text indoors.

This phone is great if you only want it for the basics like texting & calling, if you want a phone with more features I suggest not getting this phone.

I have had it for almost 2 years & its still working fine. I have dropped it on numerous accounts & it has scratches galore on it but it still works very well. The only thing wrong with it is that about a day after I got it started screeching when I opened & closed it. But that was most probably my fault from flinging it open. One good thing about this phone is that it has a good camera, & stores a fare few photos on it too, & as for the messages, at the moment I have 126 messages in the inbox, 29 in the outbox & 3 in the draft, so it holds a lot of messages at one time.

So if you're a simple person just wanting a simple phone for texting & calling, & some extra little features, this is the best phone for you!

I personally do not think the Motorola v220 very useful to me. I can only really use it for texting & calling people. It was my first phone & I got it when I was ready to start year 7. It was great for me because I had not had much experience with mobile phones, but as I got older I decided I might want to upgrade & get a phone with far more features like blue tooth, infrared & radio. The problem with this phone is the battery life. It charged it yesterday morning & the next morning it was on 1 bar. WHAT? The design is sleek & light but I soon realised that once I got this phone the was no going back.

Here are the reasons why:

- I dropped it down the toilet & it still worked.
- I dropped it in Waitrose 3 time & it was fine.
- BASICALLY THIS PHONE IS IMMORTAL. Once you have it there's no going back, your stuck with it in sum way!

I am now hoping to get Samsung E900. The only good points in the Motorola v220 are that it's a simple phone & good for a first phone. But if you want a phone with all the features & accessories, Samsung & Nokia are you makes!

This phone is not worth buying. Don't get fooled by the cheapness its only cheap cause its rubbish!

Thanks! Bye!

I got this phone for my birthday & this phone has been useful to me. It has the longest battery one can ask for, even when I leave it on in my bag over night its still on three bars! I have to say, as the phone market increases this phone seems worse & worse. The screen is blurred but I did love how you could change the colour of the screen & features. The only thing I liked about the camera is you could change it to different colour settings & it sticks out like a sore thumb on the back of the phone. If you want a phone for basic use this is for you but if you want something more up-to-date there are loads out there!

I got this phone about a year ago. It lasted for quite a while but around January/February the microphone broke [so you can hear them, but they can't hear you]. Then soon after, I stopped being able to hear the other person as well. My volume keys [originally silver] have gone black & the screen is all scratchy. There is also a permanent black dot on my camera. I can't believe the price I bought this phone for when it does not have video recording, Bluetooth or any special features. Now you can buy it for about £30, I think you should only buy this phone if you plan to just text & call & you would only like some minimum features & you are willing to take very special care of it.

I have had this phone for over two years now, the longest I have kept a mobile (Previous have been Nokia's) & I am only changing it due to it been worn on the edges now & I want Bluetooth. Yes, it's not top of the range but it has never failed me, even with me dropping it more than once on my wooden floor at home. I especially like the usability of the phone, when ever I use my boyfriends various Nokia's I realise how easy the Motorola is & how frustrating the Nokia is to use. My next phone will definitely be a Motorola. Just not decided which one!

Done me very well over the last few years but the outside has mostly worn off by now, but this is after 2 years. I have had no problems at all with it apart from that. Arial is a bit unsightly & size compared to others a bit chunky.

Hi not the prettiest or best phone on the market! Cheap & generally cheerful, I have no complaints about it other than I don't like the irritating noise it makes when you open it, other than that it is fine! Certainly much more reliable than the succession of my v3's it replaced!

We have 2 of these phones in the household & there is one common problem, which is that people you are calling cannot hear you although you can here them. This happens from a variety of locations around the UK. This problem first arose on one phone about 6 months ago, & Virgin replaced it; since then it has been fine. My wife's phone has had the same problem for about a month, & both Orange & Motorola refuse to replace it. They are hiding behind the fact that the phone was purchased in November 05 as a Christmas present, but was not activated until December 26th. They are saying that the warranty began in November, although the phone was not taken out of the box for more than a month. A pretty shabby response.

Have had this phone since June 2006, has been back twice. First time, battery would not stay charged for more than 2 hours. Now it has gone back again, can only use it as speaker phone & have to have a 'rubber band' round it to keep the battery connected! WOULD NOT BUY THIS AGAIN!

Had this phone for two years now. Was great when I got it, but compared to other phones now, it is very behind the time. Main problem is not enough memory. I have had no other problems with this phone, apart from the camera went faulty, but was quickly repaired.

This is a nice phone to use, but it hasn't got as many features as some of the newer phones. That said, it has had enough to keep me occupied for 2-3 years so far. The games are quite good. They are:
- Hungry Fish
- OpeItOut
- Foto Fun Pack 2

The phone is extremely easy to use & it's very small as well. It's quite light in your pocket & it's really easy to carry about. You hardly know it's there! I think this is a very good phone & you can buy it new now for about £30+. If you want a cheap, good quality phone then this is the phone for you.

I think this is an amazing little phone for the amount I paid for it. I've had it for 2 years now & NOTHING has happened in that 2 years. It's always worked perfectly.

Okay.. well maybe sometimes it might be a tiny bit slow but that's if you're pressing buttons too fast. The camera is the sort of thing you'd expect from something you paid that much for. It's never broken & has ALWAYS worked perfectly to take brilliant photos. I have no idea what the other reviewers have been saying about this phone. Nothing is wrong about it. It could've done better with Bluetooth but for the amount you pay for it, the phone is good. It's a fact that Motorola used cheaper plastic for the phone & have used different cheaper materials inside it but admit it to both yourself & your computer: "WOULD YOU PAY OVER £100 FOR THIS PHONE IF IT HAD THE SAME FEATURES IT HAS NOW BUT WAS JUST MADE OF A SLIGHTLY STRONGER PLASTIC?!?"

I for one wouldn't. I go for the features, not the plastic.
I know this phone cannot break if you use it properly.
A phone should be used properly otherwise DON'T BUY A PHONE!
Before I've ever bought a phone, I've read reviews.
IN THE FUTURE, READ REVIEWS FIRST BEFORE YOU BUY IT! THIS WILL STOP YOU PEOPLE OUT THERE WRITING NEGATIVE UNTRUE THINGS ABOUT THE PHONE! IF YOU READ THE REVIEWS THEN DECIDE IF YOU WANT TO BUY IT, YOU WON'T HAVE TO WASTE YOUR TIME WRITING NEGATIVE REVIEWS!

Buy it if you are looking for good quality photos & a small, easy-to-use mobile phone that is well priced & has all the things you need. Don't bother going for something like a Samsung D500 if it has MORE than what you want for a high price. Thank you.

Was this phone designed by a 2 year old? Motorola, take some much needed advice from Sony Ericsson & Nokia, & if you can't do this, then stop producing phones, save yourself the time & effort (if you use any in designing your phones).

While the phone looks quite good, the cheaper components used in its assembly mean that it has a shorter lifespan. Due to the classic Motorola clamshell design, actually using the thing wears it out, the only way to extend the phones working life is:

1. Don't put it in your back pocket, Motorola will claim it was damaged through this & argue over who is responsible.

2. don't open it to use it, the clamshell design means that after a certain amount of use, either the connections to the mic or speaker will fail or become intermittent, trying to make a call when no one at the other end can hear you is very annoying.

I would recommend Motorola, but not their clamshell rang of phones, I'm afraid they just don't stand up to everyday use.

This mobile isn't great but it does the job if all you want is a basic phone that you only use to call or text people, but if you are like me & want all the gadgets on your phone, I advise you not to get this phone! It doesn't have bluetooth, MP3, video & lots more. The camera is ok & it is easy to textbut apart from that don't get it, for a bit more money you could get a much better mobile phone.

Stay well clear of this mobile. The cheapest components seem to have been used. For just a few more quid it is possible to get a higher spec phone. Consider what you want your phone to do very carefully, before purchasing one of these.

If you have teenage children & are thinking about buying them a mobile as a surprise, then I would suggest that you talk to them about mobiles before you part with your money. For one they would be very disappointed, as kids of today want all the latest gadgets there is on the market. You will be upset for wasting your money.
