Motorola SLVR L7 Review

The Motorola SLVR L7 is a very slim & desirable mobile phone that comes complete with some very attractive features. The Motorola SLVR L7 pays a slight resemblance to the Motorola ROKR E1 but the ROKR E1 has very music orientated features & the SLVR L7 focuses on the imaging & music features. The SLVR L7 is ultra slim compared to the ROKR E1 but both of these phones are very popular & offer the user much entertainment as well as being beautifully designed phones. The SLVR L7 has a dual screen for easy viewing & a fantastically crafted keypad which is very user friendly. The SLVR L7 comes with an integrated VGA camera complete 4 x digital zoom which can be displayed on the excellent colour screen. The phone has a very clear video record & playback feature which is highly usable & perfect for capturing all of those special memories. The SLVR L7 comes with up to 512 megabytes of memory with the expandable TransFlash™ memory card so the user can record away to their hearts content & the phones memory will save it all.

The Motorola SLVR L7 comes with the SCREEN3 feature which allows the user to have a zero click access to all of the current news, entertainment & sporting events directly from their mobile device home screen. With SCREEN3 there are no buttons to press or no browsers to launch & the user has access to all of the current events they require.

I have used it for one year & it hasn't given me any trouble. I am really happy with the phone. Also, it looks classy! Camera isn't great, but since I don't care about that feature too much, it doesn't bother me.

All in all, a good phone.

A great design, if we don't compare it to Nokia features for example we find that L7 has essential features but not additional or creative ones. & at the end when it comes to usability first you'll find it a little bit complicated but it becomes easier when you assign your own shortcuts & you get used to it.

In my opinion this is a great mobile, it doesn't break easily.

Whatever you do, DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE.

My mum bought this just today, she asked me to show her how to use it & I got so frustrated with it as it kept doing things I didn't want it to do. It has such a sensitive touch screen. I think it also feels very flimsy.

It just goes to show that Vodafone must not employ people to test the phones before they agree to sell them, other networks have been smart & stayed well clear of this useless phone.

I would keep well clear of this phone you will just be wasting your money!

This phone is AWESOME coupled with a 1GB memory card & great Java software. Nothing can beat it. I've been accessing GPRS from my phone & it's really fast & the phone is very slim making it easy to slide it in your pocket & light weight too. The camera is by far better than other phones & has a Crisp display & I have a Sony Walkman phone & a Nokia N76 & the speaker in my SLVR phone beats them all by far & the use of iTunes. Lets me sync it to my PC & also the compatibility of personalising it with skins. Lastly I should say. This phone is a great buy. It's very cheap compared to Nokia & has excellent build & battery life

I have had this phone about 14 months now, it's a good phone, I have the red one so it looks quite stylish, I have not had any major problems with it, it holds a good charge. I agree with some other comments about the Bluetooth mine has never been able to pick any other phone up! So it's not brilliant. I have had to send others stuff before I could connect with them & yes I had to buy an extra memory card to boost the memory. Overall it has not been a bad phone so far, I had a Samsung one before this one & the screen went on it after 6 months so it is better than that one!

I have had this phone for around 18 months now I think, & have never had any problems with it, despite the amount of dropping it has to suffer through. Great build quality. Also, it hasn't scratched anywhere. Keys still work & no battery related problems either, apart from the usual decrease in life over time, but that's to be expected.

Do NOT buy this phone if you are looking for great features because it doesn't really have any. It has a rubbish VGA camera & the Bluetooth is awful too. The memory is really bad, so you have to buy a memory card if you want to store anything at all on the phone. No message capacity, even with a memory card, it still stores them to the phone, either that or I haven't found out how to get them on the memory card & believe me I have tried.

Good points. It has never failed me once. I get good reception on the phone. It's quite quick. I don't seem to get the lag problems some other people complain about. It looks damn sleek for a simple phone. Texting is easy once you get used to the Motorola style, & the speaker is quite decent for music etc. Also it puts all your pictures videos & music into a handy little media section if that's what you want it for. But I wouldn't advise it as there are much better phones out there for music & pictures.

If you are looking for a robust good quality phone then this is a good choice, but those looking for something more technology based, look somewhere else.

Hi, I got this phone May 2006 have not really had any major problems, but recently the screen keeps going white if I drop it (probably because I have dropped it so many times! ), build quality is great not too delicate, which is good. Battery life has gone downhill a bit in the last 5 months good camera, sound quality out the speaker on the back is awesome compared to most phones, yes I would recommend this phone I paid £130 for mine but I am sure price has dropped now though.

I have had this phone for 18 months & never had any kind of technical problem with it, I have dropped it loads but it's never failed on me. It's got a good battery life too. My only complaint is the lack of memory, it won't let me store more than 50 messages in each box which is really annoying seeing as I text a lot. I think it's a bit cheeky to expect you the consumer to buy a memory card separately, a good memory should come as standard.

Overall I think the Motorola SLVR L7 is a brilliant phone however it does have a few down falls. I think the look of it is excellent, looks very stylish & modern & a good size.

On the other hand I have to admit the Bluetooth isn't too good as you can't find others regularly on it. Another down fall has to be how the phone screen can scratch very easily, & finally I've had this phone for about 2 years now & it decides to turn itself on & off sometimes while using it.

Apart from the 2 minor down falls this is an excellent phone that I recommend, get a larger memory card by the way & you can fit so much more. Buy it, you can get it for a good price.

I brought this phone, the red one. It takes a high memory card & could easily store 200 songs. The case is really strong (metal) & I have dropped it a couple of times (no damage done, my other phone wasn't so lucky) It's got a really good design & the features are cool. I would recommend this phone, it's great.

Fantastic Design it looks amazing. Features are MEGA BAD! If you want to send something over Bluetooth you have to turn on Bluetooth then send it when on other phones you just send it & it will automatically turn its self on! It takes ages to find people on Bluetooth as well.

The way to lock the phone is to push the very, very small menu button right above the circular thing (which by the way has broken on mine because the 'Metal' part of it has broken off & it makes it look stupid) & it is really hard to push it.

Don't BUY THIS PHONE BUY SOMETHING WORTH MONEY BECAUSE THIS IS WORTH NOTHING. I'd rather walk around with those blocks they use to have than even been seen attempting using this phone. Design good everything else is rubbish don't BUY.

This phone is great, especially with use of 'Motorola phone tools'. From what I am seeing, the US version of the L7 is a little different, although most of the nagging problems are still present I.e., minimal internal memory 'about 6 megs', camera could be better, but does its job, awful video, no camera flash, unable to set ringtone from memory card & sorry I-Tunes AAC player (100 song cap). I

On the other end, looks great; comes bundled with 3ft mini USB to USB cable, ear buds, 512MB MicroSD card, mini USB to 3.5mm audio input (I used it to plug in an FM transmitter to play MP3 through car stereo), TFT Screen looks awesome, freedom of MP3 based ringtones mean you don't have to pay your carrier for them, just make them yourself & save to memory card & the best feature of all, use of the phone as a GPRS modem with a laptop anywhere there is GSM service (in case you forget to e-mail that TPS report).

I've had mine for a year & haven't had a single problem with it. So, (in my opinion) overall the phone is a good buy.

I acknowledge the fact that designing & re-designing of phone hand sets isn't an easy task. To improve on the phones on market manufacturer needs feedback from consumer to up-grade & further improve the usability, durability & the rest.

The Battery for the L7 is just pathetic. Even while it was new it didn't last hardly two days. Without running down. The ring tones are fixed. Global world is now encouraging people to invent stuff based on there likes. It's unfortunate this phone doesn't just allow that.

The internal memory concept is brilliant. Nevertheless, can the size be increased to say something like 1GB instead of tiny 128KB?

These are just users thoughts geared towards improving future products.

Pros:
- nice design
- MP3 player is fine

Cons:
- bad camera (only VGA)
- loads of preloaded pictures & sounds which undeletable
- doesn't come with software
- MP3 ringtones can't be played from microSD card. You have to copy it to the phone's small internal memory

In all, it's a good phone if looks matter. If you're looking for features, go for Sony Ericsson.

On the plus side, this phone looks great, it's lightweight & it's generally pretty cool & I was very pleased with it for about a week or two. However, there are a significant number of irritating problems with it that just make it a terrible phone. First of all the software for texting is unbelievably poor. It doesn't recognise any punctuation or capitalisation intelligently & you can't join words together to make what you're looking for without it trying to autocorrect. It's also extremely slow & just doesn't allow you to send a 'quick text'. This is made worse because the buttons are extremely fiddly & prone to mistypes. Then there's the fact it comes with literally nothing other than a battery. No cables & no memory card, which is significant when the inbuilt memory is so small (c50 texts, 30 seconds of video, a handful of photos). The camera is also awful quality & the video can't cope with lots of the videos on friend's phones when they're imported. However the real problem is the reception. Given anything less than fantastic reception, this phone will cut out. I've not even discussed the irritating alarm system or the counter-intuitive menu system but you get the picture. Poor phone & I'll be going back to either Sony Ericssons or Nokias in future.

I have the red moto slvr & it looks really nice! I didn't like the fact that I had to buy a memory card because it had so little memory. The phone is very easy to use but it has NO features but the camera. The camera is very poor because it makes you look darker so I have to put it on night mode a lot.

I do like the phone but it just is not the phone for me I would say that my old Samsung d900 is much better! X x x

Someone has already said it before, but if you want a camera then this isn't for you. If you want Internet then this isn't for you. If you want sounds then this isn't for you!

Good points:
This phone is great looking, lightweight & slim to carry. It has a large, clear screen which you can reorganise by installing another skin on the handset (so you can alter soft key layout, operator logos, time/date etc). It has most of the basic features that Joe Blogs wants, with music player, video player, Bluetooth, some games, a camera, a video recorder, calculator, calendar & alarm clock. Predictive text is easy to use once learned, & writing a new word is very simple but it doesn't always get kept in memory for future use.

Bad points:
Ringtones can be set as MP3's but only if they are in the phone memory. So you're limited to one (very small) song. Memory capacity for SMS / MMS is really bad. I get around 40 messages in total on the phone (& that's inbox & sent box added together!). Bluetooth is a pain to learn to use but does connect to almost anything once you get the hang of it. The phone book only goes to each letter & not any lower (so if you have 5 Jamie's & 10 John's then you'll have to scroll through each one when you press 'J'). Camera is VERY basic. Virtually no features on it & no picture editor (see earlier point about wanting a camera!). Speakerphone is very quiet & can't really be heard in anything but a quiet environment.

I think for style this phone is great, & usability is very good (but not the best I've ever used), what really lets the phone down is the basic features that you get stuck with. Definitely a style over content phone, but worth looking at!

- This mobile doesn't have full screen video
- Bad Bluetooth about 8kb/s
- Battery spoils if overcharged
- Camera is not good
- Keypad is delicate it may crack is harder we press
- Steel battery cover

Physically, this phone is brilliant, but after years of using Sony Ericssons & Nokia's, the system software is relatively rubbish. The menu looks so primitive & things like the Bluetooth turning off after 60 seconds to save battery? If I wanted to save battery, I wouldn't have it on in the first place! On the good side, the camera & screen are of relatively high quality, & the MP3 playback is tops, a fairly standard phone, but I would recommend others go for brands such as Sony Ericsson first.

Clock: When the screen is locked the clock ISN'T displayed, i.e. You have to unlock the phone to find out what time it is if you're mobile doubles as a pocket watch, which a lot of people do use it for. ;- (

Clock: the onscreen clock is also small & in the corner of the screen.

Voice recorder: There is none! :- (Why not?

Menu system: has a poorly organised menu system compared to some other mobile manufacturers IMHO.

Overall score: 6/10

Needs to try harder. The engineers at Motorola need to take a look at how the competition do things.

Nice sleek design but poor UI.

Phonebook search: Searching the phonebook is very awkward compared to Nokia's UI. Searching for 'Bill', for example by typing 'Bi' displays names beginning with 'B' first & then jumps to names beginning with 'I'.

MP3 ringtones: Can't be played from microSD card! Must be copied to phones (small) internal memory before they can be used ;- (

Ring volume: Not loud enough.

Vibration alert: Not strong enough & too few modes.

Ring & vibration alerts cannot be customised only three modes! :- (

Video camera: Clips are time limited to around two minutes or so unlike Nokia or SonyE. Recorded video also very jerky & full of mpeg artifacts.

Video camera (again): Very poor performance in low light.

Construction quality: the unit I bought had the bottom of the screen where it met the keyboard was uneven on one side.

Screen: very dim & had to read in direct sunlight.

Predictive Text: If you've owned & use a Nokia phone the predictive text on the Motorola will make you pull out your hair & cry with frustration ;- (

I learned my lesson. Stick to Nokia or SonyE.

I bought this phone yesterday! I love it! The MP3s are brilliant. The blue tooth, though a little confusing at first, once figured out is very easy to use. It stays on for 60secs (blue tooth) but this, to me, is a plus because it saves battery. For 11.5mm it sure has a lot! GET IT NOW! The backlight is brilliant. Only problem is it doesn't come with a hands-free kit. All the SLVRS come with a 64MB card if you buy them new! Brilliant phone, cool features!

I love the design. I love the feel of it, it is really solid. I'm not really bothered about the camera, I tend to use a camera if that's what I need, not a phone. I'm not massively keen on Motorola's UI, but it works, unlike this phone. Attempting to display the phonebook will frequently just bring up a message 'Please Wait'. You can wait as long as you like, but nothing more will happen. You can cancel out of this but you will not be able to look up a number until you power the phone off & on again, even then it isn't guaranteed. Then there is the way it randomly reboots itself in the middle of a game, which is mildly annoying but then it's a phone, not a games console. The random reboots in the middle of a call are another matter, that's kind of fundamental in a phone.

So I sent it back to be fixed under warranty, they say they flashed a new software version onto it but it still behaves the same way. I'll send it back again this week.

- Rubbish Camera - only VGA
- In the pictures menu pictures look slightly fuzzy
- Bluetooth only stays on for 60 seconds
- Video capture really short - only 2 minutes with a 1 GB memory card
- Loads of preloaded pictures & sounds which are undeletable
- Doesn't come with data cable or software

Apart from that, pretty good!

When it turns off it stays on with just a white screen. This problem happened then disappeared by its own accord...mysterious! Yet its come bk again after 3 weeks...

SLVR coudb be nice but...
- Battery life - no longer than 3-4 days
- VGA camera - gives low quality pics, lenses coud be much better
- Bluetooth - this is the stuppidest thing if you want to make sth you have only 60 sec before it is going to go off
- MP3 player - generating more fuzz than sound.

I will change it as soon as possible. I'm struggling with it for 3 months.

I have purchased now three of the Motorola slvr L7 handsets. Every time it doesn't like to connect up with my Bluetooth outbound. But when a friends tries to connect to me from there phone it works. It won't allow me to send multimedia messages. It's a good phone on the outside but with 3 faulty phones of same model & same faults what good is that. I've had two siemens phones in the past, as well as a Motorola, & I decided to 'upgrade' to the RED version, not for its features but for the cause it was supporting. In the beginning I had no problems with it but within four days, the handset began to lose its ability to get a signal & when I was able to make a call using hands free feature, the other person noticed that my transmission kept dropping out.

I tried master reset as a last resort & the problems just got worse. Eventually, it died. Perhaps I had a unit with faulty software but it is a little disheartening when you get a new phone.

Great features, design & clear instructions but ensure that if you get this particular model & get similar problems, take it back & get another one.

Looking to upgrade my phone at the moment & the mobile phone markets has changed so much in a year. I like the look of the new Motorola SLVR L7 RED as it is so eye catching & tactile. Great deals out there for this new RED version but I am a Sony Ericsson girl normally & I am so scared of change. Features are cool & I would have loads of fun with the camera & videoing features. RED is a hot & racy colour & would suit me but I will not rush into this decision.

Having to convert videos with a converter blows it should have come with some type of software. Ear phone port should have been integrated...with out having to use expensive adapter....lots of things i can see wrong with it but on the bright side there's alot good about it too...awesome camera...descent video cam.....like the mp3's.....very cool phone i always get good input from people when using it in public....

The Motorola SLVR L7 is the thinnest handset on the market at the moment. Has a comfort feel to it & with the metal keypad reacts to the lightest of touches which shows off the blue backlight. Having Bluetooth wireless technology provides the easiest of connections to give my hands freedom to work. Has a nice & useful camera with a good size colour screen. The Motorola L7 SLVR comes with additional memory slot, which makes it easy to store all your favourite music files. Comes with lots of memory & are able to store up to 1,000 phone numbers. Having Tri Band allows you to use it in other countries around the world. The SLVR L7 combines "polyphonic" ring tones with MP3 technology. GPRS allows you to have fast & easy access to the internet. I am really enjoying mine & if you are thinking about treating yourself this is well worth the expense, believe you can get some great deals on a new contract.
