Motorola RAZR V3i Review

The Motorola RAZR V3i is an extremely sleek, stylish & highly designed mobile phone. It has a sculpted metal keypad & comes in a brushed metal casing which adds to it sophisticated appearance. The RAZR V3i is very similar to the Motorola RAZR V3 but the RAZR V3i is slightly slimmer & sleeker design. The Motorola V3i is available in special editions which include the Motorola V3i DG & the Motorola V3i m. The Motorola V3i DG is a Dolce & Gabbana phone which is unique & oozes a designer chic feel to it. The V3i DG has a gold coloured casing which has an anodized aluminum finish & the keypad is also gold. The phone comes with a gold DG headset & is the ultimate fashion statement. The Motorola V3i m is a maroon coloured version of the V3i & the classy coloured casing stands out in a crowd. The internal colour screen is large & works excellently as a full screen view finder. The RAZR V3i has a 1.23 megapixel digital camera which comes with an 8 x zoom which allows the user to take the perfect photos. The phone comes complete with a video record & video playback feature which allows the user to always capture those special moments & save them on the MicroSD® removable memory card. The MicroSD® removable memory card can store photos & it is then possible for the user to print out the photos when they are back at home.

The external screen is very bright, clear & comes with 65k colours. The external screen is used to display who is calling & it is possible for the user to see all of this without even opening the RAZR V3i. The phone comes with a picture caller ID feature which is displayed on the external screen & it shows a picture of the caller instead of just displaying a contact number.

Motorola RAZR V3i Mobile Phone Open View
Motorola RAZR V3i Mobile Phone Side View

The airplane mode feature is great if the user travels as it is possible for the user to listen to music, play games, view their calendar & access their contact list whilst they are on the airplane.

The RAZR V3i includes SCREEN3 technology which allows the user to see the latest worldwide news, sporting events & entertainment. The SCREEN3 is instant with a zero click access to all the news & there is no reason for the user to launch or search too far for any current events.

The RAZR V3i has a fabulous MP3 player & the phone comes with iTunes® music software which gives the user the freedom to transfer their favourite tunes directly to their mobile phone. The Motorola RAZR V3i allows the user to enjoy their favourite music & the sound quality is second to none. The phone has MP3 ringtones already installed & the user can download many more for their personal pleasure.

The phone has quad band technology which allows the user to roam across countries & continents with ease. The Bluetooth® technology allows the user to have a wire free connection at any time.

The phone comes with J2ME™ games embedded & the user can download many more games from the Internet. The internal screen can display high quality wallpapers & screensavers & the user can download more from the Internet to give the RAZR V3i a very personal theme & feel.

This phone is great, for about 1 week, it's so simple that you get bored of using it. There are a few features in the phone e.g. Airplane mode, & loads of themes, but it's slow, & the camera is rubbish. The only cool thing I can find about the phone is that it has a voice recognition that responds to your voice, e.g. 'name dial' it will then call the name that you wish. Apart from that, really boring, & slow.

I will admit to being over 50, & a VERY occasional PAYG mobile user. I am a competent PC user, but I only buy technology I actually NEED. I decided I needed to get something that looked a bit neater than my old Nokia brick, that fitted in a shirt pocket comfortably, & didn't cost the earth. I own a couple of good cameras & have a decent sound system at home, so I do not need a telephone to do those things for me. However, it appears the V3i does them anyway. Oh, well, whatever.

Out of the box, it feels good & well-constructed. The nice young lady in the shop had done all the SIM & Memory card stuff for me, so I just started playing with the buttons & menus without looking at the manual [I am male! ]. It all seemed to make sense, although some stuff was quite hard to find & the manual was at times useless in that regard. But so far, it was a nice phone. Then I connected to the PC, inserted the CD, & HAPPY. Within a couple of minutes I had imported by entire MS Outlook address book & calendar. How easy was that?

The teenagers' toys of texting all day, playing MP3 tracks, the latest ringtones, games, screensavers, sending pictures to school friends & the like are totally irrelevant to my life. However, I now have what appears to be a decent phone that carries all the data I need, works in the USA (critical requirement) & doesn't feel like I am carrying a bag of groceries in my pocket. So far, I am very impressed.

I have had this phone for a year & a half, with hardly any problems!

Despite everyone saying that the screens are fragile, I haven't had any problems with mine, & the interior & exterior screens are fine! I am kind of violent with my phones, though not intentionally!

I knocked it off my bookshelf after having it for about 6 months, & since then it has occasionally come up with a white screen & restarted it's self. It also comes up with the white screen when in a call sometimes now. These are both minor glitches however, especially after all of its mistreatment.

The design is great, & it's still fashionable after I have had it for 18 months. It has a good camera for a cheap phone, even though it doesn't have a flash.

Its internal memory is impeded by the non delete able ring tones that are on there, but this is OK I suppose, as I use a card & not the phone memory.

This is quite simply, the worst phone I ever owned.

I chose it because it looked pretty & regretted it almost instantly. The functionality was never that great, & then within a few short weeks, the external screen on the front cracked across the corner. (I had other friends with the same phone, with identical cracks on the screen). The screen cracked AGAIN a few weeks later. Predictive texting was also irritating, as the software didn't recognize many words or remember them even when they were added manually.

Unfortunately the time the screen died & I got rid of it, the external screen had no less than three major cracks across it. I replaced it with my boyfriend's spare, the Motorola RAZR V3 (the model prior to this one) which was just as bad, it would freeze & lock up for no reason, & had virtually no memory.

After my disastrous experiences with these Motorola RAZR phones, I would NEVER buy another Motorola.

Phone is great easy to use. But I find that after three installing a 1GB card, that it takes forever to open the MP3. Also the phone screen goes white for more than one minute on start up. The battery has to be charged after 16 hours of standby, but first it discharges then charges. This can take up to 8 hours, phone is rubbish would not ever by a Motorola RAZR. I had to buy a Nokia 6126 & everything works great.

I brought this phone about 1 year ago second hand (Ok, I probably shouldn't therefore complain too much about it having just recently dying.)

I can say that generally, the outward design of the phone is in a class of its own- it always look more expensive than it is in public! However, the down side is that the phone itself does seem to be very poorly manufactured. It does not feel very rugged when used, & you'll always worry about whether tomorrow is its last day in use!

Again, like others have said, the battery life on the phone is not always that good also, as you have to charge it nearly every day.

Like I said earlier, the phone has died on me recently. It was not used brutally, but seemed to have developed a electric fault?

Overall a good looking phone, no doubt. Average features. However not half as rugged as a Nokia.

So they all passed the DESIGN, FEATURES & USABILITY test.

This is by far, the worse phone I have ever used! Although it is easy to use, there are enough features & the design is decent, the external screen cracked within a few months. The screen should have been made of stronger material.

Also, very frequently, the external screen turns different colours. The mobile is slow as well. If you open up your phone, it takes seconds for you to realise you have a message!

The keypad also feels too metal-like & wears way too easily. The camera is absolute rubbish but what would you expect with a 1.2 megapixel camera. The videos also are really bad. It's all very pixelated & the noises are emphasised more.

It has very little storage space as well so you can't keep anything stored to the phone because they don't allow you to delete any of their (plain & ordinary) ringtones, wallpapers & themes.

I so would not recommend anyone to buy this phone if they want lots of use out of it.

After one month I have cracked & replaced the outer lens three times. I am really not that clumsy. The outer screen is far too fragile. Maybe replacement lens should be made from clear Lexan. I found a place where I get replacement screens for $3.00 each now. I have four more on the way (just in case)!

I have had this phone for just over a year. I love the design & find it easy to use. It's quite loud & has a good music player. However the phone hasn't got a large memory so can't store many of your own tracks to use as ring tones, I think I only have about 2 stored on phone as it won't let you delete the rubbish ones that come with the phone to free up some more memory.

The biggest downside to this phone is that after a few months the external & internal screens would start doing crazy things & switching over or going upside down. Now after all this time the external screen just goes blue all the time & the internal one just goes white & then says no service, which is really annoying when in the middle of writing a long text. I can't see it lasting much longer, & I take really good care of my phones so not due to me throwing it about. So I wouldn't recommend this phone really which is a shame as otherwise it's a good little phone.

Had this phone for 2 years, a bit faulty & occasionally turned off without me doing anything, but had now completely broken. Screen goes blank when I open it & fails to send texts on numerous occasions. Good design but not great. My mum also has this phone & hers has had to be sent to be repaired 4 times. Wouldn't really recommend this phone.

Just upgraded to the new PEBL 2. Know its early days but the v3i is a fabulous phone! Have to admit my front screen cracked within a couple of months, but despite that not bad enough for you not to be able to see it, & it's always worked perfectly.

I have had this phone for nearly 3 years now! I did buy a new phone a few weeks ago but compared to my V3i it was really awful. It's a shame you can't use your own headphones with it as the proper Motorola ones are not that good, I did buy a adapter so I could use my own headphones but the problem with that was the volume was very low so the adapter was a waste of money! I have a 1GB micro card in it so I have plenty of storage for my songs, videos & pictures. I bought this phone not long after they came out & it cost me £259, so over the last few years they have come down a lot in price & you can get them for roughly £70. I have had no problems with this phone in the 3 years I have had so you could say I have had my money's worth!

If you are thinking of buying one of these V3i I wouldn't hesitate as they are a real quality phone & last for years as I am proof of that, very easy to use!

I used to have the basic V3 on Pay As You Go. I recently took out a contract & got a new Samsung phone but I just didn't get on with it & sold it on eBay & bought a V3i. I love the Motorola's. I find them so easy to use & nice to hold. I particularly like the Ring Styles feature which allows you to set your own volume & ring tones for loud, soft, vibrate & ring, & vibrate then ring & it's so quick to switch from one to the other. On the down side, it's silly that when you set a special ring tone for a particular number, you can't differentiate between a call & a text. Ideally you should be able to set two ring tones, a short snappy one for a text & a longer one for a call but you can't do this & it's the one thing that really annoys me! The battery life on the V3i is not as good as it was on the V3 but batteries are cheap & I have lots of spares which I keep charged up. (I use my old V3 as a charger. I also have another spare V3 which I keep in the car). I find them quite hard wearing. I've lost count of the times I've dropped my phones on hard ground or floors & they've never cracked or even scratched. I haven't used the music player yet as I've only had the V3i for 2 weeks & I am waiting for the memory card to arrive from eBay.

I quite like this Phone, I think it's a good phone for a younger girl. Hopefully I am getting a Nokia 7373. I've definitely grown out of this phone as it doesn't have good features, the memory is awful & you can't hold anymore than two songs. It's an alright phone if your young. If not, forget it. It has no MP3, & I'll be quite happy to get a Nokia & leave this phone. Like I said, I would recommend it to a young early teen.

I am saying this so you don't get disappointed. Oh, it comes with a USB cable.

I got this phone because of its large screen & initially I loved it but like so many others after I've had it a year it started going wrong. It turns itself off for no reason. The screen freezes. I am missing calls because of this. As the contract I am on is a yearly one I think I need to upgrade quickly.

My daughter had a V3i too & all the software on the phone became lost & T mobile wanted to charge to repair it even though the phone was less than 3 months & on contract.

Both of us have had trouble connecting to our computers with this phone too.

All in all, this phone looks lovely, has some brilliant features but doesn't last very long which is a real shame. I will not use a Motorola phone again : (.

I've had this phone for over a year now. It is what it is, a nice decent phone. I have not had ANY problems with it so far. It does everything I need for it to do. Mainly talk, but play a few games, or surf & text once in awhile. If that is all you need phone for, then this is the one. If you are spoilt & want to have high speed Internet access then go pay $600 for an iPhone, but don't complain about the Razor V3i. It's a good phone.

Do not listen to other bad reviews. I have had this phone for almost 1 year now. It is a great phone with a ton of great features. You can easily drag music from iTunes to your phone & store up to 100 songs when upgrading to a 1GB card. The camera & video quality is pretty good I would say it is average with a 1.3 megapixel camera. The design is a good flip feature but could use more colours besides a purplish silver colour. I got this phone a couple of years ago & only ever had 1 problem with it, & that was the screen. It would randomly go blank but then would restore to how it originally was. I don't think it was that ugly either. I was quite pleased with it overall when I got it. It was definitely better than I thought it would be. However, there is no space for a memory card so you can't put music on.

This phone was given to me from my dad & my first impressions were very promising. I loved the design & the usability, however I don't think there are enough features for it.

The software for the phone is fantastic! Miles better than the Sony Ericsson software I have at the moment. Even though my Sony Ericsson K750i has a lot more features, I prefer this phones design & usability.

If you want a phone that is easy to use go for this one!

I have had this phone for a year now & am considering getting a new one not due to any problems I had with it, just that personally I think it is a phone that dates quickly. It is very thin which is good to slip in your pocket, however it is very wide & I have trouble texting with one hand. It is a good looking phone but I was disappointed with its features. The camera isn't that clear & my video clips don't last longer than 10 seconds! I have also found the Bluetooth not brilliant.

One thing I find annoying is when I put the phone to my ear I hear a buzzing sound! My last bad point is its memory is rubbish that is one of the main reasons I am planning to get a new phone. Overall it is a nice phone, beautiful screen, & if you want a phone for its looks then go ahead & buy it.

Hey people I have ordered this phone from eBay for 52 pounds I would like to share few tips regarding the phone:

- Buy a SD memory card for extra storage.
- Buy a USB data cable (should come with software on a CD).

The card is so that you can store more music/videos/pictures. As far as I am aware you should be able to backup all your data to your computer via the cable so that you can free up space on the phone if anyone has any question about what I have just said I'll be more than happy to reply back. Kas.

I've had this phone for about 12 months now, & I have to say I have been very, very pleased with it. It's incredibly easy to use, & the texting (which I do a lot) is also very easy, but the buttons are a little too far away from each other (being very picky! ) as I was previously used to texting with Nokia phones, which have a closer button layout. The battery life is fine in my opinion. It doesn't create much hassle in my life charging it up! However I would say the camera could be a bit better, but seeing as though it's a very slim phone, I expect Motorola found it very hard getting a better camera in there! Now there is something that is annoying me quite a lot lately & its that my memory meter for my inbox texts has just been decreasing ever since the 6th month period (approx) into owning this phone. It used to hold 100 messages. & now I am down to an incredible 34 messages! I found this a huge disadvantage as I really wanted to keep my texts as they were from my girlfriend! :P. Another slight problem is that when I get photos sent to me (from my girlfriend's phone which is a Sony Ericsson k750? I think) via Bluetooth, the photos become very pixilated & look terrible! & we had a few problems with our Bluetooth transfers anyway, but that may just be our 2 phone's compatibility with each other. Overall this really is a great phone! I really have enjoyed owning this phone & the pros outweigh the cons! If you are EXTREMELY picky about your phones then you might find more problems than I did. Stylish, easy to use, & generally a very good phone.

Great design with standard features. But this phone has been a pain since day one. Very poor battery life in spite of buying a new battery & charger made no difference, very poor at catching reception in spite of network. Even in areas of good reception this phone took ages to get a signal. I will be glad to get rid of it.

I have had no problems whatsoever with this phone. I upgraded from the V3 because I wanted an MP3 player for my ring tones. Quite impressed with that, although doesn't hold too many songs, it's sufficient for my use. I love the feel of the casing & its keypad is very user friendly. Have had for 7 months & will keep for a while (touch wood) because it's everything I need in a phone. The camera is good too & on the slightly lower resolution setting, it takes loads of pictures which look pretty good.

I would defiantly recommend. Sounds like some people have had duff models, but you get that with everything electrical. Just take back & exchange, don't let that put you off this gorgeous phone.

I had a V3 before. Then changed to V3i I have had for a year now. I don't seem to have many problems. It's a phone for people who know about the feature. If you really understand the phone it's an easy phone to use.

I had 512k memory card & I find it sufficient for MP3 & photo storage. Camera is OK. You have to know how to adjust the camera setting to get good photos.

Now I am looking at another phone to buy. It's going to be either a Nokia 6300 or Motorola W510. I don't need 3G but I do need small & slim phones as I always leave the phone somewhere. Just for your information, I also have an xplore G18 PDA phone. Need I say more?

The phone is a lovely design but has so many faults:

- Ring tones don't correspond to settings I.e. Don't play what you have set them to play, just completely random tones.

- Messages are frequently sent as 2 pages when you can see that there are lots of characters remaining I.e. You have used less than 1 page worth.

- Service constantly interrupted - calls cut off, incredibly frustrating when out & about. Equally frustrating as I am on Vodafone's Stop the Clock but never manage to get more than a few minutes before I am cut off!

- I frequently get the 'emergency calls only' display so have to use my landline

- Terrible distortion or 'breaking up' making it difficult or impossible to talk & be heard. I usually have to ring back using my landline!

- Text, or digits start entering by themselves with no one touching the phone - weird or what? anyone else had this problem? When this happens I am unable to use the phone at all. I am currently awaiting the returns bag from Vodafone.

I have never had so many problems with a phone & technology is supposed to be getting better all the time! I've had to resort to using my SIM card with my old phone.

Love the design of this phone, really sleek. When I first bought it all my friends admired it.

But I have had nothing but problems. The number 4 key used to press on its own constantly. Got it fixed then the screen colours became distorted, but after a while it went back to normal.

Now it is impossible to use! It turns itself off for no reason what so ever, maybe if I press any key or sometimes I haven't even got to touch a key at all.

It's such a shame because I do love its design. It cost me £250 a decent amount to pay for a mobile I think. My son has a Samsung costing £90 & he has had no problems think I will just buy one of them now.

Future owners of V3i mobiles, please don't be taken in by its stylish exterior!

I have this phone for more than a year & a half. At first I was pleased with it. But easy problems start to appear:

- White screens/phone turns off.
- It takes long time to turn on.
- Video quality is poor.
- Camera lens & focus is just rubbish, almost every picture is blurred.
- The screen gets dirty very easy & it's hard to clean it properly.
- In order to change the memory card you have to open the phone.
- Via USB transfer - slow (I put some ringtones from my PC, it takes long minutes to transfer all data).
- Problems connecting the phone via Bluetooth with certain models especially Sony Ericsson.
- The final thing, my key pad stop working few days ago. Only the on/off key works - all others are dead.

So, forget about Motorola! Think Nokia!

I have just sold a K800i & about to sell my old XDA Exec because I now have a Motorola V3i. Why? Well with my K800i it was the latest & greatest, everybody raves about its features & how good it is but I came to the realisation that I just want a phone to be a phone, all the features mean squat if the actual phone is hard to use. Texting on the K800i really drove me mad, it would suggest words that I didn't want & I would often get stuck in it trying to choose a word rather than letting me move on. Texting on the XDA Exec was great, if you didn't mind pulling out a mini laptop which to be honest looked very nerdy. Texting on the V3i is a breeze, I hate texting using the standard phone keypad but this is simple, works well & choosing words is simple & doesn't get in the way. I am quite surprised at my speed with it now.

I don't miss the K800i features, in fact I hardly ever used the camera, MP3 or web surfing as I can do all that on proper equipment. There is just no point in a 3 mega pixel mobile camera, it's still sub par & the V3i 1 mega pixel camera captures the quick (throw away) shots if I ever need them.

It's so easy to use, looks good, fits in my jeans, doesn't cost an arm & a leg & voice clarity & volume are excellent. All the dealers said 'stay away from the V3' & I guess they are 'the experienced ones' but I decided to go against their judgment based on a couple of people I know that have stuck with a V3 for years. Now I have had mine a few days I have to agree. The V3i is a great phone if you just want a good phone & don't care about extras.

PS. My girlfriend also sold her K800i & got a pink V3 (not I) at the same time, she loves hers too.

- The video quality is poor. Finest resolution not recommended.

- The camera the slightest movement & the photo taken is blurred.

- It froze twice & I don't know how got to remove the battery & put it back.

- Phone has to be opened for memory card.

I bought this mobile early this year as birthday present for myself. So far I don't have any problem with it. It just that I am so happy using the features. The camera is good but it doesn't have a flash so not really advisable to use on dark places or poor of lightings. The video that I have recorded with this phone so far took me past thirty minutes of recording so it is good. Itunes has good features the sounds has a good effects with a tiny holes for the speakers, & it is really loud when you put it to the highest level. You just have to remember something, I read most of the people's comment but when you say that the screen turns total black that means you have to figure out how to set the following: click menu then go to:

: settings
: initial set-up
: backlight change to 60 seconds.

Then black screen will never be black again. OK?

It's only the little help I can do.

So far I really love my motorzrv3i, more fascinating than Nokia mobiles. When you say it is not a user-friendly-mobile, just try to explore it using your handy guide. Enjoy!

The fact that it is very light is also very good because you don't want a bag to be to heavy with a big phone in it. The only bad thing is that the memory is limited but you can get over this minority by linking it up to your computer & getting rid of things that you want to keep without loosing them.

How long can you video clip on the phone? Is the camera OK? Is there a sort of flash in that comes with the phone's camera?

I have had this phone for 2 weeks & it looks fab, but it keeps turning itself off. It started with the screen going white & having to put my security code in again, but has graduated to completely blacking out & not being able to switch it back on again sometimes for 10 minutes. The battery life is poor & the camera is worse than my old Motorola v360. Overall it's very disappointing as it looks gorgeous but it's just not robust.

Lovely phone, looks good & it's great with me. Some people hate, it's not compatible with them. Tough! But I absolutely love it! Had it for four months now & it never gets boring! Battery is wonderful, loud speaker is wow! MP3 player is addictive along with the games & the camera is 5 stars! This phone rocks!
