Very disappointed in this phone. Had a KRZR for years & it worked faultlessly. Changed to the RAZR V9 expecting great things. & hated it from the moment I took it out of the box. The design (like all of the Moto clamshells) is nice, but getting a little old-hat now, & the general quality of the finishes is poor. Operationally, & unlike my old KRZR, the keyboard is fiddly & only works when it feels like it, & the additional functions are a bit hit & miss. The camera especially is horrible! As a phone it misses the mark as well, its receiver is rather insensitive, the audio is tinny, & people I have spoken to on it complain that the noise-reduction is useless (wind noise especially causes major problems).
Motorola have really lost the plot with the V9.

This is my second Motorola model & the Motorola V9 is as bad as the V3x was. Same old problems. Will never buy another Motorola again, absolute junk. You just can't use the Motorola V9 as a phone, it's totally useless. I am going back to Nokia or Sony Ericsson.

Had this phone for 18 months with no problems at all, coming to the end of my contract so will change but I really love clamshells & they seem to be a thing of the past now! To be honest I use it to call & text only but it has been great.

As for features, there is no radio installed when this phone is bought.
& for the back cover of the phone, the rubber covering scrapes off very easily, when this happens, it is silver & shiny.
Other than this, the phone is perfect.

My mate has Motorala RAZR V9, she told me it is rubbish. Someone else that I know told me it only lets you have two songs. It sounds like the worst phone in the world, inside is boring, plain & dull.
1 out of 5.

Just came off a site where people were talking badly of the Motorola PEBL & said compared to this it was great. Only good thing about it is the camera (I have a camera I do not expect it to make calls). Battery useless, back keeps coming off & keypad does not do what you want half the time (just jams I have to delete & start again). Memory is not bad but I have a prepaid envelope from Vodafone & will return it to them. When they tell me there is nothing wrong with it I'll change phones & network.

It is very disappointing after the more modest but more reliable v3i. After just six months the phone became very unreliable in use. The screen kept alerting me to check my SIM, which works perfectly in other phones.
I returned the phone to my provider & the report I received was that it had suffered moisture damage. I keep the phone in a leather case & never use it in rain or leave it in the bathroom. The chunky feel gives of an air of reliability but this has proved erroneous. Nice camera, but since I need a reliable phone I would prefer it to be reliable to that end. It has not been the case & I have had an awful time trying to get a replacement.
Battery life is ludicrously short. It is a triumph of style over substance & I would not recommend it, despite high marks for features & design. Technology can surely get around vulnerability to corrosion with careful use.

This phone literally is bad! I regret accepting this phone as a gift to me. Motorola should learn something from Nokia or else FORGET PRODUCING NEW PHONES which cannot be used. Don't DARE TO BUY THIS PHONE.

I first thought that the phone was good. But I was wrong. I have a memory card of 1 GB. Then to my inbox which is having 63 messages only is showing that my memory is full. I did browse through the Motorola site but I got silly answers for my query. I would say my phone is terrible.

Love this phone, it looks great, but it has been back to 3 twice for repair in 3 months, the screen went black, & now the keypad does not work at all, 3 are useless & when you can finally get them to take the phone back for repair they always tell you it's your fault & not covered under warranty, so charge you to get it repaired. If it goes wrong again then I will be asking for a different phone.

I love clamshell phones, & have used Motorola's for years, so this was a natural progression for me. Feels solid, looks good, Battery life is not great, but my V600 was poor too, so not really surprised. Got it working with iSync on my iMac in no time, so copied all the stuff over from my U6 PEBL & was good to go.
I think it's fabulous, good stuff!

Just read some of the reviews on here, & can't believe some of the things people are saying about it! So, here's my honest review!
Firstly, the phone is gorgeous. The pictures do it no justice what so ever, in the flesh it's actually stunning. Its slim line & OK. So not very easy to open, but that's because its clamshell. The phone is sturdy! I can't understand why people are saying it's not! After having the V3i for 2 years, that was a lot less sturdy than the V9.
Motorola have got the touch screen perfect. For me, owning an iTouch makes having a touch screen on a phone not very attractive. But, this one is super. Responsive & I love the way you can read texts without opening the phone! That's really handy, especially if you don't really want to reply. Viewing pictures & video's on it is a dream! & even the music feature is something special. All that packed onto one small touch screen, come on, doesn't that deserve some credit? If you want to turn the vibration feature off, just go to settings, personalise, & then put it on silent. Someone was complaining about the keypad noise, well, I wonder what silent is for? !
Now onto the phone, wow. The keypad is fantastic, soft & steady, a pleasure to text on. The main screen is brilliant, bigger than the V3i's but not massively huge. The clamshell makes the phone look a dream, & its software certainly lives up to expectations.
I've had no problems with call dropping, the clear talk feature is fantastic & overall the phones software (using a Linux kernel, 100% better than windows I may add) is something else with its speed.
There are no cons to which I've discovered, possibly the Bluetooth is very temperamental but that could be me using it. The battery life isn't as good as the V3i but you can't put it down for that, look what processer it's running, & look at the two clear screens it has to run, cut it some slack. I am left handed & I've had no problems opening it with one hand! It feels like its petty little things many people review, just don't let that put you off, if you're that bothered, go & get a brick!
Owning an iPod, means that I really don't need a media centre, let's face it, nothing compares to iTunes, & if your that bothered, please, go & buy an iPod! The camera is 3.2, but let's face it, if you want a camera, buy one!
Overall, the V9 is fantastic. It's got the gorgeous looks, & the immense software. BUY ONE!

Hi All. I just bought my new V9. Can someone out there please help me?
The front LCD has this touch screen feature that keeps vibrating when our fingers or body comes in contact with it.
Albeit is a gentle vibration but its irritating the heck out of me & am sure it saps the battery life too.
Is there any way I can disable it. Please.

I am now on my forth phone since August. It has been back for repair four times & been replaced four times. It just keep dropping calls. Battery life is abysmal. I can have another phone on Vodafone next to it. Mine has no signal & the other has full signal. Battling with Vodafone to get a different phone. Do not buy.

This phone is a nightmare. Looks the business but is complete useless.
The phone constantly looses signal. I am on to my second one now. The first one I had was returned for repair because of connection failures. No fault was found with the phone, however I was given a replacement & I have exactly the same concern.
I have only rated it 5% for features. This may be a bit harsh, nevertheless its main feature is being a mobile phone which it is not.
Rubbish.

Hi All, love this phone, my first Moto phone & I was scared about changing from Nokia, but happy I made the move now.
Got on 3 for 12 months contract, best thing I ever done, actually better reception in my area on 3.
Lovely design, was scared I wouldn't have enough memory but memory slot is great & I can store everything I want to.
One little down side is the battery life, not as good a my previous Nokia but hey you can't have it all, & I do spend most of my day playing with my phone, texting, calls, games, music.
I would tell others to go & get this lovely phone, in my opinion the best phone I have had so far.
Bye Karen.

This is an absolutely fantastic phone! I bought it yesterday from Vodafone & I have to say I am very impressed with it.
Pros.
- the phone has everything you want, a 2MP camera, MP3, Bluetooth, even mobile TV, & loads of other features.
- It is so easy to use. Unlike the terrible Sony Ericsson K750i I previously had, the buttons are so comfortable & big so you don't press the wrong one.
- the design, I think, is its USP (unique selling point). It's so sleek & stylish & you really feel your getting a good quality phone. Most other phones nowadays feel cheap & delicate like the Nokia N95 & many other Sony Ericsson models.
- the camera on this phone is very handy & takes some very good quality pictures.
- One of the best features of the new Motorola phones is the touch sensitive touch screen on the front as you can play your music & view photos very easily instead of having to open the phone.
- the phone also has very good tones & sound. They don't get repetitive & annoying.
- the memory cards for the phone are so cheap & very good value for a money, a 2GB memory card on play site is only £5! Whereas a memory card for my Sony Ericsson was £20? Why is that?
Cons.
- There needs to be a bigger selection of ring tones. The brilliant V3 & V3i Motorola models always had a wide selection of tones.
- Why is there no software CD with this phone? Every other phone (with camera) I have bought has always come with a software CD.
- the battery life on the phone is not brilliant. All my other phones have lasted longer than this one but this is hardly a big issue. All it means is that you have a charge it more often!
- Although this is a very minor issue, I wish there was a short cut to bring up the camera faster. On the previous models (V3 & the V3i) the up arrow, when on the main screen, used to always bring up the camera, so you can take pictures quickly but with this phone that's not the case.
Overall this phone has got to be the best phone on the market at the moment & for only £90 who could grumble?
Forget the iPhone. Get the V9!

I really liked this phone when I got it as an upgrade & I still like the style, the screens & usability (though texting is hard to get used to as it's so sensitive) apart from the following.
The battery life is pants! Come on, you have to agree. I found that you have to charge it daily if you use it regularly throughout the day.
Secondly, the front LCD is so weak, mine broke 3 times in 2 months. I didn't drop it, I didn't smash it. I literally just had it in my bag or in my hand.
I ended up replacing it myself as T mobile refused to acknowledge it wasn't my fault. However I broke the ribbon cable in doing so & now have to get that replaced as well.
All in all my free upgrade has turned into a costly rubbish phone.
I am just sad that Motorola couldn't make this really attractive phone sturdier.

I have purchased V9 on Saturday 12 July 2008, I am very much happy to have this excellent, nice, beautiful & sleek phone. I really love this phone, very good multimedia, good camera, good movie, good sound & every this is nice, secondary display.
I always carry one Blackberry & a second phone, now a days I am using Blackberry 8820 with V9. Before this I was using Apple with BB 8310, before this I was using Nokia N95 with BB 8300 & this is a long story.
Please keep 2 phones, one BB & second one is camera phone like V9 which is really a master piece.

This phone looks the part, love it! It feels like you have a quality tool in your hand, perhaps a mobile for those who hate the cheep plastic feel. Camera is OK, but could be better (but my advice is to get a proper camera & enjoy your phone for what it is). Usability takes some getting used to because you have to open the case to use in full, but that's clamshell for you. Personally, I love it & it looks cool. Finally, the V9 fits in my top pocket.

I've had it for a year now & still am impressed with the phone performance with loud background noise. I am getting some dust accumulation underneath the exterior glass screen cover. The Motorola phone tools software syncs (via USB cable is good, Bluetooth synching has been problematic when using 2 computers) my MS Outlook info in Vista X64 & XP. The battery life is still adequate for one day of my use (40 minutes of talk, 15 minutes of Internet, 2 hours of MP3 listening via Bluetooth.) I've tried watching streaming video on the phone, but I perceive the resolution & screen size unsatisfactory for watching video.

All the features are very good but the fact that the battery is drained off so easily even when all the settings for Internet & Bluetooth as turned off. First phone had a faulty battery, having to charge every few hours. One 10min call to Vodafone to ask for replacement & lost a third of the battery life. Vodafone store did take off the 3G in case that was draining battery, & I had all the usual settings to conserve battery life, but that had not helped.
Second phone arrived yesterday 12th March. Battery seems OK but awful distortion on 4 out of 5 calls, again including 1 to Vodafone when it just died on me! So have asked for a different make & model. Given up on Motorola V9 which is a shame because I loved my old V3.

I received phone from Vodafone on Monday, great design, stylish & nice feel. The downside on design is the shiny casing picks up finger marks. I like the fact you can read messages without opening phone BUT battery life is atrocious. I have hardly used it for calls or texting & it needs charging after less than 24 hours. (I do have everything on minimum battery drain.) Also I cannot find how to turn off keypad tone & it is a very annoying loud click, could not discreetly text anyone without others hearing what you were doing. I am popping into Vodafone store today & if these issues cannot be resolved I will be asking for a change of phone.

I received this phone on the 29th Feb from Vodafone & was instantly taken with the design, excellent. Put the phone on charge & waited with anticipation. Initial impression in use was good but there it ended.
Copied contacts by Bluetooth & then went to set default numbers. I could not find any way to do this once the contact has been saved.
1st March charged phone again putting the short battery life down to my playing with the features & charged again 2nd March having made only a few voice calls. It needed charging again on 3rd March & is being exchanged today for a Nokia 6110.
I am assuming there is a fault with either the battery or the phones software which causes the battery to run down so quickly.

Tried this after the new PEBL U9 but really disappointed. I loved my old RAZR. Disgraceful battery life, 1 or 2 days, so big & heavy you need another bag to carry it & need to use 2 hands to text! It also has the new micro USB which means all your other kit is useless! It all works well enough but wouldn't sync to my PC (Vista) & couldn't find the software update online, what's the point? Again, like the PEBL, shows up every single fingerprint which is frustrating. I have gone back to using my old Krzr until a new Sony Ericsson arrives. Keeping fingers crossed.

Part 3: I too, have experienced the white noise from the earpiece speaker, once, while talking in the grocery store. The white noise only occurred when the caller spoke to me & it made it difficult to understand them. Everyone I talk to, when I use the handset, can hear me clearly in noisy environments, even that white noise day in the grocery store. I have been told by listeners that they can't hear me as well when I am on the speaker phone. One more gripe I have is that the phone can't multitask when I am talking to a caller. I couldn't access my contacts list to tell the caller a phone number.

Recently purchased two V9's for me & my wife. The phone is nice looking & easy to carry around, & everyone is always commenting on it with envy. After spending some time moving around the items I used most & setting the menu up, the phone is easy to get around in & easy to use. But audio quality on both phones suffers as well as reception. It is hard to speak with clients without constantly repeating the conversation while I am in a strong service area with full bars. The other end of the call gets a lot of white noise bursts while talking as well.
If you want a phone with WOW factor, V9 is it. If you don't intend to use the phone as a phone, sure, go for it. But I am looking for a phone, not a toy or something to flash around for everyone to say Oh! I need to be able to rely on my phone to make calls & receive them. The past two weeks for us have been frustrating with family medical emergencies, & we couldn't talk to doctors or family. We had to keep going back to our home phone to make calls. That includes both phones, not just hers or mine.

Art II: After calling Motorola for a working copy (MPT 4.54c, 1 computer user license) of Motorola Phone Tools, which I had to download via a special link they sent me, I finally could sync the RAZR 2 V9 with MS Outlook via Bluetooth; however, using a USB/micro USB cable connection I could only connect to the phone as a mass storage device. I think the user license should be for at least 2 computers (work & home), another annoying Motorola customer relations policy.
Download of MP3 files to the 2GB micro SD memory card I installed in the phone via the USB cable connection from PC to phone is very fast. On the Sony Ericsson W600 via the 'Fastport' USB cable it took about 15 minutes to download 175MB of data; whereas it takes about 5 minutes using a USB cable connection to the V9.
The speaker phone performance on the V9 for the phone user is very good. It's loud, & clear. I've used it rarely in phone conversations, & haven't tested the 'Cleartalk' performance.
Reviewer: Tyea - US

After 2 years with my Sony Ericsson W600 the user interface of the V9 is definitely less user friendly, & does not appear to be as thoroughly analyzed for user needs. I purchased the V9 as an upgrade through AT&T for $300, the same price as a 4GB iphone.
My primary criteria was a quad band phone, stereo Bluetooth 2.0 (A2DP, AVRCP), & most importantly, good microphone performance.
I was in the store testing the phone, & called my girlfriend while standing underneath a ceiling speaker playing moderately loud music. My girlfriend could hear the details in the tone of my voice clearly, with no background noise. I then walked outside to a busy 3 lane roadway & she could still hear me clearly. She said the voice quality is superior to any cell phones I called her with in the past, & insisted I buy it, so I did. I've called her from noisy environments several times since then, & I am amazed she says she can hear me clearly. So, yes, the 'Cleartalk' feature works.
I am hoping I can find a stereo-earbud style Bluetooth headset (with a FM radio receiver) that has the same voice quality performance. I have a Sony Ericsson DS970 that works ('name dial' works too) with the phone, but I miss having FM radio.
Having to pay extra for a headset & sychronization software is annoying (especially the software), when compared to what Sony Ericsson packages & support websites offer, which is almost feels like usury considering the relatively high price for this utilitarian featured phone.
I listen to about 1.5 hrs of podcasts a day, talk about 600 minutes & 5 MB of data per month. With this usage profile the battery is adequate for one full day, thus an extended battery option would be nice, as long as it didn't make the phone to thick (maybe an extra 2 or 3mm).
The HSDP network speed doesn't seem significantly faster than EDGE when using Opera Mini for Internet usage. Bluetooth file transfer speed seems the same as the W600 I had.
If you need a mobile phone that has excellent voice quality performance while using the handset in noisy environments, this phone is a good choice.

V9 is rubbish. It has clamshell design but its features are too old for our century. Motorola should try to improve on its camera, screen & some other features too.

It's a very practical all in one 3.5G mobile device, elegantly designed although very robust. Communication speed is amazing, it's a piece of art.

OK moto I got the V8 & its good had to wait long enough now I see you do same with the V9 hurry up & wait or are you trying to see how sales go I sure would request your moto authorized sales reps world wide to have more knowledge of your product try to buy one in china & see they do not know how to insert a battery in one. One reason went to Nokia N76 better prepared informative personnel.

This phone is great, & it's design is perfect, although I think that Motorola needs to improve the quality of the camera in its models.

Overall design was excellent & the colour was very special. Features wise it will be more simple & preferable if can add on 'dictionary function' like Nokia. If the colour screen can be improved to 16 mil instead of 262k will be more advantage. Among others brands I think so far V9 is the most slim 3G mobile phone flip phone.

The poster who said this phone is unusable is incorrect. Motorola phones are very easy to use. I am sorry that you haven't figured it out.
This phone will revitalize Motorola.

Very good features & design but since I don't have this phone I can't tell if is user friendly but I guess with the phone spec like my L6 it will be very easy to use. Two thumbs up to V9 & I wish I could have one.

This phone looks really good but from what I have noticed it is actually completely useless & is utterly hard to use. Sorry Motorola but this phone is bad. Only buy this phone if you want a phone that looks good but you can not use. I would rate this phone at 5/10 If it wasn't so good looking this would go down to a mere 2/10 the features are useless & it is impossible to use.
