I really love my V8 although the side keys are too delicate to manouever. However I have one problem. Whenever I attach the phone to the PC to download music, the phone appears as a camera & thus I am unable to download music. I tried it on my friend's laptop & it worked there. In fact even the tech who tried to fix it couldn't do so, but his phone appeared as a phone on my laptop.

So can anyone please help me out? How do I get the cell to appear as a cell & not as a Camera on the PC or laptop? Are there any setting one should change.

Would appreciate a reply. Thank you Priscilla.

I really want to love this phone, but despite many good features, I am having trouble.

The good.

- Solid & well made generally speaking.
- Clam shell (why has this design fallen out of favour, damn those sliders).
-the predictive text
- Camera colours.
-Large & clear interior screen.
- Pretty quick operation generally.

& the bad.

- TWICE I've encountered the exact same problem. My first V8 keyboard started to either lack response to presses or slightly stick (meaning you'd get, say, two letters or numbers when texting when you meant for only one) basically, typing texts had become a nightmare because you were checking what the phone was inputting. Also, if scrolling down the phone book, it would for no reason jump to phone book entries under letter T? This was sent away for repair by Carphone Warehouse (unlike my previous direct dealings with Vodafone where they just replaced a phone immediately if it was faulty, so beware of this if purchasing from CPW), but CPW failed to repair it properly & eventually they gave me a replacement. Now, three months later, my replacement is displaying the same error & again CPW have insisted on sending it away for repair. Two weeks from now I know they won't have repaired it, & I'll have to decide whether I want another replacement V8, or go to something else (assuming CPW have enough customer service no use to allow me to swap after two faulty units). I am a fairly heavy texter & I am presuming the keypad cannot take it! Not good, sorry.

I am a Moto fan, & would still like to be as I've found the phone intuitive, well made, & so on, but this is testing my patience. Let's hope, as I bought this phone straight from release from Moto, that if I do have to or decide to get another V8, that it works properly & they've fixed the keypad issue on later production models.

This is my third RAZR2 V8 in 8 months, since the previous two broke! Both had serious key pad issues making texting a nightmare, & the external screen on my 2nd one kept crashing & flickering from day one!

If this phone actually worked I would say that it was lovely, with plenty of text storage, intuitive feel & excellent predictive text. Alas, however, it just isn't reliable & constantly swapping mobiles is incredibly annoying & inconvenient. I think it's time to return to Nokia!

I am thinking of buying this phone but the one thing that put me off the V3 was the amount of message that could be kept or stored as it only held around 20! Could anyone let me know if this phone stores more messages like the Nokia's & Samsung's? Thanks.

It's an OK phone but I don't like I have had it for 3 months now the little thing on the side were you plug in the USB charger broke off 2 days after having it. It's too big for it takes most of the space in my pocket.

It just isn't the phone for me.

I think it is very clever as it can hold many MP3 songs also the camera is very useful because you can change the colours. It is better than my v3 phone overall as it is a small but clever phone.

I'VE ALWAYS HAD Motorola MOBILES & THIS IS ONE OF the BEST.

PERSONS HAVING PROBLEM WITH SOFTWARE, IT HAS 4 OPTIONS FOR CONNECTION & IS AUTOMATICALLY SET TO BE USED WITH WINDOWS MEDIA, CHANGE IT TO MODEM & IT WILL LOAD UP QUICKLY.

RINGTONES CAN BE PREVIEWED YOU NEED TO NAVIGATE AROUND the PHONE OPTIONS TO DO THIS, SORRY CAN'T REMEMBER AT THIS TIME HOW, BUT CAN BE DONE.

TO SAVE BATTERY LIFE USE the DIM BACKGROUND LIGHT TIMING OPTIONS, SWITCH OFF Bluetooth WHEN NOT IN USE, ETC. CAMERA & VIDEO BETTER THAN MOST OTHER PHONES. MUST AGREE THAT the SMALL USB CONNECTION IS A BIT OF A PAIN AS IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH MY OTHER MOTO PHONES WITH USB CONNECTIONS. WORKS WELL WITH BLUSTOOTH HEADPHONE & YOU CAN LISTEN TO MUSIC.

LOVE the TALKING PHONE OPTION WHICH IS ALSO GREAT WITH HEADPHONE USE. VERY PLEASED WITH THIS MOBILE.

I totally agree with Jen the charge cover is a nightmare, just tore mine off. Also micro USB connection is fiddly & is difficult to find compatible devices e.g. Headphones.

Although the phone looks good the screen is impossible to keep clean because the glossy coating attracts fingerprints like mad! It would have also been nice to have more facilities making use of the outer touch screen!

However I do find the phone very sturdy & reliable, the predictive text facility is the best & most accurate I have seen on a phone, even though the keys tend to stick.

Another plus point, playing music through the built in speaker is not only bearable but is very high quality & exceptionally loud for a phone!

Overall this phone is a good piece of kit & I would recommend it, however I would not buy it again.

This phone has a great feel & shine to it. It feels like quality because of its stainless steel body & is quite sturdy. It's an amazing phone with many features & easy to use menus. You don't have to read the manual since it is intuitive. If you're a light user, the phone has reasonable battery life but if you're constantly using it for whatever reason, the battery life will run down in a day. I can't seem to preview the preloaded ringtones (I could on the first day) but for some reason, it no longer allows me. However I can still change the tone so it is only a minor problem. Other than that, for £114 it's a quality buy with excellent call quality & loudspeaker! It can even read your messages for you.

I have had the Motorola RAZR v8 since the 1st February. The battery life is rubbish it turns its self off even with a full battery. To end calls I have had to take the battery out because it won't do it.

The battery cover is always falling off. Battery cover is down to the metal & looks horrible. I asked the shop if I could get a new battery cover but they just looked at me like I was stupid & said they can't get them what is the point. So after 6 weeks my phone is now getting repaired because I dropped it the buttons worked but not the screen.

This is the phone that I was told when I got it that it was unbreakable. I just hope it works properly when I get it back because I am stuck with it for another 16 months. It's good to look at but that is it.

Why did they change it so much, the Bluetooth is useless, especially with sat nav, can't turn off the reminder for a new message or a missed call. The charge cover is fiddly & has broken & can't even send a smiley face anymore! Am really disappointed with my upgrade from the V3i & won't be getting another!

Hi guys. I bought the RAZR V8 yesterday. I like it so far, but after reading all those reviews, I am reconsidering keeping it or not. I used to have a Nokia, but wanted to change it although it was an excellent phone (I still have it with me) my battery was dead today, which was a surprise to me. But I guess it won't hurt to try the 3 time charging & draining formula. He he.

The design is great, & there are some extra options in the phone, like keeping the text memory while texting a message & when you get a missed call, it makes an alarm sound to let you know that you have a missed call.

One thing that I didn't like is that in the options, you can't choose vibrate & ring at the same time, there is a vibrate & then ring option. Don't know if it is of me, but I didn't get so familiarised with my new phone yet.

Hope that the battery problem isn't that grave. I have to test it & get back to you:), patience is a virtue after all. Ha ha.

I've had the V8 for three weeks now & I am absolutely loving it. Excellent quality, sophisticated design & high resolution display. I found it a bit hard to adjust to the width at first but its slim makeup compensates. Found a site holding a contest & they're giving away the V8 as 2nd prize. Sorry that I wasn't able to hear about it until after I bought the phone.

Great design, nothing more. Buggy software, slow menus, UI customisation is limited comparing to earlier Motorola models, camera is not so good, no 3G, no external memory, weak battery. Useless huge external screen because of touch screen limited function (works with player only). Not able to customise side buttons anymore.

I've been using Motorola phones for years (V50, V66, T720, V525, V3) & now with v8 I am quite disappointed with new (Linux) software. I think this is the last Motorola phone I have.

I read all the other reviews with interest as I just switched from my trusted V3 to the new V8, & I must admit I was a bit worried I'd made the wrong choice, especially with the battery life. I've had my pretty new V8 for nearly 2 weeks now, & it really is lovely once you've got the hang of it. I knew my way around the V3 (& PEBL they're so similar) like the back of my hand, & I found the V8 a bit tricky to master in the beginning. It's not so such a challenge now, but I am still learning. The battery life thing isn't bothering me much. I think mine's lasting about 2 to 3 days currently which is OK I suppose, but I'll do a few more charges, drains before sticking it on the charger whenever. My V3 battery life was appalling, so I am grateful for small mercies! My only grumble is that the caller ID is almost illegible, being white on white with a very pale grey outline. A bit silly I think. Everything else is cool, & the phone itself feels reassuringly solid & sleek. Not fun & pink like my V3, but serious & slinky. Not that I won't plump for a pink one if Motorola brings one out! Go for it, this phone is nice.

You people are all being ridiculous. If a phone lasts two to three days, I would say that's pretty good. Also, If your phone is freezing, & running improperly within the first day. TAKE IT BACK! Don't complain. Most places will take a defective phone back within the first 15 days or something. & if you want a phone that's battery lasts an immensely long time, go on eBay & buy an ancient phone with a HUGE battery in it. What do you expect out of a tiny phone? I think the Moto RAZR is the most effective phone out there right now, most phones will only hold a charge for a day or so. & some of the features are amazing!

I have the luxury version of this phone & it is great. I took care to charge & drain the battery three times. It is on the third charge now & has been for a couple of days & it's still showing 3 bars. Made a 25 minute phone call today & still showing 3 bars. I'll drain it a few more times before I contemplate charging it midway.

Anyway, I have dropped 10% off usability as when editing contacts the cancel or delete keys sometimes cancel the whole editing function which is annoying. It took me ages to edit my contacts & I ended up saving my edits after every few letters. It needs a separate cancel & delete keys.

The luxury version comes with a Bluetooth headset (which I haven't used yet) & a nifty slip case which protects it from finger marks. The 2GB storage is more than enough for my pictures & music so that is a great feature. The 512 of the standard version is not enough for me.

Just bought this phone like 5 days ago, let me just say that I am an avid fan of mobile phones I keep changing. I've had a Nokia, Ericsson, Samsung & even Asus phones. This is the first time I had a Motorola. The reason I bought it because as of today, it is the prettiest phone I have seen. Also I was looking for a flip phone as to my last phone was a slide one & broke.

Overall it's quite good. Nothing still beats the customization availability of Nokia & Ericsson phones. But I grew tired of those brands & there is nothing new to it anymore.

V8 attracts fingerprints, It feels kind of hard getting used to texting, keypad so large & wide & clear button is so just above the call cancel button that I sometimes press the wrong button. But maybe I just still in an adjustment phase as this is my first Motorola phone.

Downloading more themes is a bit of a pain since I think you have to do something in the computer & all that blabber & tweaking in order for it to work. I wouldn't resolve to that as it may affect or destroy the linux system.

Battery is the worse battery I ever had but I think it's still not that bad. Lasts 2 days average for me. I am waiting for it to last 3 days as I still following the 3 drain & charge cycles. I will buy a car charger for this one though I think. Have to look for one though as I haven't seen any yet. Heavy mobile phone users would really hate this battery.

Features are cute, normal, nothing extraordinary. I just like that you can read the text from the external screen. But from like others had said, you can't view the name if you missed a call. You have to open the phone. I also noticed that the vibrate is weaker. I can barely feel it on my pocket vibrating unless I hold it tight against my thigh.

Software seems stable but still that's not sure as I only got it 4 to 5 days ago. I would recommend this phone to anyone who gives more to design than what it can do. Also to those who are not heavy users as the battery would just make you crazy. I won't exchange my phone anytime soon though. I am happy with this one as long as I have a car charger bought =D.

Resolution is nice as well & an improvement from the previous models. Menu is OK. I had no problems finding any setup except the MMS one. I don't & can't seem to find MMS settings & therefore unable to receive & send MMS pictures or sounds.

First of all, those people who are having trouble with the MMS settings should go to phone firstsection of the hellomoto website & they will be able to receive the settings via a text message from Motorola.

When you get the message, don't forget to INSTALL the settings (from OPTIONS). I am with O2, & had to set my phone up myself for MMS.
My main gripe with this handset is that when the phone receives a call, the external screen shows the Callers ID, but Motorola decided to use a WHITE (outlined font) on a WHITE background. This makes it really difficult to see who is calling, (impossible in sunlight), & it is impossible to change.

Am awaiting my new V8 up-grade, but having now read many reviews I am beginning to wonder have I made the correct choice? Battery life, funny txting methods, tone/vibrating settings etc. My old Nokia 'builders' phone was / is a solid chunky yet perfectly good & easy phone to use. My reason for up grade was to reduce my monthly bills on a new tariff; a new phone up grade was available free of charge. Let's hope it lives up to the salesman pitch!

PS - modern batteries of the type now used in phones do, as many of the reviewers here have said, need at least 3 drain/full charges to set & activate the battery architecture. We will see!

But I noticed that here v8 is not a Smartphone, I wondering why? & v8 has a highest speed CPU with 500MHZ, this is higher than Nokia' n95 etc.

So can anybody tell me if there are do different between China & UK?

I've only had a 10 minute play with this phone in a shop. But seriously, this phone is ugly as sin! The shop assistant was desperately trying to sell this phone as 'we've got loads of these, they're not selling'.

The feel of the keypad is poor in my opinion, neither flat & sleek nor raised & functional.
Again the sleek feel is ruined but a big unnecessary blob of chrome in the hinge joint.
Overall though I think the phone just isn't designed well. I owned the RAZR V3 which was a great phone in its day. This new offering just seems clunky & cheap even though it's not.

But on the other hand, some great features.

My first phone was a Motorola house brick of 10 years ago of the 1997 vintage, so the new V8 is about the most flashly looking phone I have laid my eyes on.

Design with 5% off the design for the finger print magnet screens which has made my shirt & phone the best of friends in trying to keep it clean.

Features with 10% off the features for the camera & video which could be a bit better considering other standard software & hardware available on competitors phones.

Usability with 30% this is my only real grumble is the Battery I think if they could make a solar powered V8 phone I would be set.

Motorola really need to get their act together with their battery technology as they are being left for dead in the market place. If this was fixed I would rate this phone as excellent.

I have been searching for a while for a nice phone & this one jumped out at me. It is slightly heavier than most new phones, but your hand doesn't exactly drop off holding it.
Like most peoples' reviews, my battery also drains rather quickly, & that is not playing music or talking on it constantly. It is through being left on & texting. Even with the battery save on, it still runs down.

Nevertheless I maintain for a Motorola (I usually do buy Samsung mobiles), this is a pretty good phone. With the touch screen, the ability to reply to a text without even opening it. The sleek smartness of it. You can add & change the main menu & the icons. The wap is faster than any pervious phone I have used.

The only main problem is the battery, & the fact there is no message alert tones built in & not many pre-set ring tones or wallpapers! Trivial stuff really compared to all this phone can do!

For the customers having problems with the battery. I had to learn this the hard way (phone being dead at the most inopportune times) but learned it nevertheless. It is extremely important for your battery (on a new phone) to go through at least 3 fully charge fully drained cycles. It has something to do with the ultimate longevity of the battery & battery.

Sometimes this may not be possible if you have only one mobile phone. I was able to switch between this & my other Motorola. So it has to fully charge (past the time when the display reads charge complete) & then fully drain at least three times. Charging between the complete cycles doesn't help.

First of all let me say the phone is very well styled & designed, it looks good & works beautifully especially when receiving texts which is just read at the touch of an external button. Features are good & user friendly however the texting is a bit hit & miss, especially when moving the cursor around it will add a random letter in the middle of your texts. Adding words to the dictionary is difficult too.

The major gripe with this phone is the battery life, it requires CONSTANT charging & I do mean constant charging. I charge the phone fully overnight, listen to music on your way to work plus send a few texts & the phone is flat by 5pm. I missed a really important call as I stayed out the night before on a night out & the next morning by 9am it was flat so I was without a phone for the whole of the next day.

It's just a massive shame, this is one of the best phones on the market for a long time but Motorola need to sort out there batteries if they stand any chance of staying alive in the current market. All that money on the design & facilities but let down by the simple fact that it won't stay on long enough to be used. Back to the shop to swap for a Sony Ericsson.

20% off features for some really irritating ones especially on using the phonebook & messages, names appear on messages, but only phone numbers appear on sms! What's the trick there?

20% off for usability, especially on the battery life. Frustratingly enough I got a charger at h.ome, one in the office, & looking for one in the car. It dies in the most crucial moments where you really need the phone (we all need our phones all the time even when we are asleep :).

I have always believed in the quality of Motorola after using this product for years. I have had V55, V620, V3 & z8 in the past. The worst experience I have had is with the z8 as had so many problems with the software. Changed it 2 x already.

I've always been a big fan of Motorola, but the changes in operating system on this phone are for the worse. This phone is less customisable than previous Motorola models, with only three skins to choose from, non-customisable main screen soft keys, & a very odd approach to personalising your wallpaper/skin etc. It is now extremely fiddly to do whereas previously it only took a few clicks.

The only major problem with this handset is the battery life. After a full overnight charge, & with normal daily usage, the battery will not last you a full day. It usually starts losing charge by around 5pm.

The handset itself is attractive & pleasant to use, but the inbuilt skins are not particularly easy on the eye. The phone lacks a memory card, & will not let you rename a picture file without corrupting the image & making it un viewable - be very careful here! I would expect a lot more from Motorola, as these are all basic errors that should have been dealt with at the testing stage.

Had the phone almost a week & love it. The design is great, although no longer original & ground breaking, as it was in its predecessor. There are a lot of complaints about the outer screen just being a gimmick, but I've found it genuinely useful, particularly for reading texts. The sound is great, none of the tinny rubbish so often present in mobiles. I would like it to have more range of volume choices though, as the first step is immediately very loud, & each one is a big jump. Some halfway points would be nice.

The camera is quite poor in any environment other than natural sunlight, & I wish it came with a radio. As some others have mentioned, texting feels very difficult because the keys are so large, but the system itself is very good, with little slowdown at all. The revamped menu is probably the most notable improvement over previous Motorola's, & has so far worked flawlessly.

Overall, it's a good phone that covers all the bases well. You do wish it had a little more in the way of features, but it is well designed both physically & in the software. Well worth getting.

I have had this phone a week now & overall I am generally pleased with it. Amazing design that beats many currently on the market. I loved my old v3i & decided upon this one however the battery life is SHOCKING! A lot of people agree that it lasts less than a day on average. I can talk for about 30 minutes & half the battery life is gone, that's it! The camera is OK, but just disappointed that Motorola haven't gone above 2 megapixels. However it is in keeping with the phones sleek design!

Texting has been made so much harder than the old v3 & generally to anyone who will be using this phone! It does incorporate many interesting features though & given time you will be able to use the phone much more effectively as at first it's a pain in the Sony Ericsson!

Overall I do think it's a worthwhile purchase or worthy upgrade! DEFINATELY the SMARTEST PHONE OUT THERE! & not as popular as the N95 or Samsungs which everyone has & are getting a bit boring! LOL!

Had the phone for just under a week & still undecided. The battery life is non existent on the phone although I have noticed that is the same with all the Motorola's I have had before this one.

it took me days to find everything, it seems to me that they have tried making it as complicated as possible & the tone options are two cheerful, especially in the morning encouraging a broken phone :)

The phone is so delicate, wouldn't recommend if you are a clumsy dropper like me. It has taken three hits so far though & managed to withstand major injury so far, only dints & scratches, hate to wonder how it will look by the end of my 18 month contract LOL but be warned the phone is so delicate that I am counting down the days till I break it.

Other than that the phone is brill, I love the design n I can hear it ringing a mile away.

Although seems a pointless waste of time to have a touch screen for music on the external screen & for everything else you have to press the side buttons, especially if your like me & have an ipod rather than music on your phone because you feel like you missing out on what is half the phones value in technology by not using the music touch screen. :)

OK so received this phone last Friday to be exact. Was due for an upgrade & could not decide between either the V8 or the G600. Decided on the V8 because I already had the V3i which I loved & I like the little quirky features you get with Motorola phones (previously had the V600).

Anyway in my opinion Motorola have really changed their individual settings. May as well be a Sony Ericsson phone I was dealing with as there is very little familiarity. You can't change the menu settings & the soft keys like on previous models & the select key is the opposite way round so I am constantly cancelling instead of selecting applications. The texting is really weird & takes some getting used to as one again same keys but different functions e.g. When texting on the V3i if you have the setting on predictive text the word you want appears before you finish typing & you just press the up arrow key to select. If you do this on the V8 it changes the word completely. You can't see a selection of words at the bottom of the screen like before which I really liked.

You can't set your alarm to just vibrate, you have to select a tone which I hate because at six in the morning I prefer other less intrusive methods of waking up like such as the vibrate mode as before on the V3i. Vibrate option is also not as powerful as before. They have taken the little animations you could add to your text like 'flirt' 'kiss' etc.

Didn't realise till someone said it but you can't check a missed call on the external display but you can read a whole text. How weird is that? On the previous model you could check & scroll through your missed call list on the external display. & annoyingly if the same number calls you X amount of times, it lists the same name about 50 times which is which is stopped going for Samsungs & stuck with the Motorola now they do it.

I am still getting use to the phone & discovering new stuff but I wished they had kept the old layout & added more. Really disappointed I can't alter my menu keys & smart keys like previously. Also feels a lot heavier. I also HAD to go through the manual as it was slightly tricky to find where everything was now hidden.

On the plus side really good camera, Bluetooth works a lot faster now. Loads of space & lots of extra features. Talking phone (can get your text read out to you) & you could record your call conversations as well which is a big plus. It's definitely a good phone but as a Motorola fan I was just disappointed they had changed so much of their own individual design. Despite the niggles, that annoy me I would still recommend the phone. Just thought I would give a balanced view as I prefer to read these types of user reviews as opposed to the bog standard ones that tell you what the phone has & can do.
