Motorola PEBL Review

The PEBL mobile phone is designed to incorporate the smooth curves & organic lines of nature itself. There are no harsh edges in the design of the Motorola PEBL & it comes with a one touch easy to open glide mechanism. The phone comes in a slate grey colour which really enhances the feel of nature. The PEBL includes many user friendly features which include a voice activated command feature which allows the user to make calls, use the camera, access voicemail & use redial by simply instructing the phone by voice only. All the user needs to do is to say the word for a certain command & the PEBL will make it all happen.

The PEBL comes with a photo phonebook & picture caller ID features which allows the user to select a photo or image & assign it to any contact in their phonebook. When a contact makes an incoming call, the PEBL will display the photo or image that the user has assigned to them. The user can have so much fun when assigning the photo especially if they put a monkey photo assigned to their boss.

The user can capture all of those special moments with the MPEG4 digital video recording feature & the high quality zoom really adds to the perfect recording. To operate the video recorder the user needs to press the capture key once to start & then press it once more to stop recording. Video recording could not be any easier & the quality is amasing with the Motorola PEBL.

Motorola PEBL Mobile Phone Front View
Motorola PEBL Mobile Phone Open View
Motorola PEBL Mobile Phone Part Open View

The PEBL comes complete with a fully integrated VGA digital camera which includes a light for the duller weather conditions. The user only needs to use the capture key to operate the camera & the user can also send the photos to friends via a multimedia message service (MMS). The PEBL makes taking & sending a photo very simple.

The internal colour screen allows the user to see their photos & video recording in perfectly clear colour. The external screen indicates the time with a very sleek & stylish looking clock face.

The built-in Bluetooth® functionality makes it possible for the user to talk on a wireless headset & to connect up with their PC as long as it has a Mac OS version 10.3.6 or later, Windows 2000 or Windows XP as a platform.

Believe it or not, I just got this phone in the first half of 2008! This phone is rock solid, & I've dropped it, threw it against walls (when I was angry), splashed it, & it just keeps on going, without a scratch. The feel of the phone is amazing, & it fits perfectly in your pocket. I always see people eyeing it when I take it out & flip it open, & it's very popular with my friends. I think I'll be using it for a few more years, even though there are now other models with better cameras & memory card slots, etc. However this is unbeatable, an amazing phone, good one Motorola!

I've had this phone for a long time now & I have to say, it has been one of the best phones I have had, although it does have its flaws. The design is great, it's small & smooth & fits easily in your pocket. It's easy to use & the Bluetooth works wonders with my Mac & my car. It has been dropped more times than I can remember & I even fell in the sea with it in my pocket (don't ask!) & it still works! Yes the camera is a bit rubbish & there is no flash though I don't really use the camera that much anyway. The memory isn't great but again I have only got a few pictures on mine & a couple of downloaded ringtones & wallpapers & it does me fine. So far the magnets have worked perfectly, though I've heard that they eventually go a bit weak but in the end everything dies. With what I use/need a mobile for & the amount of pain I've put it through, this phone has been great & I have never really had a problem with Motorola (this being my third Motorola phone) & I think this phones replacement will be one too!

I love my phone! I've had it for a year & a half, & even though I've dropped it loads of times, its only got a few scratches on it. All my friends are addicted to opening the flap, but a few months ago it started making noises when I opened it from the magnets getting scratched, I think.

The only thing I don't like about my phone is that it doesn't have very much memory, including deleting a few themes it has 6394kb, enough to hold 2 songs or ringtones & about 20 pictures. You can't have a memory card in it either.

Also the camera isn't that good, especially in the dark, but you don't need a good camera really.

I don't know whether it's just my phone, but I can't get onto the web browser which I only found out when I had to get onto it to download a game I bought. Still haven't got the game unfortunately.

Overall, a really good phone & worth it!

I have had this phone off a friend cheap & was delighted with its appearance. But after two days the keypad is putting in digits by itself uncontrollably, the menus don't work & it freezes all the time. The volume control has its own mind & the control of it is terrible. Don't buy this phone, get a piece of string & two tin cans before choosing this. The keypad is ambiguous & the digits are hard to understand makes dialling a very, very long chore if you don't give up trying. Biggest load of rubbish I have ever had, it is useless piece of junk!

I have had this particular model for about over a year & a half now, it is has a lovely design & the push to flip open feature is really nice. There are of course some flaws with it, the main one is even though the battery appears full it may be near empty & just switch off entirely unto you charge it up again. It could do with a larger memory space & it would be nice to have a flash option when taking pictures.

However I do like being able to add my own music for the ring tone & text message alert, as an alarm in the morning I would recommend the siren to it max volume that would wake anything up. Being able to assign picture to people in my contact book is a fun feature & the download java games are really fun, I shall miss playing monopoly.

But because of the battery constantly even more now I am forced to upgrade to the Samsung G600 by tomorrow.

To sum up this phone has a really great sleek design, the features are not bad at all but for practicality or as a functional tool. Well I have seen more reliable models & I would strongly recommend carrying the phone's plug in charger where ever you go if you are really considering buying this model.

This phone is easy to use, has a good battery life, & looks great! Also I love how the phone opens. The thing I hate most about this phone is, how it does not have a flash & has a really bad memory, you can only store one song if you want pictures on it too.

Also the magnets can wear so the phone does not shut although I have had mine for a year, & it hasn't happened, it has to many of my friends but I have to admit Mine is starting to wear.

So if you are not planning on storing many songs, videos & pictures this phone is great! But if not then it might not be the best one to buy.

I've now had this phone for over a year & whilst the design is great & it slips into a pocket easily, I would not by another.

I don't like the predictive text so have switched that off. The speaker phone is not good; I can hear my caller but the callers have difficulty hearing me! It would be good if it came with a headset for in-car travel.

Battery doesn't last long. If I don't answer the call quickly it either goes to voicemail (if I've got it on) or just stops ringing.

Really frustrating.

What a disappointment. I have had this phone for about a year now & I am fed up. There is no memory, there isn't a good camera, there isn't enough message storage space & it is easily scratched, the list is endless.

The phone is held shut by 2 magnets, these lose their magnetisation after around 6 months & are 30 pounds to replace.

There is no memory card slot, its heavy, you can only store one song, one 20 second video & 10 pictures but no games messages or contacts!

The design is good but the magnets weren't! The battery won't keep its charge. It cuts out, it's flimsy, the buttons are all over the place, it's hard to text because of this & there is NO light for pictures! It's just awful!

See it goes on & on & on! So buy one if you like but I wouldn't!

I have had this phone for about 11 month, & I cannot wait 4 weeks until I get the Samsung J600. Though this phone looks super stylish (I got it in pink) but it is average on the inside. For a start it has a VGA camera, that's just another word for rubbish. VGA is a 0.3MP & you have to keep your phone REALLY still for 3 to 4 seconds or the picture goes blurry. The video recording is even worse than the camera, only lasts 30 seconds, & the voice recording, I don't want to even go there. It has hardly any memory, it can hold ONE song! & about 10 pictures! There is loads more bad points! The good point is that this is a really trendy looking phone, & it is great for people who like trendy things.

All my friends are saying like I have got this new ringtone & I say can I get it & they say yes but when they try I don't have enough kb so they say sorry & walk off. The next day everybody has that ringtone it is annoying. I am not saying it is a bad phone but apart from that nothing is wrong with it. It doesn't have a memory card slot to top up your memory even though it's memory is poor. So if you would like to get one make sure your OK with not having good music!

If you're a little stressed it makes a great little worry stone. I don't understand why people complain about lack of memory, MP3 etc. Check out these things before you buy it! Anyway, I am kinda glad there are a lot of complaints about the PEBL, as I have yet to meet someone who owns one. Which makes my little phone unique & the centre of attention. PEBL rocks. I highly recommend this phone to everybody. It has a fine camera & its charging is sooo good. It charges really quickly & is the best I ever had. I mean yeah it does have not much memory but who needs to keep 89 messages on it anyway!? I have only got 6 so that means I can have about 50 photos & 10 3 minutes long videos. I only put 5% in the features box as there was no lower.

This phone is the worst I have ever had, that's saying a lot as my first ever was a Phillips savvy! What a brick, anyhow. I loved the look of this phone, I fell in love with it & I had it with my contract. Yet, it has completely no memory at all, the camera is poor & generally all the features are awful, it was meant to be an upgrade of the Motorola v635, but even that had a memory card in it. There is no slot in the PEBL for added memory, & after about 89 messages, 5 photos & a 20 second video squeezed into it, it was jam packed. If you're after a stylish flip phone to do just that, phone, then it's perfect. But if you want a little extra in you're phone, go for something with more memory, a sharper camera, & better features.

I now own a Nokia 6233. & it's perfect.

It has a cool outlook & average functioning but apart from that. HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED. First of all, it had a charging problem in the first month. I got that fixed, then the next month the voice thing broke: & I can only hear people by putting it on speakers (generally a Motorola problem, a number of my friends that use Motorola's have had the same problem). I got it fixed but I just gave up using it & start using my old Nokia phone. Motorola advertises this phone as nice in design with cool technology. But really, the cameras not great either. So I only use the text messaging (which is not as convenient as Nokias) & calling.

Fell in love with the design of this phone & purchased it in Mar. 2006. On average I get a new phone once a year or so, but by Sept. I was already itching to get a new phone. Other than the looks & the slide/open feature of this phone, there really aren't many other redeeming qualities. It was constantly fingerprinted (& no, I am not some grubby Canadian redneck. LOL) & if the phone sustained a MINOR fall it would relegate itself to turning off & on by itself for the next 24 hours. I was also displeased with Moto's interface & menu system. Boring & not very intuitive at all. It's now Jan 2007 & I've had my Sony Ericsson w810i for a couple of weeks & so far. LOVE it! Better menus, interface & functions &. It's just a. Fun phone.

Just bought new rusty red PEBL phone, lovely phone, the software disk you get with the phone gives you the option of cropping pieces of your favorite track from CD/MP3 etc to use as ringtones. Let's face it, it only takes 2 minutes to swap over a song from computer to phone so you don't get bored with your ringtone. I also like the fact you can use your own mp3s as message tones too, unlike most Samsungs. The picture quality is so clear & I was surprised how clear the pictures were in dark as well after switching it to night mode. The design is nice, especially the shiny keypad, although I am always polishing my fingerprints off it. I bought it on Orange network which was a bit rubbish cos they restrict most of the phones capabilities (time to get it unlocked LOL) Overall, I like it & it will be with me for a while. Especially cos my missus bought me it so I have no choice really.

Doesn't have a lot of memory, but not really a problem for me. It is so easy to use. Voice activation is fun too. Great shape, smooth & feels really good to hold. Only problem is not knowing what cool colour to choose from. I Love the PEBL.

I will probably want to store lots of photos or videos & I need some useful advice because I don't know whether to buy it or not. I need to know is the look of it & feel of it overtaking the frustration of not having much memory? It's really difficult to decide when there are so many massively contradictory opinions. Help!

I wanted a phone that made phone calls & came in a simple & tactile design. This phone is what I was after & does all that I need from a phone.

- The finish is grippy & well thought out.
- The key pad is great for my manly fat fingers.
- It has a great screen & the flip mech is nice.
- The speaker has a good range & the whole thing feels nice in your hand.
- You could almost skim it across a pond just like a pebble it feels that good.
- If I wanted to take great pictures I would use my Olympus.
- If I wanted music I would use my Sony MP3 player.
- This phone is excellent.
- Sure it ain't a posers phone.
- Sure it wont store loads of videos & pictures.
- Sure it is no playstation or xbox.

But be assured it is a telephone for making telephone calls. And it does it as you would expect it to. This phone is definitely worth buying.

I rest my case.

The phone looks great, very stylish. The phone has major problems with usability though. The speaker & the microphone on the handset do not work properly. It has a saving grace having an external speaker though. For a phone that you can't make calls on properly is not a very good thing.

This phone has been built all around its eye catching appearance, yes I agree it has got an appeal to it that's what made me look at the reviews & that is what made me want one. Big but, when you look at it closer it has a lack of features & heaps of appeal. It has no MP3 player which seems very strange for such a new model phone. A little disappointing but I think it will be very popular as it has got something very unique about it, the pebble like design. It will be a big seller.

The Motorola Pebl seriously needs some more memory. This is a common problem with all the Motorola phones I have used, maybe I am just choosing the wrong models or wanting to save too much information. Motorola want to look at the other top selling mobile phone manufactures as they seem to have more memory or an expandable memory slot on most of their newer model phones. I have always got three mobiles with me at any one time & would say I can give a fair judgment of mobile phones. I personally feel that Motorola has a real issue when it comes to memory or lack of it.
