Motorola A780 Review

The Motorola A780 is a beautiful touch screen mobile phone that comes with great technology. The phone has a clam shell opening system but the user can operate & view the phone in the closed position. Externally the phone has a viewing window that allows the user to see the internal touch screen & a standard number keypad with navigation buttons. Internally the Motorola A780 has a very clear TFT touch screen which provides a 240 x 320 pixel screen resolution. The touch screen comes complete with a pen which fits neatly into the side of the handset. The A780 weighs 130 grams & the overall size of the phone is 107 x 54 x 24 mm which provides a compact & neat feeling handset. The Motorola A780 comes with a useful satellite navigation feature which also comes on the Motorola MPx220 SmartPhone.

The A780 comes with Bluetooth® wireless technology which allows the user to connect wirelessly to any compatible device. The user can connect using a mini USB connection or CE bus connectivity. The phone comes with built in GPS which provides the user with a satellite navigation tool which will ensure that the user will never get lost. The user may choice to add Co Pilot™ feature which is a live voice guided navigation feature which is available in either a European or USA mapping system to their Motorola A780. The user can rest assure that the Motorola A780 will work worldwide as it comes with quad band network technology which will switch between GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800 & GSM 1900 bands automatically. The user can access the Internet & view full Internet site on the HTML browser & on the beautiful & big touch screen display.

The built in 1.3 megapixel camera allows the user to snap away to their hearts content as the phone can store all of the users snaps on the 48 Mbytes of Internal memory which is expandable & allows the user to add 512 Mbytes of Transflash™ memory using a memory card feature. The phone can capture, play & download video recordings which can be watched on the phones screen.

The phone comes with many messaging features which include text messaging, multimedia messaging & email. The email service provides Pop3, SMTP & IMAP4 formats. The user can view documents in Office & PDF files with the use of the document viewer on the A780. The multimedia messaging service allows the user to send photo or video recording with text & sound to any multimedia compatible device. The MOTOSYNC™ feature provides the user with a wireless synchronisation to their Outlook® email account, to their contacts & with their calendar.

The integrated music features on the Motorola A780 really kicks some life into the phone with the MP3 & RealPlayer. The sound quality is clear & the user can play their favourite music as loud as they desire. The user can select ringtones & alerts tones to suit their personal taste. The Motorola A780 comes with J2ME™ games which provides a good gaming experience & the user can download games of their choice. The phone comes with a handsfree speaker phone feature which allows the user to have a conversation without having to hold the handset as the conversation takes place over the phones speakers.

Great phone. Have had this since February 2006 now. Is the first mobile phone I ever bought with my own first salary. So it's even more special to me. I faced a few problems though, with the magnetic cover that was given to me with it. Bring the magnet close to the phone screen & you could see some fluctuation. Not the fault of the phone though. I changed the cover, simply. It's been with me since then. Happy smart & going. Yes I would say the screen colours have reduced a bit though. So after clicking photos, they do not appear very bright on the screen. Transfer them to your laptop & there you are. All colours come up, bright & clear. Very happy to have this now.

Great phone only thing I wish this phone had is WLAN (Wi Fi) & infra-red but this is a very nice little device worth every penny & it will do the job without freezing unlike a lot of other smart phones & & with the Linux OS you are sure to get the job done properly very nice & compact perfect for business user but power wise you need to charge this phone almost daily not a good choice for power users but overall great phone very user friendly easy to use great for businesses.

Brilliant, the best PHONE ever. Except that it seems to auto redial the last number at random intervals for no apparent reason, even when the keypad is locked. A bit frustrating but the phone packs a lot of brilliantly designed features & the interface is so easy & intuitive to use. Totally recommended.

Hi, Motorola A780 has built-in GPS, if so, any clue which navigation program other than co-pilot will work with Linux (Europe)? Program, would it be possible to install it alongside with something like tomtom any good site with software for that phone? Please put me out of my misery either way.

I have been using this phone since Sept 2005. So it's been around with me for a year now & I find this phone simply amazing. It has got all the features you expect from a PDA Phone (except WLAN) & the Linux OS is amazing. It has never freezed till date. Another good thing about this Smartphone is that it allows you to make & receive calls without opening the flap which allows you to make calls (like a normal phone) even while driving. Install Opera mini browser & you are all set to browse any website. The Email client is also decent & also MOTO-sync.

I travel a lot & I have got a lot of good stares in the tube @ London, Malls in Kuala Lumpur & all across India.

I always was a Nokia user & used to think Nokia was da best n user friendly handset's in da world. I had owned a lot of Nokia handsets from da Nokia 3310 to da Nokia 3230. The new models from da ngage qd, 6630 to da 3230 always used to hang, after a lot of r&d I went in for da Motorola A780, I fell in love with it. Da linux software was as user friendly as da Nokia phones n never hanged even once even while multitasking. I brought the Motorola A780 phone in may 2006, it got robbed in the train in July 2006. Without a thought a brought the same handset the other day. What more can I say.

I am a long time user of the Motorola A780 & it was quite expensive a year ago but it was worth every last penny. I believe you can get the A780 for next to nothing at the moment & it would be a great buy for all users. The phone itself is very workable & the flip action doesn't need to be opened to make a call, receive a call & to access the phone book. The touch screen is amasing & the finishing touches to this phone are what makes it so worth getting. The memory is enough for storing approximately 8 - 10 MP3 tracks & the battery has not failed me in any way. I search the Web on my phone & email continuously & it is all good on the A780. I'm due a new phone now but would very highly recommend this phone to all of you out there that what something a little different & very capable.

Motorola A780 is a A1 phone & a very speedy little device. Downloading is quicker than I thought, Internet is easy than I thought & software is good, no screen freezing on my phone. My old phone was forever freezing & displaying a nasty white, blank screen, but the A780 is top quality.
