Although this phone's designed amazingly & looks good, it's got some of the most useless features you will ever encounter.

A DJ system, which lets you put people yelling Check it out & scratching over the top of your music & a music maker where all the instruments sound the same. My greatest achievement was Mary Had a Little Lamb.

Plus it's got terrible reception, half of the time texts come through hours (occasionally days) after they're sent, & texts won't send. Also (it may just be mine) the video call feature doesn't work.

It also has this annoying habit of telling you it's sent something when in fact it hasn't. This can be remedied by switching it off & on, but this process drains battery very, very quickly.

On the plus side, it's quite sturdy for the times you throw it across the room in anger =].

Honestly, I'd stay away from this phone, you could do much better for a cheaper price.

I am coming to the end of my 18 month contract with 3 & I have loved this phone. If the camera had been a bit better I would not upgrade & would be happy to keep it if three offered an incentive with a discounted tariff. Battery life has been great & have not had any problems with reception or hang ups.

If you have any self respect, avoid this phone at all costs! Whilst it does look good the service is rubbish! You never get texts the same day, you can't send texts & also there is no way you will ever be able to ring a person on this phone!

I got it back from 3 today after they repaired it, 2 hours later, it still hadn't sent my text message!

So not only do I advise avoiding this phone, I also advise to avoid 3, but most importantly avoid the 18 month contracts.

The second time it went in they gave me a new handset this one was no better as the Internet didn't work. Also three for unknown reasons ha no longer sell it!

I have had this phone now for about 9 months, the main annoying thing is that after about 7 to 8 months the reception went very poor, which makes things incredibly frustrating! There are lots of features, looks good & is fairly easy to use after a bit of practise, I would not get another LG purely for the annoying reception problem, but hey it was a cheap contract! LOL.

I've had this phone for over a year & thought I would write a review to let people know what I think of it.

Well problems with it. My boyfriend had the same phone & the screen cracked & came up with a black bold on it when it hadn't fell that hard. This has also happened to one of my friends but luckily hasn't happened to me. However a couple of months ago it wouldn't turn on & kept freezing on the start up screen however I took it back to the 3 store & they got it fixed without charge in 2 days whereas with the screen it cost my boyfriend £40.

I don't know if this is a problem with 3 or the phone but the signal on it is rubbish! I think that this may be a problem with 3 as I am on the phone for a couple of minutes & then it goes dead because of loss of signal & is very rare that I have the signal to call someone back. However I don't think that I had this problem when I first purchased my phone.

The phone is an alright size but I think that it is quite chunky & very noticeable when in my pocket. The spinning wheel is a great touch & is one part of the phone that I have not got bored of. However is starting to go rusty & has scratches on it. I think that the camera is alright isn't too bad. The flash isn't very good though & doesn't allow you to see much in the dark.

I wasn't interested in there being a DJ function in the beginning but if that is what you are interested in it for don't be. It sounds nothing like it being mixed & is just sound being played over the songs. The memory on it is quite good & I like the 3 player. The battery life isn't really bad but doesn't last too long however I do use my phone continuously all day & it usually lasts 1 to 2 days.

I have had this phone for a year now & I have to say I have been disappointed with it throughout. For example a major selling point, for me, was that it had a virtual dj program. This is absolute naff, the program just makes an annoying CHEAP sound over the top of the song playing.

The scratches do not come up as bad as I thought. However the screen is very week & after 4 months of having the phone I pulled the phone out of my pocket only to find a cracked screen & a large black splodge which has been extremely annoying. It came up because I fell asleep & left my phone in my pocket.

The Spinny thing in the middle never gets boring, but, however does wear away easily, changes colour (rusty look) & becomes very slow. The battery Life is very good. You get an adapter so that you can plug in your own headphones which is very useful because the loud speaker sound quality was not too good.

The camera is better than I expected video recordings are good however the recording of sounds is once again naff.

Hope you find this Review useful. Any questions please just ask.

This phone is so poor it's untrue.

I am nearing the end of an 18 month contract & cannot wait to get out of it.

I get signal sporadically through the day & when I can connect it cuts off very quickly. This problem started soon after I got the phone & has reached such a level that I stopped carrying it with me; it was just pointless.

Problems I had from the outset are:

- the slide does not hang up
- Its heavy
- Its filled with poorly programmed 'features' such as the dj thing
- the scroll wheel is inaccurate
- It is horribly plastic in feel
- the camera is bad & is hardly useful if one wants to take a quick photo
- the browser is poor & makes you load everything thus using up the downloads which came with my contract
- Speakers are rubbish

In fact the only good features of this phone are the music download service & the cheap contracts & even hey only work when the thing can connect.

Three have told me that for 16 hours of the day there will be no service available. I've sent the phone off 2 times & finally three told me this. A complete waste of time & money.

This is a good phone but a couple of problems let it down massively.

1) The phone has got signal problems, the signal comes & goes when-ever it feels like it. When trying to make a call & it doesn't work this can be so frustrating, I once tried for 20 mins to make a call & ended up putting the sim into an old phone (which worked fine). Or if someone texts you & the signal doesn't want to play then you won't get your text for maybe half an hour or an hour later, which will annoy you if you expect important texts!

- I managed to find out that LG are repairing this fault but Three have no idea when a replacement model will be out & how much this will cost me, they told me to ask again in a month.

2) This is a music phone & the speakers are SO POOR! Turn it up full when you are outside & you will not hear a thing I was very disappointed with this.

- Three did however tell me about a loudspeaker that you can use when making a call, to use this you press & hold the C button whilst in a call. This makes the speakers quite loud, why can they not have a loud, loud-speaker for the music.

If the phone did not have these faults this would be such a brilliant phone as it has got a lot of great features, SORT IT OUT LG!

I got this phone at the end of August 2006. I went into a 3 store & its design caught my eye. I signed up for a 18 month contract, half price line rental for the first 6 months & after that £25 a month. I was very happy as I had just got one of the latest phones, with free wireless headphones, 512MB & 1GB memory card for free. Since then the screen has broken twice, costing £90 in repairs, the memory card & usb don't always work & I haven't yet found a way to engage loud speaker for calls. The My DJ function is terrible, the menus are complicated, I have only just found a hard case for it & it has taken almost a year to design one. The camera has no protector, the inbox memory is tiny, photos can't be edited very much, signal comes & go more than any other phone I have had & I was told it was louder than any phone on the market when bought, my friends Sony Ericsson was much louder.

However, that's enough complaining. The phone has an amazing screen quality, good for watching videos. It plays music fluently & loud. Compact & loads of features. Also, three have very good contracts, for £25 a month I get 750 texts & 150 voice minutes, 25 multimedia messages, £5 of downloads. On Orange PAYG that would amount to £115.

Overall, the design & some features are good, but if you are thinking about buying this phone, find it either on PAYG or short term contact. It gets boring after a while. P.S. If anyone knows how to use loudspeaker for calls on LG U400, please let me know.

All in all after having had the LG U400 for around 8 months I think it is an all round well designed, user friendly phone. Once you find your way around the features it's pretty simple.

A few things that are a little tedious about this phone is the speakers, considering this is a music phone predominantly I was a little disappointed with the maximum volume level.

Also, the coverage. I often have to turn the phone on & off to regain my signal & sometimes even when in a town centre where the signal is usually very good the phone seems to struggle.

However, I've been sufficiently pleased with the LG U400. Other than the signal I've had no technical problems & after 8 months of wear & tear it's still going strong.

I'd say it's a very durable, fun filled handset.

Really good especially in music aspect, you don't need an iPod.

The Bad thing about mine is that the software doesn't run on my Windows XP, anyone has any idea what to do?

Have had this phone for 10 months now with 3 network. Pretty nice features. The only problem I had was installing the driver and synchronising it to my PC, but after long trials, am OK now.

I have had this phone for about 6-7 months now & to start off it was a great phone but over time it's starting to get faults. My alarm clock & date wouldn't change recently, kept resetting itself. That lasted for about 2 weeks then it started working again. I have got a major problem at the moment with ringing out. Even though I have full signal it keeps saying no service available. Its gradually getting worse where I have to keep turning the phone on & off & or keep ringing until it works. This is really annoying because I can't use the thing. I am going to have to send it off or something. Anyway it has been an awesome phone up until now.

Well a few months down the line.

Sometimes the phone loses its connection & won't reconnect, you need to switch it off & on, it needs rebooting basically. Coverage on 3 & Orange as a backup is brilliant.

I can't get the music player to play the songs in the right order, maybe I am missing something, it just seems to do alphabetical order based on the id track title - even though the MP3 filenames are labeled 01 - track one, 02 - track two, etc.

The camera is superb, digi zoom only works at lower resolutions though.

I've had the web browser crash a couple of times, the only way to fix it is to remove the battery.

One annoying thing is if you turn off images on the web browser it asks you to confirm for every single image on the web page whether you want to display it! If you're wondering why you'd want to turn them off I'd soon use up my 10 Meg download limit if I downloaded every single image on sites such as Sky or BBCi.

Still happy with it but it certainly isn't perfect.

I have had this phone for 2 days now & generally happy with it. Moving from a Sony to this is a bit of a transition keep sending blank messages by pressing send by mistake because it doesn't give you the option of confirming sending. A couple of annoying things such as when you receive a message it a) doesn't come up with it so you can view it straight away you have to go to messages then inbox to view it & also it doesn't always appear at the top of the list it appears from when they sent it so if the network has been busy for 15 mins & you've received a few within that time you have to scroll through to find the new message. Other than that I have found it to be a really good phone! Very pleased with my choice!

Generally a good phone. Decent look & simple to use.

+ Scroll wheel is unique & slick
- Although slightly hard to get used to

= The soft keys are not a real problem

- The camera is slightly disappointing
- You can't end a call by sliding down
- The phone lacks a simple ringing tone
+ Speakers & stuff are good

Also; if you're having problems because your phone doesn't JUST vibrate when you receive a message. Do this.

Record a small voice clip of 'silence' & insert it to play when you receive a message. So; the phone will just vibrate & you won't hear any tone.

Pretty happy with this phone overall as I got it on a very good value package with 3. Camera is very good, web browser is nice, MP3s sound good, gets a signal, watch films in widescreen, etc. Nice size, great screen, nice clicky keypad & it doesn't crash, or hasn't so far!

Drawbacks are that:

1) I find the wheel tricky to use, for example it's difficult to do left rather than selecting the left action button as they are so close on the wheel.

2) When the phone has been slided shut if you get a text & slide it open it doesn't give you the option of going straight into your messages, it does when it's open & you get a text though.

3) Smiley's don't appear as colourful icons like they do on a Nokia, back to seeing them as ASCII characters :- (

4) You can't have vibrate for messages & a ringtone for calls, it's all vibrate or all tones. Crazy that they didn't think someone would want to have that as an option, I do!

5) It being a slider you don't seem to be able to get a cover to protect the screen. It's a very nice screen & you wouldn't want it scratching.

I have had this phone for around 1 month now on the 3 network & am very impressed. The package it came with was a good buying point with Bluetooth Headset & a big memory card. Standard supplied headphones have full remote controls for music. The LG headphones seem awkward to fit in your ears, but they can be swapped with your own to use their remote, good thinking LG! The features are excellent with the scroll wheel ideal for web surfing. It does seem a bit sensitive when scrolling through the circular style main menu, however you can change it to be more traditional grid style. Loads of features allowing thumbnail views of web pages, zooming in & out on sites which I have seen only on top end mobile PDA types(Nokia N80 for example)

Video & camera seem great & video calls are good quality. Lack of MSN but think this is to be released shortly. You need a cover (Which is not available at the moment) as you will want to keep it really clean as it looks like a beautiful ipod as finger marks show up easily. The DJ scratching is a bit naff, but playing & listening to music is fine. A definite head turner & good all round mobile that won't age.

I have had four different LG phones in the past (all on the 3 network) & this is by far the best. It is very easy to use but if I was to have any complaints at all it is just three things. First one is that photos & video playback do not fill the entire screen & are a little bit diddy. Next is the fact that when playing a video, the sound is rather quiet even on the highest setting. And the last one would be more a complaint with 3 I think than the actual phone, that there are not many compatible games. I also have a LG u880 & there are loads of games available for that, but my u400 has a choice of only about six.

So nothing major, but something for LG to bear in mind so they can make their next phone even better.

I have just got this mobile today & it is a really nice looking mobile & a sign that lg are becoming a real player in the mobile phone market. I always thought the chocolate was a nice phone although a little bit too feminine for me. The U400 is more me & for a 3g phone it is not a brick far from it, it makes the razr look kinda yesterday to be honest & I used to think that was the coolest phone ever. The only annoying thing for me & it is (I hope lg read this!)The preprogrammed rubbish music, ring tones etc & believe me they are bad because one thing for sure if your phone rings you will either answer it in 0.005 seconds or you are at risk being thrown out the window of your train by other passengers traveling to work! (Get yourself a ringtone) The camera is 2.0 Mp & it's a decent effort video seems ok as well as 3g.The voice recorder is not the best but in saying that what is? They are all not very good. If you are looking for a cool looking phone a decent camera & bags of memory for music it's a good choice.
