Our HTC Wildfire Review

Overview
The Wildfire is a compact & cut down sized 3G Smartphone which oozes style & comes with a massive variety of Smartphone features. It casing has a solid feel with it touch screen form styling & all in a neatly proportioned size. The Wildfire runs an Android™ operating system version 2.1, complete with an amazing HTC Sense™ user interface which supports widget & a customisable home screen for ease of use. The HTC Wildfire has been labelled my many as the miniature version of the HTC Desire, which is another stunning Smartphone designed by HTC. The Wildfire comes with high speed technologies including 3G HSDPA & WiFi®, plus it supports easy to use Internet features such as a HTML Web browser with a Google search plus it has integrated Twitter™, Facebook™ & Flickr™ application for the user to enjoy. Small, beautifully designed, but highly powerful is a great way to describe the HTC Wildfire.

Appearance & Size
This fashion conscious Smartphone comes in various colours which allow the user to express their personality via their handset. A subtle handset colour choice maybe the black version, whereas the more daring user may prefer a more vibrate colour choice, the choice is yours. Its touch screen form means this HTC Wildfire comes with an impressive sized screen on the front section which can be used for both viewing & as an input method, & this handset has no opening mechanisms making it a solid handset to hold. There is no physically keypad or keyboard to mention due to the Wildfire's touch screen design which allows the user to make onscreen selections & will display a keypad where & when necessary. Its overall measurements are 10.68cm tall, 6.04cm wide by 1.2cm deep which is small for a handset with such impressive Smartphone capabilities. There is a very subtle tilt in the handset's shape which is towards the lower end of the casing & this makes it & easy shape for the user to hold & use when making a call. Its touch screen displays approximately sixteen million colours on a capacitive screen, which measures 3.2 inches when measured diagonally. This screen provides a bright & colourful display with a screen resolution of two hundred & forty pixels by three hundred & twenty pixels.

First off, it's a great phone. Android, Good camera, great touch screen, what else would one want?

I have had a few complaints though. It would not download apps from the app store so only after 3 visits to the Vodafone store would it work.

The battery life is good, so are the apps! The thousands of apps! There is an app for everything.

The touch screen works with the lightest touch of the most delicate finger & is oh so responsive! But the placement of the search button is in the wrong place. Being a touch-sensitive button only the lightest touch would activate it, irritating to say the least.

I have to say though, after standing on a platform at a station for 40 minutes waiting for the cancelled train texting & browsing, the music player stopped working. FOREVER. I have downloaded another one at the cost of £4 but that is not as good. What a shame.

Overall, this is a good phone & I have not had any problems with the battery life.

5 Stars definately.

H.

The phone is a slightly cheaper version of HTC Desire but it does not look cheap at all.

It's one of the best phones I have used. Easy to use & the only reason I gave 95% for usability is because when dialling numbers, it's not as fast as using a phone with keypad.

Been using the phone for 2 months now & I never fails to impress me.

You can customise the phone however you like, so all the apps are in the 7 screens & don't have to go to menu.

The radio very good & MP3 is fantastic too.

Internet & YouTube opens a few seconds later than HTC Desire due to its slower processor but I can live with that.

For everyone that been complaining about the bad battery life on this phone, get Task Killer (free) from Android market. That is what I did & now the battery lasts for nearly 2 days with heavy usage.

Overall it's a very good phone with anyone on a small budget who wants a phone that looks expensive.

Reading some of the other reviews the main problem seems to be battery life, well mine lasts easily a day & I am listening to music all day at work & messing with Internet & pics & vid on the night.

I've had mine now for a couple of months & if I am honest it nearly went out the window in the first week due to it being very buggy i.e. force closing of apps & music player playing two songs at once.

Someone mentioned no alarm clock auto turn on of the phone & yes this is the case you have to turn your phone to air plane mode which shuts off all non essential stuff like Wi-Fi updating texts & phone calls you can still use your phone for games & such but for all sense & purpose the phone is off (so no need to leave it charging over night even though the phone cuts of when fully charged).

Now I am familiar with the phone its working fine & looking forward to its Froyo update.

Lastly never had a problem with calls or the camera as stated in other reviews & let's face it if you have a phone for a day & take it back is thatreally a review?

I've had this phone for 2 weeks now & I love it! The features on the phone are fantastic, friend stream widget & contact list is great, Facebook synced contacts with their details & photos & also birthdays get added into calendar automatically. Touch screen keypad is surprisingly very easy to use after 1 to 2 days of getting used to. Battery life isn't the best but not exactly the worst! If you have the right apps you need open & none unnecessarily then it will last up to a day & a half! I have no complaints, well worth the money!

Despite following all instructions the battery life on this phone is diabolical.

After moderate usage I placed the phone on charge last night at 10pm. The phone was turned on & taken off charge at 10am this morning, with a full battery life showing. It is now 2.20pm & with absolutely NO use at all, the phone has just beeped to be put back onto charge.

I have a Samsung that is 4 years old & this phone can last up to 2 days without needing a charge so as the wildfire is brand new, why can't this do the same?

I will be returning this phone to T mobile tomorrow to see what they propose to do about this problem & if am not satisfied will be cancelling my contract.

To Sam, you are wrong regarding Android 2.1 not supporting Skype. If you done your research (Google is your friend) you would find that in the UK Skype is available for Android 2.1, but currently it is an exclusive feature on the 3 network. However, if you had installed Nimbuzz from the Android Market you would have found this app signs into your Skype account & pulls your contacts down onto your phone. You are then able to chat to your contacts by text & also make Skype calls.

You also mention it does not support all languages. No phone supports all languages. If you want a phone to support your particular language then go & purchase your phone from that country.

This is a great phone but I have returned mine after one day for the following reasons.

- Battery life does not last with moderate use, which makes the phone not portable.
- Does not support all languages.
- Resolution not so great.
- Alarm does not work if you switch your phone off, my 10 years old Nokia does this simple task, I do not want to leave an electronic device switch on all night next to my bed when I am a sleep.
- When making calls it takes time to connect the call.
- When making calls voice not so great.
- Camera sometimes does not start so you have to switch off & on.
- The operating system Android 2.1 does not support Skype.

If all of the above implemented & fixed I would buy it again, for now it seems an expensive toy to purchase. I am looking for a phone not a toy.

I have had the HTC Wildfire for nearly a week now & have no complaints about it. I have set it up for email, regularly text & use the Internet, though not a large caller. Battery will last a day but does need to be charged each night. I have stopped applications running that I do not use which has helped improve the battery life.

Letdown completely by the battery life. Take absolutely no notice of the manufactures claims on battery life. Anyone that owns this phone for any other reason than for telling the time will be disappointed. This phone wouldn't last 5 hours with anyone that sends or receives more than 8 messages a day. Great phone but surely in 2010 it would be fitted with a battery that lasts long enough to use the phones functions & last the day!
