I wish I had never purchased this phone, it has been nothing but hassle & when things go wrong you realise that neither HTC nor Tesco have any customer service or technical understanding of the phone.

I purchased this phone from Tesco's 3 weeks ago. 6 days later the account was suspended as I had gone over the download limit. The excess bill of £250 was written off but Tesco could not explain why this had happened. Overnight, something was downloading, sometimes 6 to 7 times a minute over 4 hours at around 30p a time, only stopping when the account was suspended as the bill reached £250.

I had only had the phone 6 days & had only used the camera, text, phone & on a few occasions the Internet.

I was not very happy with Tesco or HTC as they could not explain why this had happened but suggested it was a fault on the phone so exchanged it.

My complaint was that if they didn't know why it had happened this time then what was to stop it happening again. They assured me it would not (at the same time as telling me they would not refund the charges next time).

10 days later & my phone is yet again suspended as they downloads happened again last night.

I am on a £35 per month contract so why they allow me to run up a bill of £250 without notifying me is unacceptable. So in 3 weeks I have a bill for £490 on top of my £35 per month for something no one can explain. My phone was at home both times & I have wi-fi, which has confused them even more.

There is simply no back up when things go wrong, I now have no phone as it is suspended until I pay the additional £250.

But the most important point is that no one actually understands why the phone had decided to do the downloads, they can see what has happened from the bill, but technically they do not have the knowledge to sort out any problems.

After using iPhones for 4 years it took a lot to sway me but after being sick of apples ways & having to use the rubbish music program that is iTunes I went for the desire HD.

Does everything I could ever want, syncs effortlessly to all my calendars (inc shared online Gmail calendars) email addresses, pulled all my contacts off my iphone before I recycled it, links people from twitter, facebook & my phone book for my own ease & then can be completely customised to whatever I want on the 7 diff pages of my home screen. Turn on Bluetooth or wireless or gps with a single tap. Downloadable keyboards which can be customised & calibrated to suit my fingers & what buttons I want? Its perfect.

There are 2 flaws, 1) android market is nowhere near as good as the app store at the moment 2) battery life is poor with all accounts & mails set to sync, turn a few of them off, download an 'app killer' & buy a new 1600mA battery (£5 Amazon) & you'll get a much better length of use out of it.

Oh yeah, when the battery runs out you can simply take it out & put a new one in. Try that with your iPhone.

I have had this phone on Orange for just over 6 months now & I love it! I think that 6 months in I can give a more accurate impression of the pro's & con's of this phone than an 'Oh my goodness I've had this phone for 2 days now & it's amazing' as I never find them all that useful!

I can honestly say it is the best phone I have ever had! I have had a few very minor software issues, primarily, with not getting notified of a few incoming texts (which a friend of mine, same phone, different network also experienced) however the recent automatic software update to gingerbread has sorted this problem out.

The only bad thing I can really say about it is the battery life, however, from talking to various friends with Iphone4, Blackberry & Samsung smart phones, I don't think the HTC is any better or worse, they are all running large screens & powerful processors so I think it is to be expected for now & something that will definitely improve across the board given time.

From comparing against friends iPhone's I would say that the Desire HD can do everything the iphone4 can & more. Most Apps are now available for both Apple & Android. There are of course a few exceptions, some in favour of Apple some in favour of Android.

I love my music so that was a big factor for me as my phone is my main MP3 player. The stock music player is really quite good although I downloaded PowerAmp which is amazing, very easy to use, & with fully adjustable equalizer (that I was surprised to find a lot of Smartphone's lack)so whatever you are listening to you can get it just how you like it, Also the fact that you can just drag & drop music files to your phone without using iTunes or similar & without synching all of your content makes things much simpler & has even made my iPhone wielding mates sit up & take notice! It also has an FM radio which I use quite a lot & is very good. The Camera is also very good, & far superior to the iPhone although not as good as the Sony Ericsson Cybershot range. Video quality is HD & also very good!

I hate Satnav & never used to use it. I never thought I'd say this but the 10 or so times I've thought sod it, I'll give it a try, It has never let me down!

Internet use, Email, Facebook etc is very easy & quick & whilst a phone is never going to be as good as a PC, I find it a close second best.

I Have to Admit, I am not an Apple iPhone fan as I don't like the whole iTunes domination & restriction of YOUR OWN music & what you do with it. I guess it's down to personal choice & I still think the iPhone4 is a very good phone. However, for me the HTC just edges the superiority for the reasons I have outlined.

In conclusion, the HTC Desire HD is slick, easy to use, very powerful, & very reliable, If you are reading this & are having the same dilemma I was 6 months ago about which phone to go for, I guarantee you the HTC WILL NOT DISAPPOINT & I would not hesitate to have another one.
I have never written a review of any kind before but I am so impressed with this phone I had to share.

Hope this helps.

I've had another few months with the HD & wanted to add to my earlier review.

One thing I omitted before, which was apparent from day one, is battery life. If I use the Internet, even if only for five minutes, I have to charge my phone on a daily basis. This is common to all HTCs, so not just the HD.

The other thing, but this could be an Android thing, is when connecting to my Sat Nav. It will connect so that I can use it as a hands-free, but it won't read out incoming texts. With my old phone, a Samsung Tocco, my Sat Nav, a Tom Tom Go Live, would read out aloud all incoming texts.

Waited for this phone to come available & it was well worth the wait. I am so pleased I got it & would recommend to others.

It is my first HTC so this is why I scored it 95% on features & usability, it was a bit tricky to get my head around using a HTC, but all in all a super phone.

I would buy another HTC for sure & will keep this throughout my 24 month contract.

Excellent choice :).

Was looking for to buy the HTC Desire but stumbled across some great online deals for the Desire HD, so ordered the HD version with a free gift too, bonus.

This phone is top notch in my opinion, love the large touch screen, Android is much easier than Apple or Symbian operating system which I have been familiar with, great camera & web too.

I am not phone professional but I really like this Smartphone, one of my colleagues is just about to order it today as he was so impressed with its looks, usability & onboard features. We are all turning Android at my place of work.

I've had my Desire HD for nearly a month now & feel that this is sufficient time to give a fair evaluation. It was my second touch screen phone, but my first venture into Android.

It was a little daunting to use at first, but I was given a quick lesson by someone at work who has a standard Desire, & haven't looked back since. Trying to find how to change some of the settings can be difficult, for example vibration feedback is in Sounds, but once you get used to where things are its very easy to use.

Response time when turning the phone sideways is quick, much quicker than the standard Desire. It's easy to assign different ringtones to different people, although I had to connect my phone to the computer to be able to change the message tone to 'Compare the Meerkat' as I could not select this directly from the phone.

My only moan is that the on and off button on the top is stiff, so to turn it off can take a while, & you have to press hard on the button, other than that, 10 out of 10.

My delivery arrived, even with all the snow here, I was expecting it to be delayed until after Christmas but it got here. So happy it did, I got the Desire HD for myself as a Christmas gift LOL, well its Christmas.

Proving to be just as excellent as I imagined, coming from a Samsung so took a bit of time getting used to the layout & features, best phone owed so far, battery a bit gutless but I am using the Internet for some time. Happy Christmas to one & all.

Hope you get the Desire HD for Christmas, if not take my advice, just buy yourself one in the January sales.

This phone is amazing, the big screen & the preloaded apps on it work beautifully. The locations app at the moment is a bit inaccurate but it gets things right 50% of the time, no lag on the system whatsoever & I've downloaded a fair dozen apps already (had this phone for a day & half now). Ebook reader app that links to kobo is pretty good too.

Car panel tested it & works brilliantly, although I haven't had a chance to try the premium services but they are pretty cheap (speed cameras I was told was 25 pounds for life).

The quality of the phone is amazing too, the all screen on the front is fairly strong & I haven't got a screen protector on it yet, while the aluminium at the back is sleek, so I am not going to bother to put this in a case.

The ONLY downside is the battery life, which you'll have to charge every night (I have got heavy usage at the moment) but the phone is way too good to be dismissed just because of the battery life.
