Not the best looking phone but a good phone overall.

Had the phone 6 months.
Bad points. Camera, crashes, SIM card is hard to get out & price.
Good points. Wow, the phone is great, the amount you can do with the phone is beyond any other phone. Having the iPod features it's a great combination.
If you do not mind a poor camera this is the best. Nokia 5800 is a great cheaper choice.

It is a phone which is entirely different from others. If we look at other handsets like Nokia, Samsung & Sony Ericsson etc. They all are the same meaning that the theme is almost the same. As Apple I phone is totally different from others, with having different features software. The biggest drawback is that its usability is a bit complicated. The rest is excellent.

Apple iPhone is just a phone shouting out to be something special, but all its hype is just gone down the plug hole, there are much better specifcatio phones out there & a lot cheaper than this one.

Looks sleek & everyone raves about it, but for the features you can get with other phones I am not sure why people love this so much. Especially at the price. I have a Nokia 5800 & I prefer it. When they catch up & offer same features as other phones I would consider an iPhone.

This phone is not good, it looks good on the base of it but there are problems, buy other touch phones if you want because the iphone is a rip off, buy LG if you want my advice.
By the way I chose 5% for everything because that's the lowest you can go.

The best mobile phone ever, tried every other brand & I have now the iPhone, will change it for the 3G & for no other, just wish that apple implements the SMS letter count I know I can have it with a third party application, but it will always be better from Apple, but this phone literally ROCKS. Buy it because you should.

After reading all these terrible reviews I have to have my say, this phone is amazing & to all the people saying you can't get MMS, video, zoom etc, I say get it hacked open because I have everything on my iPhone you could possibly need. Zoom, video, camcorder with 5 hours playback, MMS sending & recieving, games galore, ringtones slashed down from itunes (from an earlier review) I can change my firmware whenever I want, I can upgrade packages & basically make it a more attractive possibility to others if you just look into getting it done correctly.

Having put my SIM card back in my N95 & given up with the iPhone because it's so awkward to use.
- iPhone Bluetooth is incompatible with most other devices. It won't pair with my PC, my laptop my son's phone, my printer, my wife's laptop, phone etc! I believe this was done deliberately by Apple so you have to use iTunes or some such reason. That makes me very angry. Bluetooth is supposed to be a universal standard like USB. In making the iPhone incompatible with most other Bluetooth devices they have in effect consciously made it a defective product! I've never heard of such a thing. It's a completely crass thing to do.
- Can't switch off predictive text. To add to this, the predictive text you're stuck with doesn't seem to learn!
- Can't enlarge font size in text entry box. Why have a relatively large phone screen then leave the customer with tiny fonts!
- Can't forward SMS's or phone numbers.
- Can't sort order of Internet bookmarks.
- Last Incoming & last outgoing calls mixed up in one call log so difficult to distinguish outgoing from incoming calls.
- MySpace music doesn't play. Same with other sites where programmes such as flash player etc are needed because those programmes don't work on the Apple platform.
- Here's one of the most irritating niggles with the iPhone. Can't use the iPhone with one hand unlike most phones where a little group of selection keys gives access to most functions within easy reach of the thumb of the hand you are holding the phone with. The iPhone touch screen is too sensitive to the duration of finger stroke. It needs quick stabs with index finger so thumb doesn't work well. The iPhone is a big slippery lump you need two hands to operate where icons are dotted all over the place rather than all within easy reach of your thumb anyway.
- Any phone screen, including the iPhone screen, is too small to use the Internet conveniently. I've got a PC at work & two at home. Do I really need the Internet in my pocket? No not with a silly little phone screen. So the main reason to justify having an iPhone, namely 3G, isn't a valid enough reason for putting up with the poor ergonomics & camera.
- the camera is of course not as good as for example the N95 which has 5M pixel & a Carl Zeiss lens.
- When you've finished with the phone then press home key the next time you use it, the previous application you've finished with opens up! When I go to use my phone I expect the home key to give me the desktop for me to select the application I want to use. Not the application I finished with hours ago !
- the Qwerty keypad is so small you keep hitting the adjacent key by mistake. I'm so used to entering text with multiple key strokes via the telephone keypad on my N95 that it's quicker & more reliable & less fiddly than the tiny Qwerty keypad on the iPhone.
- iPhone won't take a standard earphone jack whereas Nokia had the sense to make the N95 so it does take standard jack.
- Needs a shortcut to Google on the desktop.
Summary, the iPhone is very slick & impressive, but alas ergonomically poor. The wow factor is there initially, but then you find it's not so nice to use. It's a case of style over function. In fact it's a bit gimmicky & I can't forgive Apple for the Bluetooth issue. I found the 14 irritating problems listed above within a week of owning my iPhone. No doubt there are many more problems one would find over a longer period of time.
I am happy to be taking my iPhone back to the shop & switching back to my Nokia N95. I'm very very disappointed with the iPhone.

I would just like to point out to Rob Oakes & Bert Yorks, that YES this is a camera phone, & is advertised as such & the people that slate the camera side of the phone are correct it is lousy, But the rest of the phone is pretty good, speakers not up to much though, Video playback & youtube are great, WiFi works great, the argument about if you want a camera get one, goes the same re a phone if you want a phone then just by a bog standard phone, But if you want a CAMERA Phone, this isn't it.

The IPHONE IS AMAZING! The BEST THING TO COME ON the MARKET! GET ONE & YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT AT ALL!
P.S You don't need a magical tool to insert your Sim, just poke the end of a paper clip in there & it will pop out.
P.P.S It does say this on the User Manual on the Apple website (with step by step pictures) if you care to take a look. LOL!

To all those who can't or don't know how to have their own songs as ringtones here's a little tip.
- Firstly you need the m4a file (e.g. Seal Kissed By a Rose.M4a) which is already in iTunes (hence m4a).
- Then you need to transport that track into a music editing software program & shorten the track to less than 40 seconds (otherwise the iPhone won't recognise the track as a ringtone).
- Then you need to save & find the original of that new 40 second clip & change its file extension from M4a to M4r.
-After you have done that, go into iTunes preferences & add ringtones to your subfolders on your PC. (Ringtones subfolder should appear below Music, Video etc.)
- Then simply drag the M4r file across into the iTunes Ringtones folder as you would drag tracks into your Music folder.
- Then simply re sync your iPhone & it should load the new ringtone track onto your iPhone.
I hope this helps people. It is a pain & apple should be making this more simple to do in the UK but they aren't!
Personally I love this phone. Although it has its downsides I couldn't go back to using anything else :).

I bought this for the iPod music facility. It's quite good, but iTunes software isn't brilliant, & several of my albums have become fragmented & mixed up. The phone is adequate, but nowhere as good as a Nokia 6310i. Perhaps apple should carefully look at this. As regards the camera, well I use a Nikon D3 12MP SLR, so this is like a snapshot toy, but it's adequate. How do you use your own music as ring tones? I like the email ability. Basically it's an iPod touch with a cheap basic phone. The level of instructions is poor.

Design, the designs suits me well. It easily fits in my pocket & I don't need a bulky case to protect it.
Features, I got more than what I paid for. A big thanks for the third party applications out there.
Usability, You don't need a genius to use this phone. It is basically a phone & iPod. Add applications & it's more than that.
You have to explore all the possibilities this device has to offer. You want more than 2 MP, then get a digital camera. You want 3G, then get a 3G phone instead.

Disappointed with phone, the first one I had would only worked if it was in the charger, would not hold a charge otherwise. Apple replaced it, but replacement only holds charge 3 days, even with low usage. The On & Off button doesn't work either. The fact you can't send a photo in an SMS is poor & also not being able to video is poor. Friends with cheap Pay as you go phones have far better specifications including radios. Certainly do not intend to upgrade to 3G. An expensive mistake!

I am using the iPhone to type this right now LOL. OK some good points.
- Great music player.
- Excellent Internet (on Wi-Fi).
- Flawless design.
- Great for checking mail.
- Great business phone.
Now for some bad points.
- Terrible Camera.
- Boring features (more gimmicks than proper uses).
- Freezes & needs to be put into restore mode.
- NO FLASH!
- No video recording on camera.
- Sometimes hard to type.
- Screen gets smudgy easily.
All in all the iPhone is a decent business phone & excellent music phone but some important parts Missing so if your looking for business phone come here but for proper features go to N95 8 GB.

Yes this phone only has a 2MPx camera. You know why? Because it's a PHONE! I must agree with rob for wolves on this, all the people slating it for poor camera quality, I'd ask you this, have you ever used a proper digital camera?
Use technology for what it was intended for, the iPhone represents a significant leap in communications which will eventually filter out into the mainstream.
So my advice to all the phone addicts who purely want one because someone says 'It's the thing to have' is to wait until you can get this technology elsewhere on Pay as you go.
For those who need to cut down on organisational gadgetry & consolidate into one all round piece of professional equipment that is easy to use & reliable in both a business & recreational context, go for it, you won't regret it.

As an Apple fan I am going to try & be objective!
First thing, I have noticed that main complaint that everyone moans about is that it has a 2MP camera. The iPhone is not a camera phone, it is a business phone come iPod! It is not a phone for taking photos. If you want to take photos, use a camera that has 10MBP. I found that having everything centralised brilliant, as I no longer have to take an iPod & phone around with me. I have the Internet literally in my Pocket, where I can access my emails & BBC news where ever I am!
What other phone allows your to resize photos, just by pinching the photo, I can't think of any! What phone has the easiest music library application, again I cannot think of any. Steve jobs stated that it took 5 years to make, it was well worth it!
So think again before you all start slating the iPhone, just because you can't record your happy slapping videos & immediately post them to You Tube!

The iPhone is a brilliant device! I have an iPod touch & its hacked, you can also do this to an iPhone.
- the QWERTY keyboard is fast & easy when you get used to it.
- the Internet is fast.
- Music player is the best.
- Camera is rubbish but with it hacked you can record videos.
- Speaker not the best.
& FOR the PEOPLE THAT SAY you HAVE TO ORDER A SPECIAL THING FOR the SIM CARD IS WRONG! ALL you NEED IS A PAPERCLIP, simple.
The design is good & the OS is brilliant & all the applications are very professional & this is a must have phone.
BUY IT, if you must!

I seem to be the first person to review this phone taking into account its recent price drop. I want to review it from a value for money perspective.
Positives.
- Faster, easier text messaging with the full QWERTY keyboard.
- The large screen is bigger than most other mobiles on the market & perfect for watching films or TV series on the go. (Try watching a film on an N95 without getting a migraine).
- 8GB memory holds 1000s of tunes to store.
- Web browsing is really user friendly again QWERTY keyboard comes in very handy.
- Unlocking it allows you to change themes, icons, download games, apps etc.
Negatives.
- 2 mega pixel camera isn't the best, so what? Buy a proper digital camera to take decent quality images.
Conclusion.
For the price, you cannot buy a phone that looks this good & has this many features, so in my opinion it's the best phone on the market. Anyone who gave it 5% wants there head testing.

This mobile is a great idea, OK the camera isn't the best, but passable, Speakers are rubbish, Goes online fast & navigation is good, Not that good as a phone mainly due to speakers, Music sounds great on headphones but distorts badly using speakers, but getting it on there is a pain with iTunes, why no drag & drop. You Tube videos play really well on this mobile.
Overall a great idea but missing a few tricks. Regarding problem putting sim card in, just straighten a paperclip out & push in hole & sim container pops out.
Get it unlocked for full benefit lots of downloads for it.
It's a heavy mobile & is a bit slippery easy to drop, But lucky have caught it twice. Good mobile but not really at its current price.

Good Points
- Design.
- the Wi-Fi is Fantastic.
- itunes.
- Battery Life.
Bad points
- Even though it's supposed to be a Super Quad band phone it won't work in Japan, I found that out to my cost!
- No MMS Messaging.
- Volume for the earpiece is no Silent, & I am NOT DEAF.
- the touch screen when Texting can be nightmare for hitting the wrong buttons.
It's a great looking phone, but it's got far too many issues so I got rid of when I got back from Tokyo!

To the girl from Cornwall get this phone you won't regret it.
To the girl in Wales you don't need a special key from apple just use a small pin & the sim holder pops up just press pin down.

OK, I have wanted an iPhone since the day I first saw it advertised on TV. I still don't own one. But having read quite a few different reviews about it on this site & many others, Im not quite sure I still want it.
Firstly, many people have said about the camera being only 2 megapixels. Compared to the phone I have at the moment (a really old Nokia) that's amazing. I would be happy to have that.
Secondly, the battery, this I would not be happy with. For it to last only 70 hours & then need to be charged up! That's appalling!
Thirdly, the touch screen, I was really looking forward to be able to play around with it & use it daily, but the comments on here have put me down. Having recently tried the iPhone in an Apple shop, I realise why people hate it. It is so sensitive, & if you're not careful or having big fingers, when typing a message, you could easily type the wrong thing. Although I do believe that touch screens are the way forward.
Despite all this, I still think the iPhone is the best designed phone around, hence the 100%. The features to me don't sound quite so good, the camera is not what it could be, & a few other things. & the usability doesn't sound great either. Touch screen hard to control & the dialling numbers in an emergency. This is why I gave it 50%.
To everyone who is thinking of buying an iPhone, I would think very carefully about what your about to do. Experience the phone for yourself, & then decide whether you like it. It's quite pricey & on an 18 month contract, so be really sure you want it before you buy it.

Good quality phone. It has been on & off building sites, construction sites & is wearing pretty well. Dropped down stairs, on bathroom floors, & had a table tipped over onto it. Does everything still work? Yep!
As a non Apple person I was impressed. I've ditched my Zune & have all my tunes on the iPhone.
I don't need Bluetooth, Google Maps, etc but it has a great screen for checking mails & Internet usage.
It's a shame that other service providers cannot supply it since I really dislike O2's call charges.
It works abroad in US, Germany, Romania & China.

Right as it seems a lot of the reviews on here are clueless & uninformed I will make a real review as an iPhone user of 4 months.
The design I gave 95% the reason behind this not being 100% is down to a few minor flaws. The main one with me is the speaker as it sounds like it's going to damage itself when you have the volume over about 85%. Apart from that brilliant design looks amazing. After 4 months I only have 1 tiny scratch that only I notice which is on the screen & pretty much invisible.
Features, DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE IF IT DOESN'T HAVE the FEATURES YOU WANT. The bad reviews on this site are down to new fashion jockies buying this phone to look cool then moaning about it doesn't do what they want. You wouldn't buy any other phone if it didn't have the features you want. The camera quality is brilliant in bright light but disappointing in dimly lit areas basically if you want a photo taking device buy a camera. It lacks a few 'phone' features you would expect with a normal mobile phone (hence the 85%) such as MMS (I never really used it I have email) & some statistics you would expect (messages sent) & forwarding. This phone would also benefit from 3G (rumours about release are around already).
Usability, I have studied this at university & you cannot get a more usable smart phone than this. If you can't figure out how to use your finger to tap the screen you have a problem. The 5% down on this review is for the actual phone use. In the event of an emergency it requires a few steps to dial a number. Unless you have a pin when you can just hit emergency call & dial the number.
Overall this is easily the best phone I have ever had but it isn't for everyone. Do not buy this phone if it doesn't have the requirements you need.
P.S. Works brilliantly with a Mac & OSx.

Quite honestly, the best mobile phone I've ever used.
The keyboard & features are a pure joy to use.
Web browser wise, nothing out there comes even close. Plus it's got the best music player available on any mobile phone.
Put simply, all the people that have given the iPhone a bad review don't own one, & have probably only used one for 5 minutes.

Hello, Basically I was looking forward to buying this phone but the more I look on all these different review sites. The more I don't want it. There are more bad reviews then good ones. When I first heard apple were bringing a iPhone out I was well excited about it & thought it would be top of the range, BUT.
Firstly, Loads of people on here & on other review sites have said that you can't set your music as ringtones. WHICH IS QUITE RUBBISH REALLY AS I TEND TO SET MY MUSIC AS MY RINGTONE & MESSAGE ALERT.
Secondly, the camera is only 2megapixel & it doesn't have a flash which I have on my phone I have now don't get me wrong when I first brought my Sony Ericsson W850i the camera was good but after a few weeks the camera starts to get poor quality. WHICH AGAIN IS RUBBISH AS I TAKE LOADS OF PHOTOS.
Thirdly, the battery & battery life. Well personally that isn't an issue for me, but I can see where other people are coming from as far as if it broke, & it's a bit off a chew on sending your phone away to apple & paying £70 for a new battery, IF YOUR ANYTHING LIKE ME I WOULD DIE WITHOUT MY MOBILE.
Fourthly, the network it's on 02 where I live I can't get a signal from 02, Vodafone, t mobile etc, I can only get Orange as I live near the Orange masts (for signal ), ITS A BIT rubbish WHEN YOUR ON the PHONE & YOU LOSE SINGAL OR SENDING A TEXT & IT SAYS SENDING FAILED. & Last But Not Least, the price it's outrageous you have to pay near enough £300 on top of your monthly traffic hence £35, £45, £75.
I can't really tell people not to or to buy this phone as I have never owned one I am just giving my opinion on the phone & how much the reviews have put me off. I intend buying either the LG VEIWTY (near enough the same as the iPhone within looks & design) OR the Sony Ericsson K850i.

The iPhone may not utilise the latest 3G or pre 4G communication technologies but who cares? In Apple's usual style they present a range of features in an incredibly straightforward & easy to use interface, this thing could be using telegraphic technology from the 19th century & it would still beat the rubbish out of any Nokia or Blackberry because of the interface. A contrasting phone may use 3G & load pages 30 seconds faster than over EDGE but what good is that if the page you see is a garbled mess of text & poor quality images.
Let's face it the iPhone is, at its heart a PHONE. & the interface used to dial numbers is excellent, the phonebook is clear to use & quick to dial for a touch screen & call quality is good. You can add callers for 3-way conversations or hold someone at the mere touch of a button. I happily paid for a 16GB iPhone because it combines an iPod (arguably the best personal music device on earth) & a mobile phone together. If you want a 4.0 megapixel camera but an SLR, if you want GPS but a TomTom.
The iPhone is more than just a phone, it is a statement & I feel a lot of people reviewing this phone are simply annoyed they cannot afford to make such a statement so post negative reviews.

What's all the hype about? It has a camera which phones had 3 years ago, no 3G, no video recording, & it's got Bluetooth but you can't send anything with it to other phones because it doesn't have the capability. Essentially it's an ipod touch with a phone bit & a camera. People think it's amazing because it has a very good web browser, looks nice & it has a huge touchscreen but that's as far as it goes. There is not a single functional thing that the iphone has that the Nokia N95 8GB doesn't have. The N95 8GB has sat nav, 5Mp camera, Wi Fi, Stunning games, YouTube, MSN, gps data counter that can tells you your current & average speed. The iphone only has a couple of these things & claims to have sat nav but Google maps is far from being sat nav as it can only pinpoint your location to within about 1KM, with the N95 it's to the nearest 3 metres. You may be thinking that the Nokia has poor battery life & it does but when it runs flat you can just put a spare battery in it whilst with the iphone you can't!

There is no doubting this is a slamming phone it looks & works beautiful. My main concern is not the contract anymore as 02 have improved the minutes & texts allowance what it really is, is the features. It has a 2 megapixel camera with no zoom, auto focus, no flash basically it just captures what's in front of it. I had a phone that did that over 2 years ago now. Also stereo Bluetooth only what a silly thing to do that also suggests an old handset before real Bluetooth was invented. The only feature that stands out to me is Wi-Fi which is nice to have not a necessary & if someone asked me if the iPhone changed the way I think about phones as the iPod changed the way we think about music my answer would be NO.
Hopefully in the near future the iPhone 2 or 2nd version (or whatever they will call it) will be released in the near future & we can see if they took our ideas into perspective. I would love to see a 4 megapixel camera phone as it has never been seen before but I am sensing a 3.2 MP camera, I really like the look & design & the size is not a concern so I hope they don't change the casing to much & make it thin & ugly, normal Bluetooth or one where we can actually send pictures will be nice so we are not trapped to having to dock it every time we want to send pictures, a better speaker too my friend has this phone & she listens to the music out loud as obviously its a music phone & within the first week she broke it so now every time the volume goes over half way you get that annoying banging sound & my LG Viewty is louder? Why that is I don't know, I suggest one on either side as that projects higher volume. That really concludes it not too much just something to make it more into a phone for 2008 rather than 2004.

I think most of these reviews are BOGUS reviews from other companies trying to deter people from buying iPhones, you can tell by some of their reasoning! I think anyone considering buying an iPhone should go check one out for themselves at an Apple store you can even make a call for free & see the quality, but for some of the reviews on here to slate the iPod so badly you can see they have another agenda behind the review & hopefully the sensible people reading these reviews will take that into consideration!
I've taken pictures with the iPhone & there more than acceptable quality, not the best I would agree but hey I use my Cannon 7.3 mega pixel for photos, but compared to any camera on a phone a couple years back quality is fine, if you ever enlarged the image from say a Sony 630 to the resolution the iPhone others you would see the difference!
Sure the iPhone isn't perfect & will get better but as a phone with multimedia capabilities with a GREAT interface & with recent software updates the potential for being a great PDA then I think it has set the standard other phones are now trying to copy as the iPod set the standard for digital music players!

Why does life have to be so difficult? I bought an iPhone for Christmas had the phone unlocked to take Orange SIM card, so far so good for voice & continuity with her known mobile phone number, next she needs Internet access so she can pick up her emails from web mail, of course she is part of our network server so her email is on our network.
Gprs is supplied from Orange & obviously works on her old Nokia handset.
How do we get this iphone to receive Internet? What do we do?
How we can get Internet using an Orange SIM card?
I'm surely there is a way & a user friendly method to get this to work, please help someone says iTunes, but I cannot see on it her iPhone or Mac computer a settings menu.

One of the main key is the home key which is difficult to operate as all other interface is very soft. There should be home key inside touch screen so that touch operation remains smooth. Camera performance is very low & you get blurry images if you don't take special care which taking pictures. Making & receiving calls is good & quiet easy. Keypad is also more advanced than any other phone. Limitation of data synchronisation which is only through iTunes is quiet problematic for advanced users. However for basic user that should be great as they would not like to mess up their phone accidently. Screen size, battery performance, touchpad operation, music play & headphone are quite good.

Honestly, as a standard phone on one of the offered 18 month contracts the phone is overpriced & a waste of money.
However, buy one & unlock it (which I don't believe any of you iPhone haters have ever heard of as your moaning about stupid little things) & you can use any network SIM card, send & receive MMS, video record etc.
The amount of applications is never ending for this phone & will continue to expand as time goes on.
If I had bought the phone & not unlocked it & had bought it on a contract then I would give this phone a much lower score. As it is it is light years ahead of anything else out at the moment.
If you do own one on a contract & haven't unlocked it, you are definitely not ready for the latest & most hi tech phone on the planet right.

I like the camera on it, some say it's bad, but to be honest I think it is really good quality. The design is good, to, very sleek & pretty for all those hipsters who like the latest fashion. I expect that if you ringing it may get cut off so I am not too sure. I have noticed that there's also no video recording (as far as I saw) & I think that that's a bit, well, silly. No MMS either, very disappointing. I am upset that the apps are very unhelpful too, & the tunes have to be iTunes too. I mean, nobody wants to pay about $2.50 for 3 minutes of music!

I have waited to get this phone saved up to get it, what a letdown, I don't know where to start, it has nothing in phone stuff, just gimmicks, OK the touch screen is cool, going on the web is cool, but I have a lap top to go on the web, why make it such a priority, it's a phone at end of the day. You got to compete with other makes, it needs better camera to start with, this one is awful, MMS messaging, can't send photos of stuff to my mates or girl friend. Had this phone for two months now, & I got to say its way below what I expected, way below. Why can't apple design a phone that works properly, at least put in features you get in every other phone. My seven year old has a Sony Ericsson w200i. Ashamed to say that's got more features. If I am honest the camera on it is as good as my iPhone, it can take videos, & you can have a telephone conversation on it, without it cutting off, or rubbish quality. This is not a PDA phone, full stop. So why leave all the standard features out, why, make it for the people who like to have a gadget. I like gadgets myself, all this is good for, is to put on the table while your having a coffee, for people to look at it, or the youngsters. But these people want the other stuff, video recording MMS messaging, download from limewire etc, not to be stuck with applications that's on it & not being able to get anything else.
So next time apple do it practical as well as good looking, because this is a load of junk I swear, I should know from experience & the most embarrassing thing is my wife got a new Samsung f700, & I am having to use that.

Both my sons have Sony Ericsson's an 850i & an 880i, they are much better, truly, how embarrassing is that. OK, I don't think there is a device out there, to match it on looks & slickness of the interface. But that's no good is it, it's a phone. You can't add applications unless they are Apple. Music has to be iTunes, my lads get there music on their phones off Limewire, now these are just simple little things, can't even do a video.02 coverage is awful, & the phones call quality is even worse. It's like talking down a burrow. Internet is slow, everything is just below par, for the sake of having a really good interface & to add salt in the wound, my wife's just had one of these Viewty's, it simply blows the iPhone away honest. Come on Apple get it together, stop the hype, stop boasting & get everything as good as the interface, & let us use it on any network, & get it free on contract, come on, or as it is now, it's the biggest load of rubbish.

Hi everyone. Just got my apple iphone. The amount of hype about this mobile is only second to the one on euthanasia! Anyways the following are my comments.
The GOOD. The design, feel & display are super. Without doubt revolutionary. User interface is very easy. Have been used to Nokia for years, but adjusted within one day. Touch screen feels great & enough tools even for an above average mobile user.
The NOT SO GOOD. Screen prone to fingerprints & smudges. Slightly heavy & takes three hours to charge. Earphones are useless. But then that can be changed. Can't change battery & third party applications are useless. So no special ringtones. Just have to be pleased with the ones that are there. Which are terrible! A 2MP camera in these times. Wake up apple.
The BAD. Battery Life is pathetic, drops calls & low signal (oops I thought that a mobile must do these basics at least) Needs a charge every day. Even after tricks to save battery Life.
CONCLUSION. Overall a revolution in mobile handsets. Very good for those who are fashion conscious, like to carry music, wi fi, videos & make a few calls, few sms's a day. Also are not too demanding & less finicky (hope this is the right spelling) Bye :-).

Okay, don't get me wrong. The design is absolutely brilliant & stylish & because it's from Apple, it's a must have. But I actually received mine off a website offering it for free, normally I don't go for them. At first it was great, loved it to pieces & when it's next to my friends rubbish Nokia's, it looks just amazing. But it was over exaggerated, the features are so hard to use & there's not even many of them for the price it's sold.
After having it for around 4 months, it played up & went white too many times, took it in for repair. But as its Apple, they refused to fix it as I didn't get it from them, they also didn't even consider any ways there was a chance it would get repaired.
In the end it completely blacked out & that was it, this I found out happened to every single one of my friends who receive them for their XMAS pressies, some even AFTER two weeks of receiving. In the end, I bought an LG Chocolate & at the moment. I am pleased with that one, it's a shame as I thought that it would have been better.

Well the best thing I can say is the design, it's outstanding in that sense, but this really isn't a phone. I used my friends for several hours over a few days, it's poor, it really is. The iPod functions are good, but not a redeeming point, this is meant to be a phone, not a music player. I have the 16GB iPod Touch & a Sony Ericsson W850i, one for music, one for great functions. If you want a great touch screen phone, go for the LG Viewty instead, an outstanding piece of kit. IPhone truly is the biggest let down in the phone industry.

Takes a while to convert your mindset from standard mobile phone usage to iphone. Do not consider iphone as a mobile like your bog standard Nokia.
Firstly, it looks great & is extremely easy to navigate. Text is fantastic with the easy keyboard feature so no need for teenage text abbreviations. As a business user it's strong in that I can easily input data for meetings etc.
The camera is fine for a phone. If you want camera features buy a camera. No mobile can provide a decent camera. A phone is not a camera. Besides, after about two minutes you can't be arsed anyway.
Thankfully there has been a software upgrade & the phone can now cope with multiple texts.
Plus points, O2 have doubled my minutes. 1200 for the same 45 quid I originally set up as 600.
A great piece of mobile Internet gear with a phone on it. Don't look at it as a phone, more like mobile Internet with phone capabilities. I think it's great.

The apple sign who have made Macs, which I did you in college & I hated every moment of the shared Macs. Windows has always been my favourite. Second iPod, WOW! Music player, small elegant, not fun, & touch screen. NDS has it go buy that & play games. Better go get a touch screen PDA & use that it will have more features then this piece of junk made from a few scraps of metal.
Come on you guys, you haven't owned one. Why listen to people & the rumours. Don't say it's good because they said it is. Take it in your hands & play with it & see if it's fun or not. That's all I am going to say. If you want a touch screen phone get Sony Ericsson W960i it's is better than this piece of junk & no I don't work for Sony. Don't understand some of the reviews on this phone & how they can be so negative.
Most of what people moan about is common sense really.
The camera on the iPhone if used properly is very good for a camera phone but it isn't going to replace your digital camera. I had the Samsung G800 for 2 days & that's supposed to have a 5MP camera & it is total rubbish, very poor in badly lit rooms & even in good light struggles. The iPhone photos look good & if you know how to keep your hands steady will take a good picture.
If you use a Mac then as soon as you plug the phone in it sets itself up. It will sync everything like email accounts & contacts without you having to do anything.
People rant about the battery but the easy solution to this problem is to plug it in at night & hey presto in the morning you have a charged phone. The fact that people are going to use as an iPod will mean that the battery is used more than most phones but hey as I said if charge each night the problem goes away.
For everyone that moans about the price, you have to think the 8gig iPod Touch costs £179 to £199, so for the additional software & the fact you can use as a phone makes it quite a good price really. The problem is that people have become used to getting something for nothing each time they come to upgrade their phone. If you don't want to pay for the iPhone just get something else but please don't make bad comments about it.
A great phone perfect for everything you want it to do.

Bought this yesterday & what can I say, Awesome! I have been holding out with my MDA compact for 3 years & fancied a change, thought I'd found everything with an LG Viewty, but it was sadly lacking! Promises much on paper, but when it comes down to using it, it was pretty poor! I was really put off this iphone because the price is pretty insane for a phone & have held off for a few months, but wish I hadn't! This thing is brilliant! Does everything I want from a phone. It makes calls, sends texts in a brilliant conversation way & has a great website like BBC News or similar & I am not joking! How anyone could think this is slow is beyond me! Edge is slightly faster & Wi-Fi is blistering! & this is meant to be the iphone's major downfall!? Are you serious!? In comparison the LG Viewty I just sent back was total rubbish! It took ages to download a page (about 30 seconds to a minute) not half as clear or tactile as the apple & that was on 3G! So, where's the benefit there!? There isn't one!
I think any product that is priced so far above others is always going to come in for heavy criticism, but with this it is totally unjustified! It may be expensive yes, but this is also an iPod too don't forget & this thing just works & works so well. Full stop! No more messing about going through about 5 clicks to get a full stop like I did when texting on the Viewty, or not being able to connect it to my Mac whatsoever (handy), this just plugs in & plays! It's truly sensational.
& before everyone starts pointing out how it doesn't have this, or that. Do things like video calling, 5 mp cameras etc ever get used beyond the first playing with your phone week anyway!? No, I thought not! They're all gimmicks! The viewty camera was meant to be 5MP & one of the best cameras in a phone. Well, it was just as bad as my 3 year old PDA's 1.3MP one! They're all useless, get use to it & buy a camera! Just because its 5MP doesn't mean it takes good photos! It just takes bigger file size rubbish photos!
Anyway, that's my rant over with on the competition! My search for 'my' perfect phone has just come to an end! I don't care if it doesn't have 3G, no super duper camera, no video recording etc. I wanted a well made solid phone that does what I want & does it perfectly. I found it! & it's brilliant!

Right, set the record straight time. I have owned at least 50 mobile phones. I hate Samsung's poor basic feature list (lack of customisable text tones). I like Sony Ericsson's ease of use & excellent battery life. I like Nokia's Smartphone's, OK battery life & ease of use.
The iPhone, I do love it. But it wears thin when the hype wears off. If you like surfing the net, the iPhone really closes the gap between phone & computer, you really can surf the web well on it. Phone features are excellent, all on the screen while you are in a call. IPod features are A1 100%, you will not get better.
Texting is a harder one, when you are sitting doing nothing, no problems. But when you drive (some of you do text when driving), things will get very difficult. If you have big fingers, things will also get hard.
Bluetooth is bad to be honest, it does not always connect up & you can't send files with it, which to be honest should be a feature. MMS, OK. While it does not have MMS, email feature is fine.
3G, so what? Edge is fine, & even if you are not in an edge area, you can still surf the net. Camera, again a poor one. It does need an auto focus of some kind. But again, it's a phone, not a camera. You wouldn't ask your car to fly would you?
Albeit expensive, the iPhone is something completely different. Because apple is not making loads of phones to meet the market, they have made one phone, & I think it's a pretty good one. Something people don't realise is that apple will update this phone every few months, giving it better features. At NO cost to the customer. So in 3 months time, you will have MMS, better camera focus, better Bluetooth. Almost all the gripes people speak of can be fixed with firmware, plus the SDK software will be coming out soon. Wait for it, there will be loads of cool things.
The iPhone has not shone yet.

Don't buy this piece of rubbish only you can listen to music or watch a video. Camera is rubbish 2 MP especially in dark light. Lots of scratches in a week time on the screen & metal area. Battery depletes very quickly. Difficulty in sending messages due small touch panel keys. This phone is not a good option for those who want everything.

It's not the best phone. It's like an iPod! If you want an iPod then buy one! I've used this & I couldn't! The touch screen is great, but when it comes to writing text messages or emails its appalling! I don't have big hands & I can use the small keys of the Sony Ericsson W610i & K550i with a breeze, but this phone was designed for people who have sticks for fingers! It doesn't have flash or auto focus. Yes you may argue that one should buy a proper camera if one wanted one, but it's handy having a camera with you in your phone! Even Moto's VGA cameras are better than this hunk of junk!
Overall it may appeal to you, but personally it's a waste of money (After all you have to pay for the handset, Stay on an 18 month contract & it's on the 2nd most expensive network in the UK! ) JUNK!

I bought this phone at Christmas from eBay, & I love it! It looks so good & is so easy to use, I have still got my HTC touch & the iPhone blows it away. But you have to really play with one before you know if it's for you.
Yes the iPhone lacks a heap load of features, I.e. Custom ringtones which totally pissed me off, because it's something so simple but with a quick search on Google I quickly found a way to make my own. Apps are being made for the iPhone by the shed load & they really make the phone. Most of the features the iPhone lacks will most certainly be released as apps or in updates.
Yes my HTC touch can do a lot more, but I am sure as many people know all these features get boring after a while. My iPhone is a UK phone jailbreaked, unlocked to 1.1.2, as I couldn't stand the 18 month contract from 02 & I have never had a single problem. The iPod on the phone is excellent as you would expect & artwork flows ten times better than on my PC, it lacks 3G but I mean come on you're on a mobile phone what the hell you need faster speeds for? Edge & GPRS works fine, & wireless is almost everywhere now.
It's so good I can't imagine what the iPhone 2 is going to be capable off
Pros
- Great looking.
- Really easy to use.
- Best music player on a phone.
- Everyone who hasn't got one knows they want one.
Cons
- Big.
- Bog standard camera.
- To achieve the full potential of your phone it has to be jailbreaked & messed around with, which is always risky.

I bought the iPhone just before Christmas & I think it's a revolution & worth every bit of the hype. If it had GPS satnav rather than Google maps it would have scored 100% in features. I find browsing the web a dream, & although I have read moans about speed because it's not 3G, I opened up the same web page as my friend the other day with him using a LG Viewty & my phone loaded up the page in less than half the time. When I am connected to a Wi-Fi network the speed could be compared to say a PC on 1 Meg broadband. You never have to be bored again, I hate waiting for anything, but I was waiting in the barbers the other day & I didn't have to get bored as I was able to read the news & watch fonejacker sketches on youtube, it was great!
The iphone has totally improved the service I get from a mobile phone, I was considering a blackberry but I am glad I didn't bother. Email on the move is a breeze, it also has great reminders/note functions. There are so many little functions that are great, & you find more the longer that you play with the phone. The sms system is great & while MMS can't be sent, it's not something that bothers me.
Every day there are more & more website. Most of these are for free including games, business tools & MMS readers etc.
In addition to the phone functions, you also get the best MP3 on the market, nobody can seriously argue with that.
Yes the iphones pricey & I think that's what causes most of the gripes, if this phone was free & the O2 price plans a little more competitive then I reckon apple would take around 80% of the mobile phone market in a matter of months.
In Summary:
Do I love it? YES. Did I look at other phones on the market? YES. Is it worth the money? In my opinion YES. Great revolutionary design always comes at a price.

Some silly reviewers are putting reviews on here, e.g. 'Even though the features are great it's just a waste of time. It's got Internet which is good but you can just do that on a computer.' What the? Your computer can send emails & play MP3's but I still want my phone to do the same!
Anyway, regarding the phone, the most amazing interface ever, don't know anyone that hasn't been impressed with coverflow & the overall interface.
A few problems regarding music playback & browsing the Internet but otherwise it's an awesome Internet device. My 3G Sony K800 running Opera was much slower at rendering pages generally.

My dad bought the iPhone for Christmas & simply loves it.
Previous reviewers have said that the Wi-Fi signal is poor, haven't really found that to be an issue.
I admit the phone is pricey, but the only reason I won't buy it myself is because it's on O2 & I really dislike O2. I think that's probably the only reason I haven't bought one, but it isn't a waste (or waist as one other reviewer said) of money.
Concerning a feasible way of connecting to the Internet outside of the home (referring to Tom 22/12/07) the iPhone connects in 3 ways:
- Wi-Fi
- Edge network
- GPRS
Also the iPhone has (as far as I am concerned) the only usable web-browser on a phone. The main point of the excellent web-browser is the unlimited data provided in the bundle from O2 or AT+T (if you're in the US).
The screen can probably scratch easily, but that's why you buy the Invisible Shield for £9.99. Easy, yes? (Ben 15/12/07)
Overall, I like the iPhone, the keyboard, which does take some getting used to I admit, but I can type on it w/out looking & just as fast as my Nokia N70. I love the screen clarity, browsing, mail on-the-move, music & movie. If it wasn't for O2 (who I dislike immensely), I've never had a good encounter. If Virgin Mobile ever get into the iPhone with unlimited data & a good balance of texts/minutes, I'll buy it. Until then I stay with my N70.

My wife bought me one back from the us in Oct 2007. I had it unlocked, & used it for 2 weeks until I dropped it (very lightly) this gentle knock caused it to say' unable to make or receive calls-contact apple for repair'. I think they may not wish to repair, since it has been un-locked from AT&T! So I now have a £350 door stop. However, it is a good phone, with remarkable battery life, & genius touch screen. However, I have had my Nokia n95 8GB for two weeks, & it puts the I phone to shame-I know its not touch screen, but Nokia have increased the battery life, sorted all software problems, increased the screen size-all old problems in the previous n95.I don't think you can buy a better work phone-pics better than my Sony camera, you can Bluetooth to other phones, send MMS-sadly lacking in the I phone, & the best feature is the speakers are so good on the n95 you can have a hands-free conversation in a noisy car without Bluetooth! Sorry, I am reviewing the Nokia!

Rep: to find videos.

The easiest, fastest & slickest operating system FACT. You have to consider these things when you start moaning about the lack of MMS or a 2 megapixel camera. The only real gripe is the cost but an ipod touch is around £200 & you get that & the phone & email capabilities as well. O2 need to recoup their money they spent to secure the only provider, which have been a good one so far apart from customer service but network is fine. So, I have an ipod Touch instead, as this has all the features of the iphone other than the actual phone / email. I attach the BueEye Bluetooth remote to give the ipod touch an FM radio & control of my phone (Orange M700.)

The Iphone is long talked about but here is all you need to know. I bought two 4GB models for my two daughters just over 3 weeks ago now & ever since have had trouble after trouble. To start with when one of my daughters tried to make a call they found repeatedly frozen keys & touching the screen in just slightly the wrong place would cause it to dial another number. After getting used to the phones, just a week later & my other daughter was replacing a SIM card into the phone when she got an electric shock from doing nothing but replacing a SIM card. I took the phone to my local Apple dealers & just today I have received the phone back with 100% compensation & a note of apology saying that this phone was part of a bunch manufactured incorrectly that they had recalled. Obviously not Darling! I said to the impolite customer support women after being referred to an overseas call centre.
Yeah it may look good but this phone should only be used for people who are wearing safety equipment because electrocution was not warned about anywhere in the manual when applying a SIM card. As for the features its camera was apparently not to bad when you find out you have double click the screen to take a picture. But its usability is next to none as this phone is impractical hard to use dangerous & completely a waste of just over 400 pounds.

Just to clarify a few incorrect points stated here.
- You CAN remove the SIM card (inserting a paperclip in the hole on the top like that Nokia lipstick phone).
- You CAN add as many ringtone as you want, all for free.
- You don't have to be tied to O2.
- You CAN have games, I have over 50 on mine as well as loads of other applications like etch a sketch, flashlight etc.
Just search the web & all the answers are there.
I have had 8 mobile phones in the last 12 months, the best being the iPhone & the worst being the Nokia N95, rather a surprise since I have always preferred Nokia's, it froze constantly, took forever to get a GPS reception & was the same as most other Nokia's as for the menu's & interface.
The iPhone won't be for everyone but I've never had any problems with it, I've had it since the beginning of September (via America) & it's never froze, crashed or ran out of battery, it's got the best touch screen, better than the Prada & windows mobile phones, the best MP3 player in the iPod function, & best of all its compatible with all your iPod extras like docks, speaker systems car kits etc.
Like all phones it has its bad points.
- No 3G but you benefit from better battery life because of it.
- No MMS, not a problem for me but a basic function omitted.
- Only a 2MP camera again not a problem as I use a proper camera to take pictures.
To sum up if you like your iPod & you don't MMS, get an iPhone, but if you're a youngster that sends pictures to your mates all the time then get a normal phone.
No phone is perfect it's just about getting one to suit you.

I purchased this phone & then returned it for a refund after 2 days. The iPhone looks great. When you first pick it up you are blown away. The web browsing is great & the inbuilt iPod is great. However the iPhone isn't a great phone, which overall is what you want from a phone right?
Fair enough if you don't already own an iPod or have Internet connection at home, buying this phone may save you money by combining all three in to one, but after getting over the excitement of touch screen etc, the iPhone becomes quite a disappointment, especially after all the hype.
You can't check your emails on the move because you have to stand still to make sure you touch the right letters! The touch screen really becomes annoying to people who can usually type out a SMS in seconds on a normal phone.
When I informed the Vodafone rep I was planning to leave them for O2 & iPhone, she warned me I'd be disappointed. I laughed of course she was going to say that right? Well she was spot on. I am staying with Vodafone & upgrading to the Samsung V700 a phone that the iPhone just doesn't compare to.
Don't be sucked into buying the iPhone because it looks great & flashy. It lacks everything a phone should be. In a few years when Apple have had a couple of cracks at making new iPhones, I may be back. But for now, all I can say is this phone is a disappointment.

Got this phone on Monday & I am pleased FOR 14 DAY RETURN POLICIES! Looks great on TV but in reality is a complete paper tiger. Poor reception, constant screen freezing, zero 3G (so far) & the fact that it's compatible with nothing beyond an iPod means Apple have, for the first time (as, in all fairness the iPod has been fantastic), sacrificed practicality for gimmicks. Perhaps I've been spoiled by my Nokia E61. Sure, not as pretty, but I can check my outlook emails, have a full browser, full office functionality, an 8Gb memory, Wi Fi, Music, tv, video player &, most importantly, I am compatible with pretty much everything out there, I download music, games, pictures from wherever I am.
& the biggest difference between the e61 & the iPhone, the cost. £1400 for the iPhone (that's provided you don't make many calls or send SMS) versus £350 for the superior alternatives with pretty much unlimited calls & SMS & why the massive difference? Well, where else will they get the cash to pay for all that cool advertising from?
This iPhone is going back today, sorry Apple, as a first effort it would be worth a punt if it was free on a 12 month standard contract at about £20 for 500 minutes a month. After the initial big splash it's old news now too. Ultimately, the end product can't live up to the hype. But what could?

People keep moaning about the lack of some features but fail to mention the fact the other features are top notch, they really are! The touch screen will be for those of you that use it unlike any other attempt at touch screen technology. The web browsing is very usable even on such a small screen & bearable even on the slow edge connection. The ipod is cool & receiving rich emails with attachments is sweet. People keep banging on about the price but when was the last time you got a brand new top of the range Nokia for free they always start at over £200 for the first few months. O2 seems to be a good network for me thought the customer service is bad. I've had no problems with this phone, calls seem fine. Don't listen to some of the reviews they seem to come from Apple hating Nokia lovers who can't think out of there bubble.

This phone is rubbish. People will buy it because it is Apple' & because it looks good. You will end up spending £700 on this phone on contract. A good point is that you can go on youtube, which is great

In the end the iPhone is like some glorious early 60s sports car. Not as practical, reliable, economical, sensible or roomy as a family saloon but oh, the joy. What it does, it does supremely well, that what it does not do seems laughably irrelevant quoted Stephen Fry in the Guardian.
I couldn't put it better myself. Yeah it doesn't do everything, it isn't best at anything, but, its very, very good at being what it is, an Apple product, intuitive, a pleasure to use, powerful enough to meet most needs & elegant.
BUT, the rip off contract monopolies are a no no for me. I'll sit this one out until I can choose my own service provider.

Beautiful piece of kit for an iPod, but a rotten phone. The O2 network has weak coverage & the iPhone has poor reception. Not much use as a phone if it can't connect. The Wi-Fi is excellent, & it makes a nice Wi-Fi compatible iPod.

So to sum the Iphone up, it looks cool but is heavy & is exactly like an iPod which often freezes so even its music capability is let down!

To be honest when I first saw this phone I was amazed, but its big & has many features you will not even use or would rather use on a larger screen on your computer, also the price is a joke, £270, fair enough, but too good to be true because then you have a 18 month contract of £30, £40, or £50, the £50 tariff works the best simply because the other ones have low around of text plus minutes, so paying £1370 for a phone is just stupid, can't believe some people would spend such money on a ibrick that's not as good as its ought to be, if you want entertainment for that much buy a LCD TV & a xbox 360 elite not to mention you would still have enough to buy xbox live subscription (possibly the most entertaining thing in the world. If you want a good phone go for n81 8GB, n95 8GB, w960i, or the n82.
They are far cheaper & better. The design of the phone is nice, nice in the pictures not in reality, it's well too big, & besides for £1370 I would rather buy a car, a computer, or even a LCD TV, not on a ibrick.
£1370 ill leave that for you guys to realise how much that really is.

I won't go into how this phone was 4 years out of date when it was released, what I will look at is the price plans & cost. 02's Exclusive iPhone tariffs give you less than any other tariff of the same value, this is after you've forked out £270 for the phone itself. Do you get any extra functionality for this? No!
So why the increase? Simple, Apple have had the cheek to say they want a percentage of the revenue generated from the monthly contract. Are 02 going to give up any of their profit from the contract? In a highly competitive market like mobile phones they can't. So who is going to foot the bill for Steve jobs unreasonable request? the consumer.
Every time apple & 02 sold one of these phones they were laughing in your faces. Anyone who has bought this phone is silly, that's not me stating that APPLE IS!

This has to be one of the best looking Phones ever. I played with one with the view to purchasing. I was disappointed with what I saw. The display gets dirty too quickly, the on screen keypad is unusable for people with larger fingers, the automatic screen orientation is slow, you can't send MMS, there's no 3G. On the positive side the media player is brilliant, the screen gestures are second to none but take practice to perfect. This is not a mobile phone! It's an iPod with a phone module it doesn't do phoning very well, the signal strength is poor, the call quality is poor. What completely turned me off was that it's only available on one Network in the UK, you can't change the battery & can't even remove the SIM card! It costs £269 cash & you're tied into an 18 month contract for a minimum of £35 p/m. If you like the design so much buy the iPod touch then get a proper phone. Don't BUY INTO THIS CON. Before you get any phone check it out yourself, we've all been using mobiles for a long time now & you don't need to be technical to see a CON!

As an iphone owner all I will say is don't buy one, most of the features are not what they are meant to be, like the Internet browser that doesn't support flash & the calculator without a % symbol. Since buying mine I have felt nothing but regret.
I feel like apple have conned us all with this devise, they made it sound like the answer to all our mobile Internet & music needs, when really it is just a cheap toy with a big price tag that is only good for people without a real need for the Internet.

READ THIS, the iPhone is a multi functional device & not just a phone, this is reflected in the price tag.
So what do you get for your money:
- A Phone.
- Email.
- Fully functional Web-browser (not a cut down version).
- An iPod.
- Visual voicemail.
- Plus a raft of other functions like SMS etc.
This device really comes into its own when used on a Wi Fi network (Edge is pretty slow but not unusable). The iPhone comes with unlimited download (subject to a fair use policy) & used in conjunction with the cloud network (Wi Fi network in coffee bars, pubs, restaurants) it's a huge leap forward against many of its rivals.
The other massive leap forward is Google maps. Here's a case in point.
The other day I was meeting some friends in a restaurant I wasn't sure of, so I used Google maps to locate it for me & it gave me everything I needed to know. When I clicked on the phone number of the diner I was looking for, the iPhone put me straight through!
It's all down to personal taste & it's right for me. If you use a phone to take lots of pictures & video as well as making calls, then this device is probably not for you.
However if you like to stay organised when on the move then have a play with one before you buy, you won't be disappointed.

No, I am not going to get an iPhone. I am not getting one because I already have a phone that's better, it's called the Nokia E70, it's the pinnacle of human achievement, & I love it more than my family.
You've probably never heard of the E70. I am going to do their job for them & tell you about this product & no, I am not being paid to do this. I am just tired of the iPhone fans shooting huge sticky wads & high fiving each other (literally) over their stupid mobile phones.
First of all, the E70 has a full keyboard, not some rubbish stripped down piece of rubbish. Nokia uses a technology that's even more advanced than the iPhone's tap screen, allowing you to actually feel the keys you press as you're pressing them! The technology is called tactile response & it allows you to do things like dial a phone number without staring at your screen like some circus ape. In fact, every other mobile phone ever made has this technology, sometimes called buttons.
The E70's keyboard will not only stomp your dreams. Want to type a backslash? No problem. Ampersand? You bet! On an iPhone, you have to press an additional button that opens up an alternate keypad that will allow you to type numbers & punctuation. So typing something as simple as ellipse's requires you to tap your finger 9 times. Enjoy your rubbish phone now?
When the iPhone was first announced, CEO Steve Jobs claimed that the phone was three devices in one: an iPod, a phone, & an Internet communications device. Ooh, an Internet communications device! AWESOME, NOT! It's not three devices in one any more than my laptop is. Using Jobs loose definition of what constitutes a separate device, technically my laptop can be considered 8 devices in one:
-A clock.
-A calculator.
-An Internet communications device.
-A phone (I can make voice calls with my modem).
-A media storage device.
-A video player.
-A word processor.
-An iPod (see below).
There's no such thing as an iPod. The word iPod is a marketing tool for a hard drive with software that plays mp3s. Yeah, doesn't sound so sleek now, does it? & an Internet communications device is officially the way of saying it has a browser. So actually it's just a phone that plays mp3s & has a browser. SNORE.
The Nokia E70 not only plays mp3s, video, has a full browser & Wi-Fi, IMAP & POP3 email, & Google Maps, but you can even run terminal software to telnet or SSH into remote servers. What that means in non geek is that my phone is invincible. I can literally do anything. I can reboot my web server if I want, & sometimes I do just because I can. All of this power from a phone that's over a year old, & it only costs £180.00. Even the browser is great. The iPhone is not worth £1, 224.00 that you spend altogether. You have to pay £270.00 up front first, then you pay £35.00 a month for 18 months & if you want Internet, you have to add an extra £18.00 a month on top of your £35.00 contract. Worth it?

I have to say that I am strongly against the way this product has been marketed. Apple advertises many great features on one device, but the product lacks some VERY key features. For example 3G connectivity (I know it has Wi-Fi but not everyone uses Wi-Fi) & I am also told it doesn't even support A2DP. This is key if you want to listen to music using wireless headphones. SURELY a music phone by the best MP3 manufacturer in the world should have this feature. Even the £59.99 Nokia 5300 supports the aforementioned feature.
The price is ghastly. If you pay this hefty price tag you are a mug when you consider how much better (& cheaper) the N95 8GB is. This bumped up price tag is merely to cover the cost of the HUGE advertising campaign Apple & O2 have launched.
One more thing, WHY OH WHY put a 2MP camera in a phone in today's modern age of technology. It's over design so Apple can add something to the bottom of the page of its list of (rubbish) features.
COST 18 x £35 = £630 + £269 = £899. Of course the tariff gives you inclusive minutes but when you compare this to 3 who will give you an N95 on £24 per month it just doesn't compare. The iPhone will fall to its doom & I doubt we'll see another.

Already rated, Come on guys, OK. Let's look at this.
Apple, basically, this is an extremely simple handset to use, you won't find easier, it just works.
Camera is OK. It's supposed to be an iPhone, not iCamera. Yes it's basic now, but Apple has something up their sleeves, something that most other phones don't have a chance with, FIRMWARE UPDATES with a difference. Apple have already been talking about adding video & zoom features to the camera, but they don't want to drop it all into the market now, they want to wait a bit, so the iPhone will be a hit in a year's time, rather than a forgotten piece of plastic like most mobiles.
The battery life is as good as Nokia's competition, probably better. Yes you do have to buy music to go on it. Boo hoo, give limewire a rest & pay for things. SMS is easy, again, anyone can use it. It's very clever & I rarely make a mistake. I had the same thoughts about the iPhone, but when you begin to use it, it becomes a very nifty little gadget, something that everyone wants.

You'd be better off with a Mac Notebook if you want cool features. If you want a snazzy phone, go for the W960i or the N95.

I love the phone, but it does come at a price. I can live with the £35, 18 month contract, I don't have a problem with O2, been an O2 customer for 4 years & never had a problem.
I miss not having a video camera on the phone & I also miss a voice recorder. Using it 1 handed is awkward, & the keyboard is clever but not brilliant, but then what 2 inch keyboard is? the battery life is very poor compared to most phones, & I think this is my biggest annoyance. The phone also gets quite warm & starts heating your hand & head! As an iLife user on Mac as well as iCal, iTunes, address book etc, the phone comes into its own, when it syncs your life together.
I would recommend the phone, to the tech savvy, Mac users & those who want the latest gadgetry. However it is certainly not the best phone out there, not the cheapest & in my opinion not the be all & end all of mobile phones as there are too many things missing. Hopefully Apple will sort this with a software update rather than a new handset, there is space for more icons, so who knows. It would be nice if Apple remember that they used to serve the consumer first rather than the almighty dollar & rely on brand loyalty.

As far as new phones go it's far from being a great phone, but remember this is the first of probably many iPhones, think back to the first iPod big chunky green screen it was far from the slim touch screen video iPods that you get now, this time next year apple will have worked out the defects & added all the gadgets that consumers are asking for.
It's a shame the price is so high, if it was a lot cheaper, then it would be a fantastic phone, don't need lots of gadgets to be a great phone just to be in the right price band for what it does has.
Personally I'll wait a while until they iron out a few problems & the price reflects the quality then get one & keep upgrading when the new ones come out if I deem them to be better.

Having just bought this phone for my daughter (no she isn't spoilt, considering most teenagers want a phone & iPod for Christmas, same price) I have to say I am a touch disappointed! You have to have it on contract (I have the £35per month one) you have to sign up to iTunes which means giving your card details. Everything seems to have to go through the iTunes site. No wonder Apple didn't make it a PAYG.
There is no SMS feature, you can't Bluetooth anything to or from the phone. No flash or zoom feature on the camera (although you can zoom in or out once the photo has been taken). No making your own video captures (or receiving them) just to name a few!
As we don't have WI FI the Internet is so very SLOW or nonexistent. But there are a few good points.
Altogether I wished I had gone for the separate phone & iPod for her for Christmas as I can see her getting bored with it within 6 months (with another 12 months remaining on contract! LOL).
As the other person on here said it's a marmite phone. I recommend you go to the shop & have a play around with it first (wished I had).

I got mine today, all I can say, what an excellent handset. Let's look at the good points.
- Every feature on this handset is very easy to use. Anyone can get used to the operating system. The price is not too bad if you have an existing contract, If you upgraded in September, you can get the iPhone & only have to pay for it £269 & change the contract to an iPhone tariff. So you won't need to buy out of your contract.
- You tube is amazing, very clever, you can't see every video on it but the latest ones you can (format issues etc), Google maps also works well.
- SMS is great with the conversation mode, really makes a difference.
- Phone call quality is superb with no issues here.
- iPod is great, audio excellent, videos & cover flow.
The bad points (or points that I don't like).
- No MMS on this phone, no flash on the web browser, ringtones are difficult to install & not free.
Other than this, go buy this phone!

I really wanted to like the iPhone but there are major flaws which are insurmountable, a small screen can only accommodate so much useful information, there is not much point having fancy zooming features, using fingers is messy, you will have to wash your hands & fingers before using it (using plastic gloves as well). A touch sensitive screen is likely to break down quite easily & become unreliable, you will have to be extremely careful with this phone. Also putting so many functions into one machine will render it jack of all trades & master of none. After all, why didn't Canon make their EOS1 camera also a TV, phone, MP3 player, MP4 player, radio, amplifier & speaker, years ago? Also the cost is too much & I can the critics say. I would pay 500 pounds a month to use this lovely device. The novelty will wear off & the unreliability & poor battery design will be critical in the failure of this device. Not to mention that many websites are not compatible with this phone.

The countdown has started, under a month until we all hurry out to grab out new iPHONE in the UK. I have seen one & used one it is an amazing phone which will be extremely popular in the UK, the states are going crazy for it.
It is the phone to have & the phone to add to your Christmas list. Not a phone for your kids I better add, as it is far too expensive, as a parent I don't fancy seeing the iPHONE on my kids Christmas lists, no way. But it will be on mine, thanks Santa x.

I have just received the iphone today & at first glance it looks awesome. Unfortunately there are some flaws with it.
Firstly as a phone it does not perform well. Bluetooth is only available for connection of a headset so you cannot share files between phones. There is no MMS facility. You cannot download any software onto it & there is no copy or paste facility. You cannot have an MP3 file as your ringtone so you must choose one of the bland ringtones that come with the phone.
In my opinion you are better off getting an itouch which is basically the same but without the phone function as it is too fancy to use as an everyday phone. Also unless you have a paperclip handy you will not be able to remove the sim card. The manual actually tells you to do this.

I have seen an I phone in the flesh, Fantastic looking piece of kit, stylish as all Apple products are, however the specification list doesn't add up to much I am afraid. I have an I-mate Jasjam or also known as Orange SPV m3100 now that's a feature packed phone. Apple can only match some of these features.
- Touch screen.
- 2MP excellent quality camera.
- Video recording.
- MMS.
- 3G.
- Video Calling.
- 2nd camera for video calling.
- MP3 player.
- Macro lens.
- Flash.
- Up to 4GB memory.
- Strong Wi-Fi.
- Full Internet browser.
- Sync with computer.
- Push email.
- Outlook.
- Microsoft word.
- Microsoft Excel.
- Bluetooth
- Capability to work as a sat nav (mine has Tom-tom).
- Works with Bluetooth headset as well as GPS receiver.
- Slide out QWERTY keyboard.
- Hundreds of software applications.
- Media player.
- Stylus to stop you getting mucky finger marks over the screen.
Oh & so much more. Come on apple, catch up with the 22nd century.

I bought an iPhone a few weeks back & I have to say it is a great idea but still has not reached its full potential. All the people in the UK who think that it is absolute garbage, it isn't, it just needs to go a few more versions before it gets to the best it can be, with a higher quality camera, video capture & when it's MUCH easier to use. Also the calling plans are expensive & the battery life can be bad when watching films or using the Internet. The iPhone certainly isn't a Nokia N95 killer yet but it is certainly a much better design & the music player is much better. Also, the touch screen is amazing when you get used to it.

Okay, where shall I start? the iPhone is not worth £19.99, let alone the huge price you have to pay at a phone shop! I am saying this because I have moved on in the world, sold my V630i for £47.30 & gotten myself a Nokia E70 which cost me £250.00 on Vodafone's PAYT. First of all, my E70 has a full keyboard, not some stripped down, tap-&-pray smudgy screen. Nokia uses a technology that's even more advanced than the iPhone's tap screen, allowing you to actually feel the keys you press as you're pressing them! The technology is called 'tactile response, ' & it allows you to do things like dial a phone number without staring at your screen like a circus ape. In fact, every other mobile ever made has this technology, sometimes called 'buttons.' On an iPhone, you have to press an additional button that opens up an alternate keypad that will allow you to type numbers & punctuation. That means that typing something as simple as ellipses (.) require you to tap your finger 9 times. Enjoy your phone, losers!
When the iPhone was first announced, it claimed that the phone was three devices in one: an iPod, a phone, & an 'Internet communications device.' Oooh, an Internet communications device!? Awesome! My E70 & even my old V630i are at least six things in one:
- A clock
- A calculator
- An 'Internet communications device'
- A phone
- A video player
- An 'iPod'*
*There's no such thing as an iPod. The word 'iPod' is a marketing name that Apple made up for a hard drive with software that plays mp3s & MPEG4s. & an 'Internet communications device' is a fancy word for saying 'My phone has an Internet browser.' My V630i's browser was great but on the E70, it's better! The iPod doesn't even have video calling, 3G, MMS or even video capture. To put it nicely, it's behind in its time. But on the bright side, it does have an iPod.

Apple what went wrong here. I thought this will be the greatest phone of all the time but I was wrong. I am so sorry that apple I phone had all the missing features & mistakes I have shown in this list below.
- Minimal battery life (just like the video I pod I brought few days ago)
- Battery SIM Card can not be taken out (they asks for a paper clip to take out the sim LOL)
- You have to pay to replace the battery
- No Voice Dialing
- No voice recording
- No memory card slot
- No MMS service
- On screen keyboard a bit hard to use
- No A2DP Bluetooth
- Bluetooth available only for the head set
- No GPS (I don't mind anyway)
- Can not install much software to the phone
- Apple got to be shame of there self's to say this is a smart phone although we got to pay the apple for every single application
- No MP3 files as ring tones, you can't set your ring tones as you want
- Not so easy to set up
- Random malfunctions
- freezes sometimes
- No copy & paste feature
- No 3G (I don't mind but some do)
- Safari web browser (without java support)
I wish apple had taken another year or two to plan all there options for the I phone model. Compared to today's phones this phone is just another big mistake, everyone buys it its true but they end up making a huge mistake & they only buy it just because they haven't used any I phones before because this is the first phone by apple, although they are just buying to discover more stuff from a mobile phone but they end up with less functions. Next time when you release the new I phone try to add those missing features & don't accept money for every available supported software to this phone. Give people some respect & try releasing some free software's to your users :-) only then this phone will become the greatest of all. But like this I don't think so.
The only thing I like in this phone is its design nothing else I give 100 % for the design but the features? ! I don't want to talk about it.
Anyway I will wait for the next I phone version to be released I hope to see it with more than this.

The iPhone's design is GREAT! Overall I'd say these are the positive things:
- Touchscreen.
- iPod in phone, rather more ORGANISED than the ones in the iPod.
- Wireless Internet connection.
Plus the negative things:
- Poor battery life, just played V for Vendetta & went through the Internet for review of that movie & just turned off for no reason. I thought it was broken!
- Poor camera, I mean look N95 has a 5MP camera! & in addition to this you cannot take a video!
- Wireless Internet is weak, unlike my PSP, this means I can't piggyback on my neighbour's wireless connection ha ha!
- No MMS. Shocked + disappointed.
Just returning this phone for a Nokia N95. Please. Think twice before getting this phone.

Yeh it's got a camera, like every other phone these days & it's only a 2MP. Its also has an MP3 player, like every other phone these days. No 3G hmm that's a turn off. Fast Internet access, well that is depending on where you are, if you are out in the country then it's useless but if you are in the city then its OK! For starters, the 4GB internal memory is nice, but you can buy 4GB memory cards for all the other phones out there. The 2MP camera is just standard. The Wi-Fi is a nice feature but once again, this isn't a unique feature. It's just the same as the iPod really, people buy it for the fashion. Crazy world eh.

Reviewer: Rubin - US

Well this phone IS a revolution but it's not the answer. I mean I think everybody is pretty much looking for the same thing. A good sized, easy to use phone that can transform into a movie viewer, an MP3 player, a well made camera, a mini Internet viewer, an organizer, & that can send & receive messages/ e-mail with easy typing. It sounds like a lot to ask for BUT the iphone is very close to achieving this 'ideal' device it just needs to step up the camera (obviously) step up the connection speed (maybe try other networks besides Cingular? ) & shrink down the size (it's huge).
BTW if you see a pic of someone taking the iphone apart, you see why it's not 3G, doesn't have a nice camera, & doesn't have a removable battery. THERES NO ROOM! That technology requires larger chips & the camera requires more room & the battery is huge. SOON but not yet.

Hmmm. It's got a bigger surface area then my Sony Ericsson P990I even if it is half the thickness, you'll notice the large wedge. It has NO removable battery? EVERY phone has a removable battery, this is going to be the IPhones Achilles heel. The touch screen seems fantastic though & a great step forward in thinking as you get the best of both worlds, just needs feedback now.
NONE of its features though are not available on any other phone, 2MP cam with no flash is a joke, the W660I also has built in 8GB memory, you'll never be able to use Tom-Tom on it like I do with my P990I, it's 2.5G? With all the Google maps features that are also a joke, it'll cost you a fortune to use the feature & be very slow to boot.
My advice, wait for the next Iphone model, it MUST be smaller & more open to apps to succeed as a smart phone & have a Cam with flash & replaceable battery & 3G. The Koreans are already starting to role out 4G & developing 5G services & speed.

It confuses me that people call this phone 'revolutionary, ' are most US phones featureless bricks in the US? It looks like an interesting item, sure, the interface is something I am quite interested in trying, but the features don't really excite me. The camera is seriously inadequate with the N95 on the market, so it's not the best camera phone. It lacks a keyboard, so it's not going to capture the business market like the Nokia E90 or the various other keyboard phones.
Realistically though, I guess it's a pretty good phone for the price - $499 US isn't bad, the phone looks nice, & hopefully it will sounds good as well.
I do wonder at the hype though. Apple owns the MP3 market by virtue of having been the first there, & delivering a cool product. The phone market, on the other hand, is very competitive, & has a number of very serious players in it these days whose phones can in some cases out-feature the iPhone.
Additionally, this is a music player on top of a phone - will anyone who buys one of these bother buying another iPod? I wonder if this will cut into their sales.
Anyway, enough blather - this is a nicely designed phone for non-business users at a medium price point. It will probably do well, but I wonder if it will do as well as Apple claims.

The fact is that the phone has a 2MP camera, which is very poor. It has an MP3 player. WOW. So does every other phone, but I hear you saying it has 4GB & 8GB memory. All Sony & Nokia phones with MP3 players have expandable memory.
- If you want an MP3 player just buy an apple ipod.
- If you want touchscreen then get a PDA.
- If you want a camera get an N95. What a phone.
The phone shop I work in have sold out pf N95's, & so has all the other shops. We have people exchanging their LG Prada's, Sony Ericssons & Samsungs which they bought few days ago & exchanging them for the N95.

This is an amazing phone my cuz from America brought hers over to show me & its just amazing with a full ipod a fantastic camera & the Internet what more could you want although I have a decent phone a Mac & a 20GB ipod I don't no if I should bother but for someone who loves apple products good design & a 10/10 mobile then splash out your cash & get one only one fault is the touch screen often looks up & you have to reset it I don't no if that happened to anyone else or if she just got a bad batch but we'll see.

Apple has come with a more conventional design which I believe & hope will exceed its rock bottoming reputation. However the relevance of having a multi functional device such as the apple I-phone is more convenient for the consumer. The whole concept of having a quality mobile & both media device is a bit more intricate at its stage but what appeals to me the most is how it is going to revolutionise its categorical industry. Regarding its price & durability there might be a question mark in anticipation to its fashionable demand. Despite all these shortcomings it's a nice beautiful piece of technology & I think it's worth the price. I hope its going to strike an impressionably good appearance when it comes out for sale
Props up for apple! What a close call.

If apple would 'invent' an iToilet paper, that would be just another toilet paper but with ultra smooth scrolling capability, & firm feeling, you would all drop your pants, just because it is from apple, its wrong.

Well Apple seems to have another hit on their hands & no doubt people will buy it just for being another flashy device. But that's goes without saying as it's a British design : )
I am not into the whole buy into an Apple universe. I would prefer to use the richer & much better designed Microsoft Mobile OS with the integration into Office & Vista.
Will be quite interesting to see what happens when people want to change their batteries or add more memory. It looks like that will be nay impossible like with the iPod.
Secondly Orange & T - Mobile will want to put some of their software on the device. Nice thought but that's not going to happen with the iPhone, just like you can't extend the iPod functionality.
Finally my last beef is that is Apple being a Software developer or a hardware manufacturer? The term jack of all trades & master of none springs to mind!
But as I said great looking Mobile, very suave & neat but reality says it could be prone to some serious issues that mobile users take for granted on their existing handsets : )

Good one, 3G video calling isn't a must even now, great strategic thinking apple, the cost benefit ratio & else isn't that good for now, maybe next release might include 3G video call option.
Now could you send me one! :)

Agree with the others. Why only a 2 Megapixel camera? Why quadband & not 3G?

The phone looks great & I like the fact that everything is touchscreen but I think apple need to up the features a little bit. They are a couple of years behind Nokia who have been combining cameras phones & MP3 players for quite a while now. The camera is only 2MP & can hold up to 8GB of memory just like the N95 which will be 2 years old by the time this is even launched! So I wouldn't be too quick to say apple own the mobile network just yet as this is only their first phone & already miles behind Nokia & other major manufacturers. Don't forget as well all the problems that were had with the ipod when it came out let's hope this doesn't happen here, because it is a stunning phone with some great features but definitely not the best on the market.

Ipods are great so why should the phone b any different. The touch screen looks wicked & the design is awesome. No other phone is like it. The only problem I would have is that it is really fingerprint prone but who cares. It's the beginning of a new generation. Wt in this world is perfect? the iPod phone is the closest thing!

The iphone has been rumored about in the past & finally the iphone has come. The iphone was announced early 2007 by the founder of apple technology & has caused a stir in the mobile phone industry. The phone has absolutely no buttons & is functioned using touch screens, that feature is a bit like the hp palm series in which you use a stylus, however the palm series has a keyboard. The iphone is a combination of the ipod & a phone thrown in with many other functions. The unique & sleek design has impressed most around as it is so compact.
The phone will be released in mid 2007 in America & varying times in other countries. In Australia users will have to wait to 2008. The iphone is highly anticipated & is predicted to be the next big thing in technology.
I am currently using the N73 from Nokia which was a fair sum, & I am, along with many more am looking forward to the iphone.
